INTRODUCTION
This report is based on my internship which is conducted from October-2018 to August-2019 at
Mercantile Exchange House (UK) Ltd (www.meukltd.co.uk). As a business development
manager my main focus on business expansion, ensuring customer satisfaction through quality
services as well as maintaining the burning compliance issues including fraud and suspicious
financial activities, applying the guidelines of Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to protect
money laundering activities were among others. On the other hand, to evaluate the employees’
job performance our company does not have any formal appraisal system rather than manager of
the company takes necessary steps time to time, for example, when he notice any mistakes or
inefficiency happens in our day to day business, he rectify us through verbal suggestions as well
as arranging monthly training sessions for the employees. At the same time, for the quality
performance our manager recognizes the employees through verbal appreciation and sometimes
offering financial incentives when company fulfill the core objective of organization i.e.
achieving good profits.
Besides this report particularly highlights the applicability of the four key managerial skills
(leadership, negotiation, change management and problem solving) of the writer when he
pursuing his internship at Mercantile Exchange House (UK) Ltd.
Leadership Skills
Leadership is the process in which guidance is provided to workers regarding conducting
business operations (Borbély and Caputo, 2017). It is essential and crucial to understand what
has to be done for achieving aims and objectives. With proper leadership, it is easy to understand
what can be done through which performance of overall organisation can improve. When change
in done in appropriate manner, then this makes changes in working style of Mercantile Exchange
House (UK) Ltd. I as intern able to understand importance of leadership with which they can
perform actions in better and appropriate manner. As per my leadership with knowing practical
aspect at Mercantile Exchange House (UK) Ltd. Leadership is important because this motivates
workers, creates confidence among them. I got direction and guidance regarding change in
working style due to external market changes. I am able to perform operations with coordination
among workers. I gt knowledge about different leadership models so I can implement and
understanding my professional life of internship as well.
Develop Model of Leadership
I am at position of internship for HR executive so I have to perform actions according to
whole team because they are the source through which productivity of Mercantile Exchange
House (UK) Ltd. Can be improved. Identifying and interpretation what problem will arise is the
best and significant role of leader. In Mercantile Exchange House (UK) Ltd. There are many
workers, interns, etc. so with the help of this model, it is easy to lead individuals with different
skill, knowledge, etc. According to Sam Sujeet, 2019 4- H leadership model is specific and
relevant in order to understand how to lead time to complete task within specified time with
achieving aims and objectives (Brett and Thompson, 2016). This model is divided into four H's,
Humor, Humility, Hope, Humanity.

Humility- In this there is discussion about listening and respect for diversity. So humility
requires that with proper listening, individuals are able to perform their roles and responsibilities
in better manner (Chapman, Miles and Maurer, 2017). There are many workers at Mercantile
Exchange House (UK) Ltd. from different religion, culture, etc. so they want proper respect and
esteem at workplace. There are two factors which has to be considered under this model i.e.
listening and respect for diversity. When there is proper listening, then it is easy to make positive
environment at organization because employees have complete knowledge about it. Mercantile
Exchange House (UK) Ltd. having employees for different sources. It is relevant and crucial to
understand rituals and culture of others so working can be done properly. This also assist in
leading employees and perform actions in better and effective manner. Being leader I must listen
other individuals working in organization and respect their religion and culture.

Humanity- There is requirement of humanity in leader because they lead different
individuals which are working in association (Fischer, and Bajaj, 2017). I while working at
Mercantile Exchange House (UK) Ltd. As intern at the position of HR executive, there is
requirement of empathy and compassion with workers. Being working in HR department I have
to understand that workers needs emotional attachment through which they can perform actions
in better and effective manner. I provide workers company in order to complete their assigned
task. This provides them confidence that they can do it. I help workers to complete their task by
supporting them and providing positive feed-backs.
Hope- There is hope in leader to get best from the efforts they are giving (Gratch,
DeVault and Lucas, 2016). There is some assertiveness for getting proper outcome through
which they can perform actions in better and effective manner. I am giving good to Mercantile
Exchange House (UK) Ltd. As HR executive, so I am giving best and employees are satisfied
with my performance. So I want to get good financial reward with offer letter to work as
employee in organization. There is difference in working style of workers so I provide them
better environment to share their felling and perform actions in appropriate manner. When
performance of workers is improving because of team work. So I hope that there must be
positive impact on me as well as good reward. It is important to understand what is the right
decision for proper completion of task. So I have to assign roles as per their skills and
competencies.
Humor- There are many workers at Mercantile Exchange House (UK) Ltd., so
possibilities of humors are more in organization. Leader has good sense of humor, through which
they can make environment positive and perform actions in appropriate manner. I ham good in
lightening the mood of workers when they are tensed. Being HR I have to communicate with
workers through which I can sort out their issues and provide positive working environment.
Hence I am able to provide them positive relations with them and able to understand what
policies has to be made to reduce negativity in team. With the help of good sense of humor I am
make employees feel positive and get proper outcome with understanding external market.
There are some leadership theories as well with the help of which it is easy to lead employees
and make them perform work according to requirement. Some theories which are relevant in
Mercantile Exchange House (UK) Ltd. are as under-
