INTRODUCTION
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individual are seen suffering from worst diet related
issues. These are groups present within Australia and poor nutrition is the issue faced by these
people and this contributes to malnutrition, overweight, obesity, cardiovascular disease, tooth
decay and diabetes. The following report discusses about various risk factors for these people
and how they are affecting livelihood of these people.

The chosen topic for this research is diet of aboriginal and Torres people of Australia.
Aboriginal individuals of Australia are indigenous people of Austalian mainland. According to
the statistics, it is concluded that Australians and Torres people are much less healthy than other
Australians. There is complex cause for poor dietary intake within Torres and Aboriginal
individuals. It is concluded that systematic review for managing dietary intake of these people is
limited to the effectiveness of nutrition education program (Treloar. and et.al., 2016). Poor
nutrition is known as a major factor which contributes to obesity and overweight among
individuals. These also cause high blood pressure, cholesterol problem, less vegetable and fruit
intake, etc.
There are several factors that affect poor diet and nutrition. There are several economic, socio-
economic and environmental factors which leads to poor diet and nutrition. It is analysed that 6%
of individuals within aboriginal and Torres communities have the functioning of hardware which
requires preparation, storage and cooking of food. There are few contributions for these people in
order to enhance their lives. Some of these are mentioned below -
Water is provided to them for drinking, washing, safe sewage, etc.
Proper disposal of garbage is also provided
Nutritional programs are given in order to make them understand the need of balanced
diet.
It is analysed from some statistics that two third Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander live in
remote areas. These face minimised variety and quality of nutrition food. There are few factors
which contribute to high cost of foods in rural and remote areas. These include increased freight
costs, higher store overheads, greater wastage of food stock store management practices and the
