Ending Domestic Violence
Domestic violence has been rising steadily over last few decades. It is an issue that
affect both men and women. However, from a statistical point of view women suffer more.
Children may not suffer physically but they may experience some psychological trauma that
may affect them for the rest of their lives. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates
that at least 30 percent of women around the world are abused physically every year. The
World Health Organization further observes that most of these cases are from intimate
partners. The trends are worrying. In some countries, the cases of domestic violence are as
high as 40 percent. Although the issue of domestic violence has been addressed by various
governmental and non-governmental initiatives, I feel that the issue is yet to receive the great
attention that it deserves. Every person on earth ought to be guaranteed of their safety.
Domestic violence has been shown to inflict not only physical pain but also psychological
pain that may affect the concerned person for a lifetime. Therefore, domestic violence is an
issue that ought to be taken more seriously than it is currently. An important question to ask
is why these cases persist despite the measures put in by governments and other agencies. It
is probable that these measures may not be effective in dealing with domestic violence. It is
said that the best way to deal with an issue is to go to the root of it. This piece attempts to
provide more effective ways of dealing with domestic violence.
