economy. As they share hands in generating huge job opportunities in the society which due to
which directly or indirectly economy of the nation is raised at a rapid scale. In the cut throat
competitive world hospitality, tourism and event sector helps in raising the economy of UK at a
tremendous scale. Due to which UK has become financially strong and politically stable. As
economy has upgraded over the years living standards of the people has raised accordingly. In
this report any one sector out of tourism , hospitality and event sector. For the essay tourism
industry has been choosen and focus is done how this sector raise the economy of UK (Alegre
and Sard, 2015).
Topic: How tourism has contributed towards the United Kingdom economy.
Tourism can be stated as travelling for pleasure or for business purpose from one place to
another. People travel from one place to another or from one nation to another in order to relax,
entertain and also to enjoy their leisure time. While moving across the travel and tourism
companies provides several benefits such as, affordable tour package, solo trips, rooms, food
etc. Whereas, hospitality industry is a wider concept in which facilities such as, accommodation,
food, transportation, beverages etc. so that comfortable stay can be assigned to them. Where as in
event sector the plan is made all of a sudden with fix date and time. For the essay tourism is
choosen and deep study is done on how it contribute towards the UK economy (Dredge and
Gyimóthy, 2015).
Tourism plays a crucial role in raising the economy of the United Kingdom. The
continuous growth and development in tourism sector has created numerous job opportunities
for the society people. Many countries heavily depends on tourism expenses by travellers as it is
the source of taxation as well as as a source of income for business enterprises. Due to which the
living standard of the society has raised as well as purchasing power of the people has increased
at a tremendous scale. Along with this it has shared hands in uplifting export earnings which
directly or indirectly has upgraded foreign exchange earnings. Moreover it has opened several
doors for smaller countries as it is a essential source of diversification. Also, it plays a
significant role in uplifting the aggregate demand of suppliers and aid them to spreading the
business in other places. The customers emerging needs, preferences and demand are fulfilled as

they come up with unique and creative idea (Forsyth, 2016). The biggest advantages of tourism
on UK economy is that it widely promote international connections so that more and more
business and cultural collaboration can be retained for longer time period. In developing
countries tourism is promoted at a large scale so that the revenue gathered can make up
significant proportion of both local, private and national income. Tourism act as a strong bridge
in both local and tourist culture as well spread awareness
In the modern era tourism is developing and flourishing at a rapid scale on the other hand
tourism faces great threat to sustainable growth and development in the cut throat competitive
world. There is huge exploitation of local labour by overseas transnational tourist business as
well as there is tremendous increases in sex industry in many countries. The workers working in
this sector are basically migrants and are facing unbearable poor employment conditions.
However, it has been seen that there is outflow of profits from foreign owned tourist resorts and
very less hotels and resorts are owned and operated by local people in the competitive market
place. However, passengers from cruise ships does not share huge amount of profit in the
national economy. In the 12st century there is raising western culture which has directly
benefited the slum tourism at a tremendous scale in the intance competitive world (Hall, 2015).
Over the years tourism industry is growing at a rapid scale and has created many benefits
for the United Kingdom economy. But there are some drawbacks of tourism which need to
focused so that best outcomes can be attained in the short time duration. The growing tourism
sector is greatly damaging the environmental factor as well as increases the level of risk factor
like, pollution, loss of natural habitats, forest fire and erosion. Moreover, historical buildings and
temples faces struggle to cope up with the day to day raising traffic and come across inevitable
wear and tear. Also, the local culture of the community has eliminated and people are more
engaged in western culture so that more and more revenue can be generated at a large scale. By
doing so economy of United Kingdom has raised but the norms, culture, beliefs has been reduced
(Lee and Jeyacheya, 2015). Moreover it has been noticed that travellers coming from across the
boundaries of the nation disrespect the local culture , abuse traditions and living styles as well as
act in appropriately and behave rudely in the public. All this affect the society and the people
staying in the country also, creates negative impression. The prices of the goods are at high price
near the tourism destination because the shopkeepers charge high rates from the tourist in order

to gain profits. The prices of food, hotels, transportation etc. are highly expensive in nature due
to which local people has to bear the same.
Day by bay raising the infrastructure in the nation are depleting the natural resources and
are creating large pollution. The raising tourism over the years also impact the ecosystem of the
country they chase the birds and animals on their safari and by flashing photos due to which the
ecosystem is badly affected (Mitchell and Stewart, 2015). In order to attract the number of
visitors this sector migrate animals from other region as well as abusing animals for their
entertainment. As the globalization has raised there is free flow of culture it has created many
opportunities as well as has many drawbacks. Tourism spread at a global level has raised level
of crime, deterioration of security, business of prostitution etc. which has impacted the society at
a large scale. By scanning the market it has been seen that tourism has undermines culture by
commercializing as it is connected with raising graffiti, noise and litter. Visitors coming from
other countries does not respect the particular culture and traditions which is does does not
sound good and effective in nature.
In the intance competitive world every kind of business is contributing in uplifting United
Kingdom economy at a large scale. Every coin has two faces same raising tourism development
globally has benefited the UK economy as well as has come accrossed several drawbacks. The
drawbacks has affected the living standard of the people and nation too. Revenue is captured at a
a tremendous scale but on the other hand resources and ancient monuments are depleted at a
large scale (Roberts and Morag, 2017). Tourism need to grow and develop in the global market
accordingly so that resources and revenue both can be accomplished in effective and efficient
manner. By this act tough competition can be created by United Kingdom economy for other
developing nation. Being financially stable is a positive sign as well as welcome other business
to trade globally. So, it can be said that tourism industry contributes towards the United
Kingdom economy (Veal, 2017).
CONCLUSION
From the above it can be concluded that tourism sector has greatly raised the national
economy in UK. It directly leads to raise in living standards of the society as well as has reduced
the unemployment scale to a large scale. However, advantages and disadvantages are studied
deeply so that impact of tourism on United Kingdom can be determined. As well as what
benefits did UK economy received by the growth and development of tourism sector is studied

deeply. So that tactics can be framed accordingly to improve more in this sector. Also, how it
