Use the following outline as a guide and checklist for the writing of your Personal
Philosophy of Early Childhood Education.
Your Philosophy of Early Childhood Education must address these questions:
1. What do you believe is the purpose of early childhood education and why/how
have you come to this belief?
The purpose of early of early childhood is to foster social, emotional and physical
development of young kids which normally have a direct impact on their overall development
and the adult they will grow to become. This makes it necessary to understand the need to
facilitate children’s learning so to promote their future welfare. Some studies have suggested
that early years learning paly a very vital role in a child’s brain development.
I believe this because babies start learning about the world around them at a very tender
age, the bonds that are formed between them and their parents and their first learning
experiences greatly affect their future cognitive, social and physical development.
2. How do young children learn and develop?
Young children are very fragile and curious whenever they come across what
seems unusual to them. Child development is a process all children pass through; the
children learn various skills such as skipping, walking, tying shoes and sitting. They
also learn through mastering these skills so that they can get used to them. They also
learn through other skills known as developmental milestones where they are taught
how to solve problems. All these kind of practices nurtures their development and
who they become later in life. Most children also learn from seeing what others do.
