Definition and Types of Domestic violence
• Violence of one person on the other in a domestic setting.
• Mainly in the relationship of spouses
• Use of coercion and fear
• Include violence against children, parents and elderly
• Includes physical, verbal, emotional, economic, religious, reproductive
and sexual abuses
• Coercive forms such as marital rape, burnt cases and throwing of acid

Causes of Domestic Violence
• Stress
• Anger
• Jealousy
• Depression
• Financial tensions
• Getting insulted by the partner (Berns, 2017).

Rate of Domestic Violence in India
• 22% physical abuse
• 17% sexual abuse
• 59% psychological abuse
• 59.5% others forms (Kimuna et al., 2013)

Rate of Domestic Violence in Australia
• 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men have an experience of violence
• 1 in 6 women have an experience of violence by the live-in partner at
15 years of age
• 1 women in a week and 1 man in a month are killed
• 1 in 16 men have an experience of physical and sexual violence by the
live in partner at 15 years of age (Costa et al., 2015)
