LITERATURE REVIEW
What is the concept and importance of digitalization within the organisation?
As per the view of Lindqvist and Pettersson (2019), digitalisation plays a very important
role in achieving overall success and profitability in an organisation. Digitalisation can be
defined as process of transforming data into digital information which results in improving the
operations of the business for achieving enhanced productivity a d growth in the business
market. The main aim of adopting digitalisation in an organization is to create positive value by
the effective use of digital technology and increasing the productivity of each and every
employee of the business. Digitalisation helps organisations to store huge amount of information
and access that data quickly whenever the information is required. The collected data can be
utilised in developing the products, improving internal communication and supply chain methods
for better coordination and cooperation among team members. It is very important for every
organisation to implement digitalisation in their business which is defined below:
Improves performance and productivity – Digitalisation plays an essential role in
improving the productivity of employees and the performance of the organisation (Hoe,
2019). This helps Marks and Spencer in improving the working operations which makes
the work of employees easy and reliable for increased performance.
Increases profitability – The process of digitalisation helps Marks and Spencer in
gaining more profitability in the competitive market as it helps in improving the working
capability of the employees. When employees works dedicatedly, they achieve more
customers and this helps in improving the sales of the company products and services in

which helps in achieving high growth and profitability as compared to new competitive
companies. It also provides the direction to the company which helps in gaining competitive
advantage over other competitive companies which also results in bringing new changes
effectively. There are different types of digital strategies that helps in improving productivity and
performance of the company and which are defined below:
Social media platforms – Now a days most of the customers are using social media for
ordering new products or for searching purpose about a newly launched product (Shah
and Wu, 2019). With the use of technology Marks and Spencer can build more strategical
online presence that helps in gaining more customers and market share. With the use of

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research methodology is defined as a process of identifying, analysing and interpreting
the data about the chosen research topic. This is the third chapter of the whole research and this
chapter helps the researcher in conducting research according the requirement and selected topic
(Hughes and Barlo, 2021). In simple words, research can be defined as the designing of the study
in order to address the issue related to the given topic in a scientific and effective manner.
Research methodology helps the researcher in providing a detailed plan about how to make the
process of carrying out the research in an effective, smooth and manageable way.
Research design
Research philosophy – The philosophy of the research is mainly divided into two parts and it is
defined as positivism and interpretivism. Positivism philosophy helps in collecting and
evaluating objective information from the society whereas interpretivism philosophy helps in
gathering and analysing subjective information from the community. In the present ongoing
investigation, the investigator has selected positivism philosophy as it helps in gathering valuable
and reliable information (Mahuika and Mahuika, 2020). The main idea behind selecting this type
of philosophy is that it helps the researcher in carrying out the process of research in an effective
manner so that better understanding about the chosen topic can be gained.
Research approach – The approach related to research is can be divided into two types that is
primarily defined as deductive and inductive approach. Deductive approach can be defined as a
collection of the existing theories and models in order to reach the conclusion in an effective
manner. Whereas inductive approach is defined as the process of creating new theories by the
gathered data and not on existing theories (Rajasinghe, 2020). In the present research, the
researcher has selected deductive approach which helps in gathering information easily. The
main benefit of selecting this type of approach is that it is known to be a reliable method for
testing the theories such as hypothesis for providing convenience to the investigator.
Research strategy – Research strategy can be defined as a process of conducting the research in
a more reliable and effective manner (Rosskam, 2018). There are different types of elements that
helps the researcher in carrying out the research such as surveys, focused group, systematic
literature review, experimental research and research action. In the current research, the

researcher has selection survey method which mainly helps in gathering data from large
databases in an effective way. The main idea behind selecting this type of method is that it helps
the researcher in gathering qualitative data in a more detailed manner. This is also regarded as a
cost effective method that helps in collecting valuable information in less time period.
Research choice – The research choice is mainly divided in two types that is known as
qualitative and quantitative method. In the current investigation, the investigator has selected
quantitative approach for conducting the research in a more effective manner (Bhar, 2019). The
main reason behind selecting this type of approach is that it helps the researcher gathering and
analysing numerical information in a easy and reliable manner. This is also considered as a cost
effective method because quantitative information is quite easy to understand and calculate.
Another benefit of carrying out this research by using quantitative data which helps the
researcher in gathering more detailed information about the selected topic and industry.
Time horizon – Time horizon section of the research can be divided into two parts which are
mainly defined as cross-sectional and longitudinal method. In the present conducted research, the
researcher has chosen cross-sectional method because it helps in completing the research work in
a given time period. The main reason behind selecting this types of method is that it helps the
researcher in carrying out the research in a more reliable and valuable manner as the work is
done on time and without any delays (Coombes and Ryder, 2019). This approach is also
considered as the most cost effective approach and is also less time consuming which saves the
time of the researcher in conducting the research on the chosen topic.
Sampling – Sampling can be divided into two parts that is defined as probability and non-
probability methods. In the present investigation, the investigator has selected probability
method for conducting the research in an effective and efficient manner (Sileyew, 2019). The
reason behind choosing this method is that it helps the researcher in choosing the respondents in
a equal and fair way. The researcher has selected 30 respondents from the large sampling so that
accurate and reliable information can be gained.
Data collection and analysis –
Data collection - Data collection method consists of mainly tow types that is defined as primary
and secondary methods (Gaudet, 2018). In the current investigation, the investigator has selected
both the methods so that more reliable and valuable information about the conducted research.
Data analysis - The data analysis approach can be divided into types that is regarded as
frequency distribution and thematic method for conducting the research in an effective manner.

In the present research, the researcher has selected frequency distribution method as it is more
effective method for calculating the numerical values (Staron, 2020). It is most cost effective
method that helps in carrying out the information related to the research in a more valuable and
reliable way.
Ethical consideration – While carrying out the research, ethics plays the most important role as
it helps in making the current study more authentic, reliable and relevant information (Brown
and Tidy, 2019). Ethical principles helps the researcher in gaining more importance in doing
great work by not harming any one intentions.
Validity – Validity can be defined as the process of selecting method that helps the researcher in
carrying out accurate and correct information about the chosen topic. The researcher has chosen
survey and questionnaire method for carrying out the research which is more efficient and
effective in gaining quality and valuable information about the selected research topic (De
Hertogh, 2018).
Reliability – Reliability can be defined as process of collecting information from the constant
type of method as it helps in providing more reliable and correct information about he chosen
topic (Tayebi Abolhasani, 2019). The researcher has chosen quantitative method that are when
