AI Summary
This study discusses a moral dilemma related to the Untested System at the workplace and how the Doing Ethics Technique can help examine the ethical problem. The ethical dilemma in IT happens when the Manager of the IT department has to deliver a project to the client on coming Monday as the client wants his project on that day only. Ken, who is the system manager tells the manager that the project is not completed yet as the Testing part of the system has not been completed so he can’t deliver the project on Monday as the Testing manager is not coming and she is on one week’s leave. The huge increase in Ken’s work load, as well as his responsibilities and all this might trigger his job stress. Several companies and professional associations develop their specific or own particular code of morals or ethics. Ken and his team might face four types of ethical concerns or issues, such as privacy, accessibility, property, and accuracy. The last option that suggests that Ken should fight back is the best option among all the options as this will help Ken to complete his project and the client will also get to know that he is loyal and telling him the truth then the client will also trust them in the future dealings.

Introduction
In this study, a moral dilemma or an ethically questionable situation related to the
Untested System at the workplace is being discussed. It is related to the system that
the CEO and the program manager need to deliver to the client, but the situation is
that the system is Untested. There is a unique process that will surely help to examine
the ethical problem or the issue known as ‘Doing Ethics Technique’ which can also be
called as DET.
What is going on?
In this situation, an ethical dilemma in IT happens. The Manager of the IT department
has to deliver a project to the client on coming Monday as the client wants his project
on that day only (Al-Saggaf, 2016). On the other hand, Ken, who is the system
manager tells the manager that the project is not completed yet as the Testing part of
the system has not been completed so he can’t deliver the project on Monday as the

Testing manager is not coming and she is on one week’s leave. But the Manager
wants that Ken should present the project to the client on Monday anyhow.
Facts
Ken is not able to present the complete system to the client as the system is still
untested due to some issues. However, the client wants his project complete in all
aspects on Monday (Al-Saggaf, 2016). Therefore, Ken’s boss wants him to complete
the project anyhow before Monday because if there will be a delay in the project, then
the client will not work with them in the future as the XYZ client has already sent
them the contract of the project before the project had been started.
Issues (non-ethical)
The main issue here in this situation is that if they deliver the project without testing,
then they might face troubles once the system goes live and if Ken wants to complete
the entire project, including the testing of the system then he needs one-month time
at-least (Christiansen, 2013). This situation is affecting Ken so much as now he is not
able to understand what he should do, whether he should let the system go live
without testing or resign from the job or he fights back to accomplish the project.
Who is going to be affected?
The XYZ client of Ken in respect of this matter is going to be very much affected
because of this ethical dilemma as he has invested a lot of money in the project and its
parent organization will also be also affected because of the late delivery of the
project as it hinders the organization’s reputation and no one will sign the contract
with them anymore. The job of Ken, its management team, senior developers,
programmers and decision makers as well as all managers associated with the project
is in danger (Hollingworth & Valentine, 2014).
Ethical issues & its implications

4Doing Ethics Technique
The huge increase in Ken’s work load, as well as his responsibilities and all this might
trigger his job stress. Several companies and professional associations develop their
specific or own particular code of morals or ethics. Ken and his team might face four
types of ethical concerns or issues, such as privacy, accessibility, property, and
accuracy (Roy, 2014). Taken this issue to extreme implications might have huge
effects on Ken as a whole, and will also influence the future projects of Ken as well as
of his company too, and thereby, badly affecting the reputation of the company and its
economic conditions. Also, the job of Ken and his team members, those who are
working on the system project will also be affected (Siegel & Barr, 2013).
What can be executed or done about the issue?
Ethics or ethical issues can be very much harmful to Ken and his team’s career. To
avoid such ethical dilemmas, Ken should take specific time to handle the ethical issue
and both Ken and his company have to predate or follow perfect guidelines to solve
the issue (Sonenshein, 2012). No written code can help in solving this situation, but
establishing guidelines or principles as well as consequences for the system or the
project failure to simply act ethically can surely help Ken.
Options
There are a lot of options which Ken can select to avoid this ethical dilemma, such as,
Ken might resign from his Job and let the manager of the company handle this
situation. The second option is that Ken let the system go live without testing and in
case, there arises any problem in the system, then they manage those problems and
provide a better or appropriate system project to his client and this time, after
completing all the aspects of the project including testing (Raina, 2015). The last
option is that he can fight back for the project and request the client and take some
time from him so that the testing manager could perform testing.

Best option and why?
The last option that suggests that Ken should fight back is the best option among all
the options as this will help Ken to complete his project and the client will also get to
know that he is loyal and telling him the truth then the client will also trust them in the
future dealings. Ken should defend his option of fight back and should not let the
untested system go live without testing. Ken should impress his client with his
honesty and integrity and take one month time and deliver the project to his client
after completion with testing (Al-Saggaf, 2016).
Conclusion
It has been concluded that Ken has to simply maintain the ethics and DET will
support Ken to identify all the causes as well as provide the best solutions for the
issue and DET will be applied to facilitate the perfect recommendations to solve the
problem.
