INTRODUCTION
People management is a strategy which is followed by an organization to
manage the workers or people of an organization. In other words, people
management can be defined as a set of practices which comprises of end-to-end
process of talent acquisition, talent optimization and retention while offering
continuous support and guidance to employees of an organization. The management
of people is not an easy task and some of the skills which can be helpful for people
management are- empathy, motivation mapping, trust building, appreciating and
knowledge seeking (What is people management, 2021). The strategy of people
management is based on key pillars, which are- motivation, teamwork and
knowledge and development. With the help of people management, an organization
can enhance productivity of employees and overall organization and boost employee
morale. Such practices are helpful in employee development, enhancing working
environment, aligning business objectives and is also helpful in attracting and
retaining greater number of talented people with the organization.
EasyJet plc is a British multinational low-cost airline company which is
operating under the parent company easy group. This airline company calls started
in March 1995 by Sir Stelios Haji-loannou. The airline company is seventh largest
airline company with 342 aircrafts and £48 million customers across 35 countries
and with 154 airports (EasyJet Plc, 2021). The company is operating from 25 years
and is generating around 6,385 million yearly. Easy jet is also working with around
15,000 talented personnel’s who supports in managing the continuous flow of
operations. Easy Jet follows hierarchical organizational structure which is followed
from top to down to ground staff and cabin crew.

This report will discuss about the concepts of people management. The report
will outline leadership and management practices of the organization. The study will
discuss the training and development of selected organization. Lastly, the report will
outline talent management practices and few recommendations for business.
1. LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
LEADERSHIP
Leadership is the ability to guide and motivate people and employees through
which they can work in the right direction and perform effectively which will be helpful
in meeting organizational objective (Alagaraja, Cumberland and Choi, 2015). A
business leader is accountable of developing employee performance and
encouraging them to work towards the accomplishment of organizational objectives.
As a business leader, some of the leadership traits which defines their leadership
traits are– courage, knowledge and decisiveness.
In case of EasyJet, the purpose of leaders of the airline company focuses on
developing the performance of employees by motivating them and directing them
towards the right direction through which they can effectively perform and ensure
organizational productivity. With the help of leadership skills, EasyJet leaders
focus on enhancing employee performance by boosting employee morale.
Importance of leadership- Leadership is essential as this helps in taking
actions, providing motivation, providing guidance and direction and focus on work
environment. In case of Easy Jet, the business leaders of airline company focus
on leadership skills through which they bring change successfully and coordinate
with all the employees through which organization can meet their objectives.
Transformational leadership style- Transformational leadership style
focuses son empowerment, clear vision. Commitment and job satisfaction. In case of
EasyJet, the airline company leads to employee and organizational performance
beyond expectations which helps them in strengthening their customer base and

ensuring all employees are performing effectively and are participating in business
activities to accomplish the desired objective (Ali and et.al, 2021). The CEO of
EasyJet focuses on working with teams an employee at all level through which their
performance can be nourished and this will also boost their morale to perform
effectively in the organization.
MANAGEMENT
Management is the administration which focus on pursing the objectives of
business through which performance can be developed. The activities which are
performed by management focuses on planning, organizing, implement the plan
through which workers will focus on enhancing the performance which will
support in meeting organizational objectives.
In case of EasyJet, the airline company organize development programs
which is helpful in strengthening employees as human capital of business. With
the help of effective management, the airline company focus on making optimum
utilisation of resources through which they can enhancing organizational
effectiveness and productivity.
Importance of management- Management in an organization is essential as
it supports in meeting targets, increasing efficiency and supports in creating dynamic
business (Bainbridge, 2015). In case of EasyJet, the management of airline
company helps the organization in working towards the development of employees
and society which will be helpful in meeting consumer demands and organizational

theory ensures that the human capital or employees of an organization can meet the

2. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
Training and development is a management practice which is followed by an
organization for enhancing the knowledge and skills of employees while sharing
information on how performance can be enhanced with the help of specific task.
Training plays a significant role in development of an employee, the characteristics
of training and development are- it is personalized through which required
development can be done, the approach is inquiry based and is a collaborative effort
for business.
EasyJet is a growing airline company which is operating in 35 countries over
1000 routes and for that the company employees 10,000 people. The airline
company focuses on offering training to their employees through which they can train
them and ensure effective employee performance at all levels of jobs. The training
and development programs of EasyJet focuses on 70:20:10 philosophy which states
that 70% of learning is done through job, 20% is done through coaching and 10% is
done through face-to-face programs. The training and development of focuses on
safety equipment’s and procedures, first aid training, aviation security and dangerous
goods, customer service, cabin service and uniform standards (Denning, 2018). The
employees working at different level are trained as per their designation in the
organization. EasyJet offers training to their employees at their training Academy at
London Gatwick Airport or Milan Malpensa Airport. Easy Jet organised training
programmes to bridge skill shortages and maximize talent to improve quality of work
life. EasyJet has a development strategy to ensure employee advancement and the
transformation of workers into organisational assets.
Training and development is essential in airline industry and helps employees
in effectively assisting customers through which they can ensure customer safety,
satisfaction and this will also enhance the quality of service and productivity (Knies
and Leisink, 2018). Training and development hold a significant value for airline
company, some of this can be reflected through- advantages of standardization,
incline in organizational stability, boosted morale, reduced supervision, economical
and optimum utilization of resources, increased productivity, strong industrial
relationships and decline in accidents at workplace.

Training is an essential practice which must be followed by all organization and due
to poor implication if training and development, this can lead to frustrated and
unhappy employees. Such ineffectiveness will lead to lower productivity, poor quality
of work, incline in accidents at workplace, lack of safety and lack of employee
engagement at the workplace (Hoffman and Tadelis, 2021). The lack of training is
responsible to create a negative impact on employee performance and their morale
which directly affects the organizational performance and productivity. Some of the
factors, such as- expensive method, time consuming approach, dislocation of work,
loss of output and interrupted or delayed work are some of the limitations of training
and development in an organization.

3. TALENT MANAGEMENT (People management)
Talent management is the process of attraction, selection and retention of
employees. The talent management practises the combination of HR processes
which are followed throughout the employee lifecycle (Knies, Leisink and Van De
Schoot, 2020). The application of talent management is based on four pillars, which
are- recruitment, corporate learning and development, performance management
and compensation management. The features of talent management are-
recognizing talent, attracting talent, retaining talent, managing succession and focus
on changing organizational culture.
According to Easy Jet's HR, an efficient talent management method is one
that supports the corporation in managing organisational staff and controlling their
performance for the benefit of the company. In case of EasyJet, the talent
management process which have been followed by the airline company is discussed

Planning- Easy Jet's HR department produces an efficient plan to aid the firm in
keeping great individuals and transforming them into assets during the initial stage of

firm instils trust in its personnel that they are carrying out their responsibilities

This theory of motivation defines drivers of motivation of an employee which
can be helpful in enhancing employee performance by meeting their needs which
are analysed on different levels (Sousa and et.al, 2019). The needs of an employee
start from basic level which are the psychological needs of employees and such
needs further moves to safety, belongingness, self-esteem and self-actualization
needs.
By meeting these needs, EasyJet can attract, develop and retain talented
employees with the organisation through which they can gain competitive advantage
from their operations and maximize business profitability. EasyJet meet the

Some of the recommendations which can be helpful for EasyJet are stated
below:

detect problems before they occur. This is a valuable skill to have while
working on complex projects with strict deadlines. The ability of a leader to
predict and give answers to future problems is valuable. This ability also helps
you recognise opportunities that others may overlook, which will definitely get
you acclaim.

doing and if you are doing more or less than them (Sutton, 2018). This is
