Drive Reduction Theory
 The drive reduction theory replaced that of instinct theory in relation
to motivation.
 Physiological need can give rise to a state of tension that can
motivate an organism of satisfying the need

Principles
 Motivation arises on account of biological needs
 Drive creates a state that is unpleasant and the tension should be
reduced
 Human behaviour can be explained in terms of conditioning along
with reinforcement

Implications on Learning
 The drive reduction theory plays a great role for the creation of habits
or that of behaviour
