Introduction
Domestic violence is the abusive or threatening behaviour of the individual causing
some injury. This can get affected by the historical and theoretical factors which impacts the
domestic violence interventions for reducing the positive effects on physical and mental
wellbeing (Baird, Gregory, & Johnson, 2011). The following passage will show the
literature review of the historical and theoretical perspective of intervention and treatment
options for the victims and perpetrators of domestic violence.
Literature Review
According to Al’Uqdah, Maxwell, & Hill (2016) domestic violence is considered to
be a moral perspective which is affected by the theoretical and historical factors that consist
of the risk factors associated with it (Al’Uqdah, Maxwell, & Hill, 2016). Also, when
domestic violence Intimate Partner Violence can get affected by the psychological and
biological approaches that lead to causing and intervention of the domestic violence. Further,
men are considered to be perpetrators of this illegal behaviour which can be caused due to
biological factors such as drug use, genetic and harmonic changes and the psychological
factors that determine the personality of the individual that specifically causes the violence
and later affects the treatment options. On the contrary, Baird, Gregory, & Johnson (2011)
describes that domestic violence intervention has been undertaken as per the historical and
theoretical factors that elaborate the causes of the violence (Baird, Gregory, & Johnson,
2011). Moreover, the perpetrators that undertake the violence have affected by the
behaviours that may result from the lower self-esteem of the patient. Besides, sociological
and feminist theory which clearly demonstrates that domestic violence is interpreted by the
gender considerations and the role of women in society. This have affected the intervention
and the treatment options as the social and political structures have to be emerged for dealing
with the issue.
From the perspective of Rakovec-Felser (2014) domestic violence can be the result of
the historical factors that determines that the history of perpetrator in context with the
psychological condition can affect the treatment options as it leads to the disparities into the
social reform (Rakovec-Felser, 2014). Further, theoretical perspective in terms of feminist
and conflict theory in which the tendency of differences in men and women creates the risk of
aggression and leading to violence. Moreover, the treatment options have been differentiated
as per this perspective as the women are more likely to be affected by the domestic violence.
