Subject: steps taken while editing
Respected Sir,
This is to bring to your kind notice that I would like to clarify certain steps that I
follow while editing a piece of writing. The letter would include the brief outline that should
be followed by the editors while editing a write-up. I am writing the letter with the intention
to clarify my way of editing. I intend to propose the steps that I intend to follow while editing
a content. The first and foremost step taken by me is the step of hands off. The entire content
must be read carefully and the mistakes should be recognized. The next step would include
focusing on the parts of speech. I notice the nouns, then I choose more precise terms. I try to
replace the verbs with more compelling words. I sort the adjectives and the adverbs. I never
omit those without any reason. If they are not required in the sentence I usually remove them.
It makes the sentence simple but it makes it more soothing. I sometimes remove the
complicated terms that makes the sentence complex. I remove the scare quotes. A write up
should look good and it should be presentable. Too many words with italics, too many
punctuation marks should be avoided and hence while editing I remove those. I also remove
the informal words. In formal writings the informal words should not be used. The final step I
do is the word check. This is a necessary step according to me. Sometimes I reconstruct the
entire sentence. Sometimes the sentence has a structural flaw. In such case the structure of the
sentence should be changed. Finally while making all the corrections I proofread the entire
writing. I proofread the writing in order to check whether the spellings are correct and
sometimes the matter is not relevant. I re-write few sentences to make it relevant. I delete the
long sentences or sometimes omit few words if they makes no sense after giving a final
reading. This is the way I edit the content.

Naseby Recreation Centre is to get a half-million-dollar spruce up that the local
council announces in the last week.
The council said that it would spend 135000 pounds on a new root for the recreation
center and it would further spend 400,000 pounds on the new and changing facilities and
toilets over the next two years.
These announcements were made when the council of Wellington City unveiled the
annual draft plan for the year 2017 to 2018.
The facilities are needed to deal with the large number of people adjoining in taking
parts in the activities on the fields that are outside as well as inside the center.
