ABSTRACT
Organisation learning introduces as an effective process that involves applying
knowledge or skills for a motive and learning from the outcome. Sustainability occurs after an
enterprise has made significant modifications to enhance performance. Main purpose of
conducting this dissertation is to find out importance of organizational learning and sustainability
in construction industry. For doing research over such topic, different number of activities have
been done by researcher. Firstly, aims and objectives have been created with the support of
research topic. Secondly, literature review have been completed by using different number of
books, articles, publication research etc. Research methodology is another section which have
been done with the use of qualitative and quantitative research methods, data collection sources
i.e. primary and secondary etc. Thus, all these are useful methods which helped researcher by
providing them accurate and reliable information about the significance of organisation learning
and sustainability within construction industry. Data analysis and interpretation is another
activity which have been done with the use questionnaire and thematic analysis. Conclusion and
recommendation is last activity of dissertation and in this section results or outputs is gained by
researcher by achieving each objective of study.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.0 Introduction
Organisational learning refers to a process of improving performance of business. In
context with construction management, as the projects that undertaken by companies dealing in
same sector, have strong social and environmental impact. So, there is high requirement of
sustainable change within construction industry and ability of organisation for coping with same,
that can only be possible via organisational learning (Wilson, 2015). With this assistance, for
maintaining the long-term sustainable competitive advantage, it is essential for construction
industries to implement strategy, based on organisation learning for improving performance. It
includes creating, transferring and retaining knowledge to provide benefit to people, for
enhancing their performance. The main objective of present dissertation is to understand how
organisational learning help people that are working on an existing construction project, in
completing future projects more successfully. This would include a chain of events, under which
a project team can get a mechanism to embed their knowledge into company, that aid future team
to work on new project in sustainable manner. To make investigation on chosen topic, various
theoretical perspectives under literature part on current state of knowledge is being summarised.
It also outlines some main methodologies that are adopted by researchers for preliminary
findings about organisational learning and rest of the section, by developing a systematic
framework for sustainable project delivery.
1.1 Rationale
One of the main reason behind undertaking research activities is to evaluate the
importance of organisation learning and sustainability within the organisation for executing
business in construction company. By this investigator will collect applicable information for
investigation subject with the motive of increasing their skills and knowledge. This will aid
researcher in taking right judgement at the end of the study and also help them in accomplishing
reliable results (Amui and et. al., 2017). Along with this, it is also beneficial for business
organisation to attain growth and development in the market and established its agonistic brand
representation in construction industry. By undertaking this research, investigator will be achieve
better outcomes for future study. Along with this, it is crucial for researcher to finding the better

and valuable outcomes that assist in implementing the investigation tasks in systematic manner
and also may accomplishing positive end outcomes within the research. In this regards, the major
responsibility of researcher is to measure or evaluate the reason behind set research topic which
is linked with the various factors present within the business organisation. Major aim behind
evaluating this investigation is to determine the actual importance of organisational learning as
well as sustainability while performing business activities within the construction industry.
Along with this, it also aid in finding the actual results at the end of the investigation which help
in proper winding up of project with desired outcomes.
Scope of research
In this regards, the scope of this research is wider because it provide vast information
about organizational learning and sustainability and its significance for company operate in
construction industry. As concept of organizational learning is related to receiving and increasing
amount of attention in constriction management as it directly improve overall performance of
company. In this regards, construction industry is refers to the high economic significance and
also has strong environmental and social impacts. As construction industry consider as a very
important for UK national economy. For surviving in market place organisational learning is
crucial as it help them in attaining sustainability within the industry. This research focus on
exploring the link between organisational learning and sustainability within the construction
industry. Mainly, UK national economy is believed to have low productivity and poor
performance. In this, organisational learning is implement by instruction industry with the aim of
improving organizational performance. This is the reason that research undertake this research as
it help in providing opportunities company in executing construction activities and also provide
opportunities in attaining sustainability at market place.
1.2 Research Aim
Entire research is based on aim i.e., to gain proper knowledge about research topic as
well as find solution of it. Mainly, it is considering as a major part of dissertation because it
provides a clear path and outline in which research activities can be undertaken. In this regards,
research aim is referring to the predetermined statement whose motive is to address issue that
investigators has to develop as well as implement clear and concise statement. This section
provide support to undertake research in right direction in order to reach out at potential and
reliable outcomes (Ford and Despeisse, 2016). Furthermore, it is also a significant section of

whole research as it provides a clear aim in which investigation will be able to carry out a valid
decision. Therefore, it is crucial for investigator to set a clear and appropriate statement of
research aim because it improve the chances of completing entire project in systematic and
accurate way. For better understanding the main aim of this research is “To develop
understanding and identify importance of organisational learning and sustainability for the
organisations executing business under construction industry.”
1.3 Research objectives
To determine the challenges faced by construction industry and their possible solutions.
This section of research plays crucial role in investigation of project as it helps
investigator to determine the major issues in which research will be undertaken. Along with this,
it also put impact on researcher and organisation both at wide level. Although, investigator is
answerable for clear objectives that provide support in finding better outcomes or solution. With
the assistance of this, positive and authentic information can easily be attained. Mainly, this
section is highly depending on the research aim through which investigator may amend the
possibilities of taking right decision that directly support in drawing a valid result (Chien, 2014).
In this context, objectives should be clear and concise so that investigator can easily gather
accurate information to draw a valid conclusion. It includes various variables that summarizing
the whole study and its activities as well. With the assistance of this, researcher identify the
statement and develop hypothesis to take right and effectual conclusion in research. In this
regards, research objectives are based in the two type of variables such as dependent and
independent. Both are effective aspects to completing the research activities in given period of
time. By this, researcher can easily find the better solution and draw a valid or accurate
conclusion that may increase the accuracy of the research in effective manner.
1.3 Research Questions
To analyse the role of organisational learning in sustainable development of construction
industry.
It is crucial part of investigation in which investigator answer all the set questions in
effective way. As it supports them in undertaking the literature review that includes opinion of
various writers about specific research area and topic as well (Oyewobi, Windapo and Rotimi,
2015). Mainly, it is based on particular issue or concern on which investigator may undertake the
study in more effectual manner. It helps in attaining accurate data and also may help in
