INTRODUCTION
Employee development can be defined as a process in which employees with the support
of their employers undergoes various training programs in order to increases their skills and
knowledge. This study will show the importance of interpersonal and transferable skills such as
technical, time management, problem solving and communication skills (Pfau-Effinger, 2017). A
nurse has various strengths and weaknesses. In order to remove those weaknesses it makes
personal development plan which helps them to identify the areas in which it requires improving.
TASK 1
Reflection
There are various skills which is important for developing a career in nursing and for an
individual to have in their professional life. It includes those skills which can be transferred from
one job to an another. There are various skills which are my strengths and can help me out in my
career and in the future (Morrison, 2016). Communication skills, team working, problem solving
skills, computer literate with having proper knowledge of word, excel and internet and time
management are skills that are included in transferable skills. Interpersonal skills also can help
me in the future. I have some strengths and weaknesses as I have some interpersonal skills and
transferable skills.
Team working skills means to have the ability to work in a group and with any type of
people. As a nurse I have team working skills and I can work in a group with other nursing staff.
These skills can help me in my career. I can easily achieve my goals it can also reduce the errors
and mistakes in the work. With the help of this strength I can develop and improve my
relationship with doctors, nursing staff and patients as well which is very important for being in a
working environment for long run. It creates a strong and friendly environment which can lead
productivity and efficiency of the hospital. With this skill I can help and support doctors as I can
manage a team for cares in different shifts. I can effectively manage personal affairs like making
doctor's appointments, social events and family gathering.
Personal motivation is other main important skill. I am lack in this skill. It is my
weakness that I do not have the ability to motivate others as I can not motivate myself first. For
doing any type of work with ease it is essential to have personal and self motivation skill. It can
create various problems in my nursing career. There are several benefits and by developing this

skill I can achieve my goals and get success in my professional as well as in personal life. Self
motivation is the main key skill by which I can improve and develop myself and can also achieve
whatever I want to achieve.
Communication skills also play a vital role in an individual life. Communication skills
includes active listening, confidence, empathy, friendliness etc. I have an effective
communication skills. It is my strength which makes me able at hospitals to listen each and every
details of patients and doctors carefully. It shows my confidence level to listener. It shows them
that I have the vast knowledge about particular topic which can build trust. This skill makes me
able to pass all the necessary informations to other people. With the help of this skill I can
improve my relationship with doctors, patients and my colleagues. By understanding their views
and opinion I can help them out in solving problems. The ability to listen makes me able at
hospitals and at my workplace to being calm in all type of situations. It also reduces the chances
of conflicts. Communication skill also help me out in decision making process as it removes
misunderstanding and creates clarity of thoughts and expression. So there is an importance to
have this skill.
Time management skills also play a vital role in the field of nursing. I am good in
managing time and provide treatment to patients on the time. Without having this skill patients
have to suffer from many problems if nurses and doctors do not provide them treatment on the
time. With the help of this skill I can review patients' care plan, manage doctors appointments &
other appointments like district nurse. As I have worked as a child carer in a royal family. For
that I needed to prepare their meals and monitor their daily nutritional intake on time, This time
management skills made me able to get success and provide better services to children. With the
help of this skill I made children able to keep healthy by organizing outdoor activities for them.
Interpersonal skills also play a significant role in an individual life. This includes those
skills which an individual requires every day while interacting with other person. There are some
skill which I posses and that is my strengths. Patience, active listening and flexibility are some
skills which can help me in my future and career. On the other hand I lack in some skill and I
need to improve that skills such as: dependability and influencing skills.
I have flexibility skill which make me able to adapt new things, new situations and
changes without getting effected. With the help of this skill I can make myself able to work in
any type of situation at any time. I can work even under pressure without hurting myself and
