Experience
From 2011 to 2013 I worked as a part-time carer, co-operating closely with nurses
and other health workers in Afghanistan. I learnt about different things regarding
medical equipments and how to deal with them delicately. I have acquired the
knowledge in giving injections to patients. I also became familiar with common
geriatric illnesses and how they are managed. As a daughter of a doctor I would often
attend my dad’s clinic with him and observe the way he treated his patients. I also
gained some work experience organising the clinic and handling the medication.
Communication and language skills
I can communicate well – and am comfortable - in four languages: English, Pashto,
Farsi/Dari and Urdu. I believe that these skills are invaluable when treating patients
from different backgrounds, especially in London where the population is so diverse. I
will be very comfortably able to reach the patients quickly to understand their
problems. I have grown up in two very different cultures, which has given me a strong
awareness of the issues affecting migrants in London. Therefore it would be easier for
me to handle patients who are either native or migrants.
