INTRODUCTION
Disability is one of the major issue in the society, this impact person's mental stability
and their health as well. Disable person are important part of the culture, they can not be left
alone because of their physical appearance. Person being disabled face certain challenges in
every area including home, health and social care, workplace and many other place (Oliver,
2018). It is very clear that government and private agency have taken certain steps to manage
this issue, for example; government have introduced certain new policy and legal framework.
This report will discuss legal, policy framework and theory related to concept of disability.
MAIN BODY
Disability:
Disability is common but important term in the society, this simply means those persons
or group of individual that are physically or mentally disable and can not perform certain task.
Disability is not a societal issue, this is related to person who either born disable or person who
face event become disable. Society sees this as a major issue because system of society are
crafted according to major of people. For example; if workplace policy and structure focus on
normal individual then disable person might face challenges surviving in. however, workplace
need to change and add new policy and structure that support disable person as well. Physically
disable person face certain challenges in the society, they even face discrimination which impact
their mental and physical health (Retief and Letšosa, 2018). Disability is not new concept in the
society, certain area of observation is considered when focusing on disability, it is very clear that
understanding disability become important, discrimination due to this topic need to be addressed
in the society.
Theory of disability:
Disability studies one of the broad area which cover academic discipline and examine
nature and consequences of disability, theory of disability focus on careful understanding of the
topic. There are certain key area or key theory which cover the concept of disability, these are:
Ableism: This is one of the most important theory of disability focus on discrimination that
occur to disability, society make things difficult for disable person because of their physical and
mental appearance. This become important to focus on Ableism that cover important area of
disability, society and people of society try to compare their physical appearance with disable
person creating a discrimination in the society (Shakespeare, 2017). It becomes important to

understand Ableism and cover key area, societal implication on disability and viewpoint of non
disable person does matter in this theory of disability.
Disablism: This is important theory of disability that focus on discriminatory, oppressive and
abusive behaviour of people for disable person, this is simply term that drive prejudice and
stereotyping or institutional discrimination. Disablism theory state that person face
discrimination due to their physical appearance which means people carry abusive behaviour
with disable person which they need to change to maintain fairness in the society. Disability is
not an major issue until and unless people started pursuing abusive behaviour for disable person.
However, Ableism is different theory of disability as compared to Disablism where Ableism
focus on discrimination against disable person.
Legislative framework:
Disability is cover in the regulation of every country, it is very clear that almost all nation
took and taking major steps to manage disability in the society (Stiker, 2019). Many nations have
their own methods and procedure to manage discrimination due to disability and many strategic
planning to bring betterment to group of disable person. There are certain legislative frameworks
that cover disability, these are:
The Equality Act 2010: This is one of the most important legislative framework that cover
every important area related to disability, this act cover discrimination that faced by disability
person and legal right they reserved to secure their physical appearance. This act focus on
betterment of society by understand and eliminating discrimination that arrive due to physical
appearance. The Equality Act state that every individual demand and secure right, disable person
secure same right as non disabler person. There are many other nations that focus on providing
extra right to disable person, they want disable person to explore area of development. This act
was introduce by government to eliminate discrimination due to disability, however, new things
are add on in this act to make it more reliable and effective.
The Disability Discrimination Act 2010: This is part of The Equality Act but focus more on
securing right of every disable person, this act focus on reinforcing legal right to disable person
and allowing them to feel free in the country. Disable person have certain right which they can
use to ensure their safety in care home, house, workplace, medical service and any other place
where possibility of discrimination is high (Titchkosky, 2020). This act focus on betterment of
disability person, government demand people to have legal right secured under this act.

Disability rights: This is one of the most important policy of the UK government that cover
right of disable person in different area for example right which are secured in the workplace or
right that cover disable person in medical area. Right are secured by the disable person, each
individual are consider by the government and certain policy cover their betterment allowing
disable person to feel safe in the workplace. Disability right are policy govern by the government
to ensure each individual stay satisfied in society.
CONCLUSION
This report has discussed disability and its impact on person and society, this is wide
concept that cover every important area which simply means disability needs to be managed.
Later this report has discussed theory of disability which include ableism and disablism, ableism
means disability and related discrimination which is faced by disable person whereas disblism
means society or person perform those activities which create discrimination in the society. At
last this report discussed legislative framework including The Equality Act 2010 and The
Discrimination Disability both frameworks focus on betterment of the society by cover disability
right and legal securing of right.
