‘’The Division of Labour allows powerful groups structure global society.’’The division of labour refers to dividing individuals on the basis of their particular skillsets and specialisation. Many economists have studied the market and industries and on this basisthey have contended that division of labour makes the tasks easier. Through division of labour onthe basis of specialisation, an organisation becomes able to make positive returns. According toDurkheim, Emile, (2014), by dividing labour on the basis of their skills and capabilities, workerscan perform their tasks with more concentration and interest which helps in eliminatingunproductive activities. This also aids in saving cost of training as they can perform limited taskson which labours already have good knowledge. The division of labour is done on various baseswhich depend on the type of industry and the available work force. Basically, the division isdone according to the social and technical basis. In ancient society also, division of labour wasprevalent where jobs use to be assigned to workers as per their ability. Besides this, with animprovement in trade and economic conditions, this division was done more precisely so that itcan aid in enhancement of productivity for business as well as for workers (Harrod, Jeffrey, andRobert O'Brien, 2012). With all the positive results gained through application of dividing labour, anotherconcept of dividing work also came into the force. Work was divided into smaller tasks with anindividual schedule. In context of large industries, both concepts have a significant role inprogress of the company. As per Rainnie, Andrew and Susan McGrath (2011), the division oflabour can be done on social basis as society consists of various homogeneous andheterogeneous units. For commodity economy, this division has more vital role as all thecommodities have an exchange value. Manufacturing industries divided various works andassigned it to labours by segregating them into units of production, processing, finishing etc. When the final products reached the market for consumption by customers, the market use todevelop as products are exchanged for a value. This exchange is done with society and peopleresiding in it. In historical context, the society was divided according to their work where themain authority of managing the work was in the hands of king (Poli, Raffaele, 2010 ). After this, men and women of society used to work on their allotted tasks. The foremost thing in this sectionis that social division takes place due to the market forces. Thereby, this division make differentunits of society. 1
