Electronic health record (EHR) is a computerized version of a patient’s medical data. It is
a patient-centred and real-time electronic health document which can be readily available to any
authorized users in a safe manner (King, Patel, Jamoom & Furukawa, 2014).
“Electronic health records are the future of manually written health records.”
EClinicalWorks is an EHR system that has been developed to reduce the workload of
healthcare professionals. This software has been developed by eClinicalWorks LLC (a leading
company responsible for the development of medical software solutions). The eClinicalWorks
software has multiple features accountable for delivering an effective and innovative solution to
different healthcare environments such as clinics, surgical centres, hospitals and too many other
places (eClinicalWorks, 2020).
This article will discuss the eClinicalWorks EHR software, addressing the critical
elements of design usability, describe how human factors affect EHR and will also suggest
recommendations for improvement.
Discussion
The eClinicalWorks software is combined with the Practice Management System. It
guarantees that the flow of patient during the time of check-in and departure is simplified and
occurs without any hassle. The software also enables a continuous workflow from the front desk
to healthcare physicians and then to billing office staff. The best feature of this software is that it

The software has the feature to track health and wellness data.
The software is accessible by the patients.
It can integrate EHR, population health and patient engagement.
It also integrates Telehealth visits.
Human factors and EHR
Thorough research in human factors can help in enhancing the comprehension of the nurse
and EHR interaction. One major feature of the human factor is usability-the comfort of using the
system or the quality of a user's experience with an EHR system. The usability involves the
design, interface, and assessment of the knowledge of the user regarding the use of the EHR
system. The goals are:
Effectiveness: accurateness, ability to finish the routine chores, averting the system errors
and enhance security.
Efficiency: production, completing tasks promptly, efficiently helping the user to
understand the software and help in improving the usage skill, the expenditure of
training, and modifying the interface should be suitable.
Satisfaction: comfortable to the users, the user should have a satisfactory perception of
the effectiveness of the software.
