Teaching Strategies
1. Visualisation
EYLF Learning outcome – 2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world
(Framework, 2009).
Sub outcome - Children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an
understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community
participation
Children in the age group of 4-5 are able to understand concepts better if they are
visualised for them. Create an engaging visual presentation for children with an animated
story about the cultural values surrounding Eid-ul-Fitr (). This can be done using colourful
pictures or comic strips and displaying them on the screen with a narration in the background.
Alternately an animated video from a resource like YouTube can also be used. One such
video is titled “Short Stories for Kids - Story on Eid ul Fitr”, which is a five minute animated
video describing the cultural value of harmony and sharing amongst people to foster elements
of respect, love and admiration during Eid-ul-Fitr (APPUSERIES, 2017 Jun 15).
2. Cooperative teaching
EYLF Learning Outcome - 2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world
(Framework, 2009).
Sub outcome - Children respond to diversity with respect.
Engage the children in a predominantly student based learning environment. Provide a
small group of children with an assortment of props that can be used as gifts and ask them to
go around and distribute it amongst others in the class. In the end every child should have one
prop as a gift irrespective of whether they are close friends with the person distributing the
gifts or not. Inform the children that the cultural value of Eid ul Fitr lies in the aspect of
sharing amongst all.
3. Inquiry based instruction
EYLF Learning Outcome - 2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world
(Framework, 2009).
Sub outcome - Children respond to diversity with respect.
Provide the children with a variety of materials ranging from colourful of sweets,
gifts, and people celebrating with each other, hugging each other and sharing presents.
