train end users on certain areas in concern and this assignment develops those
skills by asking you to develop realistic training module for an organization.

of the ‘problem’, strategies for its solution and then evaluation of the solution

Assignment Brief and Guidance:
ITCeylon is a well-established software development company in the Country. The
Company had decided to expand its human resources due to the increase in their
production capacity and customer demands. The current team (coded ‘Team 1’)
handling product deployments are fully loaded with the lengthy work on
implementations and maintenance on large and primary projects. A secondary
team of professionals are to be recruited and utilised for lower to medium range
software deployments. After a very competitive interview process, assume you
were selected as the new Project Manager – Product Deployment which is code
named ‘Team 2’.
Your first appointment will be to undertake product implementation tasks for the
new Computer aided learning and management system for Government Schools
called ‘eTeacher’. The product is now completing its systems testing stage. This
system will enable Teachers to add learning and evaluation modules to a
networked computer system from which students can self-learn and self-evaluate.
It needs to be deployed at a leading school in Colombo as per instructions of the
Ministry. The school has a computer lab and its capacities as follows:
- Computers : 30 Units – MS Windows 7 or above with multicore processors
and 2GB RAM
- Web server: Purchased for the project as brand new
- Network: UTP network with 2 x 24 Port switches
- Teachers : 6 Teachers with low to medium knowledge on ICT
- Internet : Broadband wireless connection
You are presented with following new recruits and their counts from staff to be
picked up to build your first team.
- Trainers – 03 – Have training exposure with average ICT competence.
- Assistant – 01 – Can handle all documenting tasks and simple electrical
connectivity issues
- Quality Assistant & Developer – 01 – Skilled in identifying and reporting
software issues and causes. Able to perform minor adjustments.
- ICT Officer 01 – Skilled in Network and server configurations, software
configurations etc.
- Senior Developer 02 – very skilled in software development including web.
As the first job of Team 2, you need to plan 2 major tasks: System implementation
and User Training.

Your first project management task is to plan the Deployment and staff training
for ‘eTeacher’ at the pilot school lab described above. The senior management
after discussing with the Ministry officials and the school principle had laid out
following criteria.
- Installation of ‘eTeacher’ must be completed within 5 days during the first
week of next month at end of holidays.
- Deployment should do minimum or no disruption to the ongoing practical
sessions for children
- A lab assistant is said to be available at school yet his/her capability or
character is unknown until visited. He/She needs to be trained on Backup
and recovery duties for ‘eTeacher’ parallel to training Teachers (Users)
- We need to psychologically improve the mindset of teachers prior to
Training them
- Training of teachers must be conducted during after-hours from 2pm –
5pm. The job must be completed in 5 days.
- Total job should not exceed 8 days.

Abstract
Physical classroom learning nowadays is no longer applicable to younger generations
today. Internet and distance learning which is generally known as online education plays a vital
role in the educational system of the country. It is undeniable that online education offers broad
benefits to young learners. However, there are also many negative implications of online
education. Limited collaborative learning, increased time and effort are the many negative
implications of online education. This study examines the implications of online education
among students, especially in a private higher education institution and its effect on Sri Lanka's
national education system. The information was collected through surveys, interviews and
secondary data, and analyzed in the SPSS. Studies have found that there are several serious
issues related to online education and their effects on the quality of the Malaysian education
system to some extent. Several problems have been identified and these issues need to be
resolved to maintain the quality of education for future generations. In addition, the Ministry of
Higher Education should formulate a standard policy, closely monitor the implementation of
online education and evaluate the teaching and updating methodology for maintaining the quality
of online education in private higher education institutions.
E-learning is an integral part of smart education. There are many e-learning methods that
are widely available to educational institutions. The challenge is to easily integrate the e-learning
system into an intelligent educational environment based on user requirements. E-learning
services have a software system that allows access to all materials for the educational process
and makes them available electronically to all students on the Internet wherever and whenever
they need them. The design and development of the e-learning system is a critical part of the
educational process as it reflects on the use of the system. In this article, the design and
implementation of e-learning systems are described where different techniques are explored and
compared. The proposed e-learning system is designed using database models and models and
open source and shelf engineering tools. The system is tested to prove new design concepts and
features. The method used in backend and frontend design and implementation enables flexible
use and integration of e-learning systems by educational institutions in smart cities. Let us look
how this e-learning and management module deployment deal with persons’ lives.

Introduction
E-learning is the technic which uses to learning and training by using digital resources.
Although electronic learning is based on formal learning, it is delivered via electronic devices
such as computers, tablets, and internet-connected mobile phones. This makes it easy for users to
learn anytime, anywhere, if there are fewer limitations. It is not just a formal teaching-based
learning system, but electronic learning with electronic learning. While teaching can be based
inside or outside the classroom, the use of computers and the Internet is the main component of
E-learning. E-learning can also be termed as a network of skills and knowledge transfer, and
education is offered to a large number of recipients at the same or different times. On the
contrary, it was not accepted wholeheartedly, as it was believed that this system lacked the
human element necessary for learning.
From computer education to online learning, many applications are used to describe
computer learning, online learning, online learning, and more. We define eLearning as courses
that are specifically delivered via the internet to somewhere other than the classroom where the
teacher is teaching. It is not a course taught through a DVD or CD-ROM, videotape or through a
television channel. It's interactive because you can also communicate with your teachers,
teachers or other students in your class. Maybe it's life, you can raise your "electronic" hand and
connect in real time, maybe it's a pre-recorded lecture. There is always a teacher or teacher
interacting / communicating with you and classifying your participation, assignments, and tests.
E-Learning has proven to be a successful training method and education is becoming a way of
life for many North Carolina citizens.
However, with rapid progress in technology and advancement in learning systems, it is
now embraced by the masses. The introduction of computers was the basis of this revolution, and
over time, when we connect to smartphones, tablets, etc., these devices now have an important
place in the classroom for learning. Books are gradually being replaced by electronic educational
materials such as optical disks or flash drives. Knowledge sharing is accessible 24/7, anytime,
anywhere.
E-learning has proven to be the best medium in the corporate sector, especially when
training programs are conducted by multinational companies for professionals around the world
and employees are able to acquire important skills while in a meeting room or seminar conducted
to employees of the same or different organizations under one roof. Schools that use e-learning
technologies are one step ahead of those that still have the traditional learning approach. Of
course, it is equally important to advance the concept of non-electronic teaching with the help of
books and lectures, but the importance and effectiveness of technology-based learning cannot be
completely ignored or ignored.
It is believed that the human brain can easily remember and relate to what is seen and
heard through moving images or videos. It has also been found that visual aids, in addition to
maintaining student attention, are also retained by the brain for longer periods. Several sectors,
including agriculture, medicine, education, services, businesses, and government facilities are

communicating with teachers through chats and message boards is also an option available to
users. There is a multitude of different e-learning systems and methods that enable course
delivery. With the right tool, multiple processes can be automated, such as a course with defined
materials and automatically marked tests. E-learning is an affordable solution that gives students
the ability to adapt learning to lifestyle, effectively allowing even the busiest person to make
career progress and gain new qualifications.
Some of the most important developments in education have occurred since the launch of
the Internet. Today, students are well-versed in smartphone use, text messaging, and Internet use,
so participating in and taking an online course has become a simple task. Message boards, social
media, and various other online media allow students to stay in touch and discuss course-related
topics, providing a sense of community. In the fast-paced world of e-learning, the technologies
available to make a course new and exciting are always changing, and course content can and
should be updated quickly to provide students with the latest information. This is especially
important if e-learning training is being offered to employees in an industry where updating
industry developments is of the utmost importance. This is one reason why many companies are
offering e-learning training - other reasons include lower costs and the ability for employees to
study at their own time and place.

A group of people with a complete set of complementary skills needed to complete a
task, job, or project is called a team. A strong sense of mutual commitment can coexist when
a team is more than just a collection of individuals, it is a greater performance than the sum
of its individual members.
One of the many ways for a company to organize employees is in teams. A team is made
up of two or more people working together to achieve a common goal. Teams offer an
alternative to a vertical chain of command and are a much broader approach to the business
organization. Teams are becoming more common in business today. Team productivity
encourages team employees and increases the productivity of business products.
Although no team exists without problems, some teams, particularly those that have
learned to counteract negative team dynamics, seem to be especially good at preventing
many problems. Following is a list of what might be considered the most essential ingredient
for building effective teams.

Factors affects to success
1) Cohesiveness
It is better that considering how cohesive members are with each other. Once a team is
friendly, a member's commitment and willingness to strive for excellence grows. Team
cohesion affects how well members relate to each other, get along with each other, and
trust and respect each other's skills and opinions. While these characteristics are difficult
to observe, managers can look for signs that team members are well acquainted with the
superficial topics of knowing and greeting. Managers can also determine if team
members participate equally in group discussions and activities rather than forming clicks
or subgroups of cohesive units.
2) Communication
Efficient communication mechanisms are crucial for developing effective teams. In
order to understand the scope of a goal and agree on the path to achieving that goal,
teams must develop an effective method of communication Team indicators of
effective team communication include soft dialogue, willingness to consider all ideas,

desire to improve communication frequency, conflict resolution, and decision

3) Groupthink
Group thinking is a tendency of decision teams to suppress opposing viewpoints in
order to preserve group harmony. This phenomenon can occur because individual
team members have a huge desire to be accepted and teams want to minimize
conflict. By determining the degree to which a team is experiencing group thinking, a
manager can assess whether the team is exercising many dominant characteristics.
Other aspects of group thinking include interpersonal adaptation, indifference to
group goals and consequences, peer pressure within the group, and one-sided
discussions.
4) Homogeneity
Homogeneity is the extent to which members are similar or different from each other.
The difficulty for most project managers is finding the right balance between overly
homogeneous and overly heterogeneous teams. In assessing group homogeneity, a
manager may consider similarities and differences in personal characteristics,
education, skills, abilities, generational backgrounds, cultural backgrounds, and
income levels. Teams that are homogeneous tend to be highly cohesive and can easily
develop effective communication methods that reduce conflict. However, too much
homogeneity leads to greater instances of group thinking. Alternatively, the
advantage of highly heterogeneous groups is that members have greater diversity,
which gives them greater opportunities for creativity, ingenuity and productive
productivity. However, teams that are very diverse can limit the degree to which
members can relate to each other and communicate effectively.
5) Role Identity
Role Identity is the ability to diversify efforts and develop expertise in subject matter
so that members can play multiple roles throughout the team structure. The diverse
skills and knowledge that members bring to a team provide a wide range of resources
needed to achieve a goal. Managers can see to what extent a team can recognize each
member's individual potential and identify the most appropriate role for that member.
Otherwise, a team cannot be expected to be highly functional and perform well.
6) Stability
Stability significantly affects teamwork and the level of stability among members and
project leaders. Teams with lower turnover rates tend to have higher levels of team
cohesion, better communication practices, and more role-playing. In addition to
simply assessing turnover rates, managers can assess the extent to which members of
a stable and trusting relationship are comfortable with one another.

7) Team Size
By assessing the size of a team, managers can maximize productivity to ensure high
levels of team performance. The more members of a team, the more resources will be
available to reach a goal. However, as team size increases, so does the number of
conflicts, resulting in lower levels of cohesion and inefficient productivity. To assess
whether a team is too large or too small, managers must consider how members work
effectively and harmoniously and whether the necessary tasks are being performed
effectively by all team members.
Factors affects to failure
1) Lack of scope
In the absence of an appropriate scope document, you will never be able to assign
tasks, let alone monitor the performance of your team, because you are unsure about
the scope of the project in the first place. Creating a detailed scope document that
highlights all stakeholder requirements is critical to successful project delivery as it
allows team members to understand what they need to do and set a clear direction and
goal to achieve.
2) Inconsistent Communication
To save your project from failing, you need to establish a clear line of
communication. In addition, you should use a project management system that allows
for smooth communication with the project team. Effective communication within
any organization is important to keep all members of your team on the same page, to
avoid confusion and to keep them motivated. By communicating with your team, you
can create a trusted environment, proactively kill conflicts, which would bring out the
best in your employees and eventually lead to successful project delivery.

When implementing a software, there are some main options to be consider.
1) Analyse, plan and understand.
Start at the very beginning. The first step in the implementation process should
begin with an in-depth analysis of your business needs and processes, identifying
what works well and what areas of your business need improvement and refinement.
These business requirements are then mapped to your project plan so that the rest of
the execution can take place. In this scenario we have to product implementation task
for the new computer aided learning and management system called ‘e-Teacher’
2) Design, Develop and Build.
Using the project plan developed in the initial step, your implementation team
will move on to building your pilot system next. It is used to validate those processes
and system performance described in the project plan. In this scenario we design this
software mainly for students and teachers. So it is so important to design the software
user friendly and clear.
3) Train, Test and Accept.
This step includes best practices and procedures for teaching your staff lessons,
using test data migrated from your previous system, and providing the necessary
performance for Step 3. The re-training and training period of this test should be
reviewed and signed. . The progress achieved so far is in line with the overall
objectives of implementation and implementation.

In day 1 and 2 we plan about the deployment of the system. On there we get ideas from

TASK 3
3. Plan and conduct Training Session.
3.1. Prepare a schedule for the 5 days as per given criteria mentioning multiple
communication styles you would plan to use to effectively deliver the training to teachers. A
tabular format will be more effective. Also indicate timing and team members allocated.
Above is the Gantt chart of the training session. After we deploy the system, we have to give
training for the staff and teachers who use this system. This things we do on last 3 days from 8
days. In this scenario we divided it into 4 main parts. Introducing the system is first one of it.
When the new system deploy, no one know about the operation, how to use it, what are the
facilities of it etc. So by introducing new system to the others we mainly give them rough idea
about the system. The 2nd one is giving phycology improvement session for the teachers and
assistant. The facts of the system must be well remember to them because they are the people
who teach about the system to the students. So it is very important to relax their mind before
study the system. Giving training is next thing. In training session there are two main time
periods. 7.30AM-10.30AM and 2PM-5PM are them. We plan to train lab assistant in the first
time period. When he/she train, it is very important to minimum or no disruption to students.
And 2PM-5PM time period we use for teachers, because in morning session teachers cannot
participate to the training sessions because they have to teach students. This training sessions
held for two days. It enough 2 days to gain knowledge about the system to them. Final day the
system provide for students’ learning purposes.

In general terms, the risk involves exposure to some kind of danger and the possibility of
loss or injury. In general, the risks may apply to your health or physical safety at work. In

from an investment will differ from an expected result or return. The risk includes the possibility
of losing part or all of the original investment.
Quantitatively, the risk is generally assessed by considering historical behaviour and
outcomes. In finance, the standard deviation is a common metric associated with risk. Standard
deviation provides a measure of the volatility of a value compared to its historical average.
Overall, it is possible and prudent to manage investment risks, which makes the understanding
risk very important. Learning the risks that can be applied to different scenarios and some of the
ways to manage them holistically will help all types of investors and business managers avoid
unnecessary and costly losses.
If there is risks we have to identify the risks and get right solutions for them. As others
this training sessions too have risks and we have to manage them. There are 5 main risk
management steps. Following are them.
Step 1: Identify the Risk. You and your team discover, recognize and describe the risks
that may affect your project or its results. There are several techniques you can use to
find project risks. During this step, you begin to prepare your Project Risk Register.
Step 2: Analyse the risk. Once the risks are identified, you determine the likelihood and
consequence of each risk. You develop an understanding of the nature of risk and its
potential to affect project goals and objectives. This information is also entered in your
Project Risk Register.
Step 3: Assess or assess the risk. You evaluate or rate the risk by determining the
magnitude of the risk, which is the combination of probability and consequence. You
decide if the risk is acceptable or if it is severe enough to warrant treatment. These risk
ratings are also added to your Project Risk Register.
Step 4: Treat the risk. This is also known as Risk Response Planning. During this step,
you evaluate your highest risks and establish a plan to address or modify those risks to
acceptable levels. We create risk mitigation strategies, preventive plans, and contingency
plans in this step. In addition, you add risk treatment measures to get the highest rating or

Step 5: Monitor and review the risk. This is the step where we take our Project Risk

managing a comprehensive list of project risks, unpleasant surprises and barriers can be

When working as a team or a group, it is very important to have inter personal skills.
Interpersonal skills shows the strength of a person to the others. Interpersonal skills are those we
use every day when communicating and interacting with others, both individually and in groups.
People with strong inter personal skills are often more successful in their professional and
personal lives. Interpersonal skills include a wide range of skills, although many focus on
communication, such as listening, questioning, and understanding body language. They also
include the skills and attributes associated with emotional intelligence, or being able to
understand and manage one's own and other people's emotions.
People with good interpersonal skills tend to be able to work well in a team or group and
with others in general. They are able to communicate effectively with others, whether they are
family, friends, colleagues, clients or customers. Therefore, interpersonal skills are vital in all
areas of professional, educational and social life. With an awareness of how you interact with
others and practice, you can improve your interpersonal skills. This required skills section is
filled with practical information and advice that you can use to improve and develop your
interpersonal skills.

As a project manager of the team there are different tasks had to me to complete.
1. Responsibilities
Planning project resources: A project can start and is certainly designed to fail if there was no
plan planned to be executed on time and on budget. The project manager's first role is to make a
workable plan that meets project goals and objectives and aligns with the organization's overall
business strategy. This is not just a plan with which the project will be executed, but a critical
part of the argument for getting project approval. Part of the plan is to define the scope of the
project and determine what resources are available, estimate time and financial commitment, and
monitor and report on project progress.

Project Team Assembly and Leadership: Project managers need resources to complete project
tasks, including skilled and experienced workers. They need to take a leadership role in an
existing team or create one. Once a team is created, you assign tasks and deadlines, provide the
tools to collaborate, and do not hinder the management of all activities. Meet regularly, of
course, and get status updates to track your progress, reallocating resources as needed to avoid
blocking or overloading team members.
Time management: Time is always running towards the project deadline. While communication
is the key to handling change and ensuring that everyone is doing what they need when they
need it, the project manager must also accurately define, schedule, and estimate the duration of
the task to develop and maintain a realistic schedule.
Budget: Nothing will be done without money. Finding the right funding for the project,
accepting it, and keeping it at or below this value creates or disrupts a project. You can get
timely deliveries from stakeholders, but if it costs more than the budget you create, the project
will be a failure. Making an accurate estimate is only the first part. Then you must monitor actual
spending against the planned budget. If these numbers are disabled, you must adjust accordingly.
Quality and satisfaction: These are two major obstacles to be faced. You want to deliver to
stakeholders what they expected or better and ensure that they are satisfied with the results. But
that does not mean ignoring them to focus only on the project. Instead, you need to be in constant
communication with them, reporting their progress and being open to their comments to keep
them happy and coming back to you on future projects.
Manage problems and risks: Problems will inevitably arise in a project. This is called a
problem. You need to be ready for them and work to resolve them quickly so they don't get in
the way of your project. Then there are risks, which are potential problems that still need to
occur or may never occur. Regardless, you must find out what the risks are beforehand and
establish a plan of action if they occur.
Monitoring progress: To ensure that a project is progressing as planned, you must constantly
measure it and compare these metrics with the plan you created. Therefore, you should have a
way to collect project data, such as team status reports, to verify that the actual project progress
is in line with what you originally planned. Things will change along the way, and you will need
to adjust or reallocate resources to accommodate these changes. If you are not monitoring this,
you are managing it in the dark.
Reporting and Documentation: Reporting is a way of communicating with your team and
stakeholders. While teams need more detailed information and stakeholders look for broader data
to track project progress, both are essential tasks for the project manager. This documentation,
along with all documentation, must be collected, signed, and archived at the end of a project,
which provides a history you can revisit when planning a similar project in the future.

2. Performance objectives.
1. Lead the team
Mission Critical Objectives for PMs Leading the project team means more than simply managing
the allocation of project resources. While this is critical, of course, a good project leader can
keep the team motivated and happy by working together and independently to get the job done.
There is a lot more to leadership than we have room to describe here, but you don't have to have
a traditional leadership role to lead others. It's more a matter of ensuring that you are able to
facilitate a work environment where people feel empowered to do their job and want to do their
best.
2. Deliver the Project
A goal about meeting goals? One of the most critical goals for any project manager is to ensure
that you meet the project goals. Needless to say, but I'll say it anyway - this is your job!An
essential part of project management is ensuring that you give the project every chance of
success, which means bringing the concepts and ideas given to you at the start of the project and
leading them to project execution and implementation. You deliver what you are asked for, and
most importantly, this is how project managers are judged if they are good at their jobs.
3. Manage Stakeholders
Managing project stakeholders is another critical goal for a project manager - especially the
sponsor. The project sponsor is usually the person who profits most from the project and the
person who invests money and resources to do the work. In fact, you are working for them
despite who your line manager is on an organizational structure diagram. Stakeholder
management is important because your expectations and involvement can create or break a
project. Stakeholders who expect too much will be disappointed. Stakeholders who are not
involved enough will have difficulty keeping up with what is happening and you may find that
your contributions are becoming less and less. Working in an environment where your project is
not adequately supported is very difficult, so keeping these people aside is essential.
4. Time to completion
Actual progress should correspond to planned progress. Important stages of the project should
not take place after the due date. Timing objectives are extremely important because late
completion of a project often does not please a project buyer or sponsor.

3. Required knowledge and skills.
1. Leadership
We have to start with your great father - leadership. It's a bit of a slippery skill, as some believe
you were born with leadership skills and that they can't be taught. But we think everyone has the
potential to learn to apply from leadership skills and techniques. After all, what is the
alternative? As a project manager, you are not only responsible for completing the project
successfully, but also leading a team to achieve this goal. This requires that you motivate and
mediate when needed. Remember that project leadership comes in different styles, one of which
fits your personality. It's more than managing tasks; is managing people.
2. Communication
Communications really go hand in hand with leadership. You cannot be an effective leader if you
cannot articulate what you need your team to do. But not only will you communicate with your
team, but you will also need to have clear communication with all project partners, from
suppliers and contractors to stakeholders and customers. Whether through reporting tools or
promoting collaboration with chat, file sharing, and other means to set up task-level discussions,
you will need both systems to facilitate communications. These tools also help you connect
people individually and in groups, such as meetings and presentations.
3. Scheduling
We are now getting to know some of the skill sets required of project managers, and few are as
essential as knowing how to create a project schedule. The only way to achieve project goals on
time is to break them down into tasks on a timeline. This is the schedule and is at the heart of
what a project manager does: set up a realistic schedule and then manage the resources to track
so that the project can be successfully completed on time. There are many tools that can help
with this process, including the online Gantt chart, which provides an overview of the schedule
with tasks, task durations, dependencies, and milestones.
4. Risk Management
Doing anything is a risk. Planning a project, large or small, is inherent in risk. It's part of your
job to see these problems before they become problems. Therefore, before executing the project,
you must work to identify, assess and control the risks. The more you manage risk, the more
likely your project is to succeed. Obviously, you cannot predict everything that can happen
throughout the life cycle of your project. There will be unforeseen problems that will arise, so
you need to have a process to deal with them when they arise.
5. Cost Management
You can do nothing without the money to pay for it. You have created a budget. Your first job is
to make sure that the budget is realistic and can meet the project's financial needs, and secondly
to control those costs through project execution. This is easier said than done. Unless you are
lucky and work for an organization with unlimited funds, you will have certain financial

constraints and probably have a very tight budget. It takes a lot of skill to figure out how to
extract every penny from these limited funds.
6. Quality Management
Most of these skills are obvious, right? Well, they are the top 10 project management skills.
However, quality management is often overlooked by project leaders and needs to attract more
attention. Quality management oversees the activities and tasks required to deliver a product or
service at the level indicated in the project documentation. Sound familiar? It's basically a part of
your job that you may never have nominated or, worse, miss deadlines. Keeping the schedule is
important, but this schedule makes no sense if it produces something below average.
7. Critical Thinking
Project managers are not the only ones who could benefit from this capability. Most of us are not
thinking, but reacting and following a series of responses that have been informed or learned.
Not such a bad thing. Sometimes you may be on autopilot, but it is better to know how to turn it
off. Critical thinking is simply being as objective as possible in analyzing and evaluating a
problem or situation so that you can form an unbiased judgment. This prevents you from acting
on the emotions or knowledge you receive, and isn't that what a project manager should do? You
face problems every day working on a project and want your decisions to be unbiased. The only
thing that guides your decision should be the best one for the project.
4. Learning requirement.
 PM / BA: You can obtain certification or a bachelor's degree in project management from
any number of graduate and graduate education programs.
 PMP: PMP is a project management professional and is an internationally recognized
certification awarded by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
 Organizations such as Agile / Scrum: Scrum Alliance provide training and certification
on these new project management practices.

4.3. Research on your own and provide a brief comparison of ‘Motivational Theories’ to be
applicable within organizations.
Theories of Motivation.
1. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
According to Smith and Cronje, the way Maslow's theory is explained is based on the fact
that people want to increase what they want to achieve in life and their needs are prioritized
according to their importance. Derived from Maslow's hierarchy of needs, job satisfaction
theories revolve around employee needs and factors that bring them a reasonable degree of
satisfaction. Based on the basic physical, biological, social, and psychological needs of
human beings, Maslow created a five-stage theory that puts the needs of the individual into
different categories and prioritizes. These categories, in descending order of priority, are:
• physiological needs (food, shelter, clothing);
• safety and security needs (physical protection);
• social needs (association with others);
• esteem needs (receiving acknowledgement from others); and
• self-actualisation needs (the desire for accomplishment or to leave behind a legacy).
Maslow's hierarchy of needs forms the basis of theories that attempt to explain job
satisfaction. Teachers, like everyone else, have needs that need to be met. In addition to the
basic needs of food, shelter and clothing, safety from physical, harm and social interactions,
they also need the recognition and appreciation of students, colleagues and parents.
2. Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory/Motivator-Hygiene.
Herzberg's two-factor theory, also known as Motivator Hygiene, emanated from a study of
accounts and engineers to determine what makes an individual feel good or bad about his job.
As for "satisfactory," Herzberg noted that there were five characteristics of work that bring
satisfaction: achievement, recognition, self-employment, responsibility, and promotion. At
the other extreme, Herzberg identified institutional policy, management approach,
supervision, compensation, labor relations, and working conditions as factors that may
demoralize employees. Golshan, Kaswuri, Agashahi and Ismail argue that organizations are
increasingly applying Herzberg's theory to create opportunities for "personal growth,
enrichment and recognition" among their employees. Employees should be promoted after
completing certain stages of their career and receiving recognition for special
accomplishments - for example, when they produce excellent results in their areas of
expertise. At a more basic level, they must also have a responsibility to determine how to
handle tasks related to their jobs. The theory of the two factors, however, attracted its share
of criticism. Golshan et al. stresses that it cannot distinguish between physical and
psychological aspects and explain precisely what motivates them and how they differ from
hygiene factors. It is also fails to express degrees of satisfaction and dissatisfaction as a

measure rather than using numbers. Another criticism raised against her is that she assumes
that all individuals will react the same way in the same situation.
3. McGregor’s X and Y Theories.
McGregor's (1960) models of theory X and Y categorize employees as belonging to one of
two groups based on two sets of assumptions. The assumptions of theory X have a negative
perspective on people: people may have “an inherent antipathy to work and avoid it if
possible; therefore, they must be coerced, controlled, directed and threatened with
punishment to make them work. They prefer to be targeted, avoid responsibility, have little
ambition and want security. The premises of theory Y have the opposite view: the mental and
physical inputs spent in the workplace are equated and equal to those resting or having fun.
External factors or external threats may not be the only influence on the effort. Workers or
people may be cautious and disciplined in achieving their goals, but hunger in the desire to
commit to their goals depends on how great the rewards attributed to that achievement.
Under normal circumstances, people may adapt to seek responsibility and not just accept it.
Applying these assumptions to the school environment, it can be argued that two of the main
causes of dissatisfaction among teachers are having to deal with troubled students and with
reckless and rigorous administration, for example, a coercive principal who does not
appreciate the efforts of teachers or excessively principal who never delegates or allows
teachers to make independent decisions. On the other hand, a support director can be a source
of job satisfaction for teachers.
4. McClelland’s Need Achievement Theory.
McClelland's Needs Achievement Theory postulates that some people are driven to success
by seeking "personal accomplishments rather than rewarding themselves". This theory is
readily applicable to academic environments and explains why some teachers succeed
despite the difficulties they face: they set high goals, and achieving those goals is what drives
them. Alderfer's ERG theory is related to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, but reduces to five
Maslow needs categories; that is, being of relation, being of growth.
5. The equity theory
These theories explain 'how' satisfaction occurs as opposed to 'what' causes motivation.
Equity theory postulates that employees evaluate their entry into a job in relation to their
output - the more rewards, the greater their satisfaction. This resonates with Naveed et al.
Define job satisfaction as the difference between incoming and outgoing employees. With
respect to this theory, employees who realize that they receive more results from their jobs
than what they put into them experience job satisfaction. Certain aspects of the job itself also
shape the way an employee perceives it. Tasks that are clarified bring better job satisfaction
because a clear role generates a happy and committed workforce that shows a lot of
involvement in the work done. The authors identified five key job characteristics that affect

an employee's psychological state and influence their motivation and job satisfaction, as well
as their levels of absenteeism, namely the variety of skills involved in a task, the identity and
meaning of the job task, autonomy and feedback. Employees compare their inbound and
outbound relationships with those of other employees, and if they feel fair, they will be
satisfied. If employees perceive an inequality in entry and exit rates compared to others, they
are dissatisfied and less motivated.
6. Value – Percept Theory.
Individual values determine their job satisfaction because employees in organizations
have different value systems; therefore, based on this theory, your satisfaction levels will also
differ. Observing the theory of Value - Perception, the assumption is that the difference
between expectations and what is received can bring dissatisfaction, depending on the
importance of work for the individual. The potential problem with this theory is that there is
a possibility of a relationship between what people want and what they consider important.
These concepts may be theoretically separable but practically difficult to differentiate.
