Introduction.
Political issues such as war and violence increase the poverty level. It is seen that countries with
more violence and political issues have a greater poverty line than countries with less political
issues.

The valid arguments supporting the proposition are:
It is the responsibility of the political heads of a country to provide amenities for the poverty-
stricken section of the society. They have enough resources to support, educate, provide
employment and help them to come out of such a situation. However, the lack of political will
results in the growth of the poverty level. Corruption and misappropriation of public funds are
some of the common phenomena existing in society (Lander, B. G. 1971).
Another valid argument for the proposition is that political disturbance and war can act as a
catalyst in alleviating poverty level. A country busy in wars cannot focus properly on the welfare
of its citizens (Justino, P. 2012).

The arguments opposing the proposition are:
Unemployment has a major role to play in poverty. Unemployment is the result of the lack of
economic growth and not any political issue. A country with a backward economy will have a

lesser amount of jobs to offer to its citizens which will eventually lead to poverty. It is the duty
of the economists to suggest methods for growth in the economy (G. E. et al., 2002).
Another argument against the proposition is the inequality in the distribution of income levels. It
is a common scene where the countries having an unequal level of income tend to suffer greater
rates of poverty. This is because the money is in the hands of the rich, making the poor poorer.

Poverty is enhanced due to poor political governance. Inefficient government while providing
food, health and job fails to the indigents (E. S. 2013).

Poverty is a wide concept consisting of the involvement of both the political and apolitical
factors, namely economic. Both factors have a major role to play in such an effect. With political
leaders showing greater concern and taking effective measures the problem of poverty in the
country can be controlled to a great extent.
