In the study, Riddle explained about the importance of the education in society. He
stated that education is necessary for the betterment of society. Riddle defined the education
importance in Australia. Australian government’s agenda for higher level of education clearly
defines how the country is emphasizing on education to help the people of the society. In this
article, riddle explained education as a public good, the benefits of good knowledge spread
across the society. A good education system helps the society by increasing the employment,
health, social cohesion and economic growth. Whereas, education can also be private
commodity that fits into a system of user-pays. In this study, Riddle has also included the
OECD report ‘Education at a Glance’. This report emphasized on the importance for equity
in the education. Equity in education means having the same opportunity for all the students
so that they can achieve educational success. This was also mentioned on the Gonski funding
review. The article also discussed the mantra of choice and the differences between the
private and the public schooling. The argument is about the parent’s choices over private and
public schools. Parents and children’s are positioned as consumers and the education
institutions are considered as commodities. PISA in focus report highlighted that the mantra
of choice bringing inequality in educational institution. This article also explains how the
effect of encroachment of enterprises in to the education. Inclusion of privatization
movement worldwide has some negative impacts on education for public good, for example
Swedish schools are in the market since early 1990s , yet the students does not have much
educational gains from the institution. They mainly focus on making profit rather than
teaching the students. Lastly, the article explains about the social justice and equity in

education. A good educational institution should always base on providing equal opportunity
to the student so that the student does not feel less motivated and can achieve their goals.
The article was very helpful in understanding the different aspects of education. All
the factors are explained nicely. The only weakness of this article is that the author does not
mention the key topic. Education as social good can be explained in detail, which is missing
in the article.

In the article, Jonathon Sampson, Jay Marlowe, Irene de Haan & Allen Bartley
analyses the experience of young refugee people in Aotearoa. Aotearoa is the Maori name
given for New Zealand. The article brings out a result based on a qualitative study to identify
the factors that affect the young people’s well being from the refugee backgrounds. The
author have employed the segmented assimilation thesis to understand the resettlement
journey of refugees and how the strategy of resettlement shaped the experiences. The
structural analysis analyses how the current policy ignores the nuances of needs for
resettlement and the engagement of young people in to education. The government of New
Zealand is highly focusing on the education level for the refugee background students.
The article has a detailed insight on the refugees of Aotearoa New Zealand. The
article defined the experience of the young refugees and their journey towards the success.
The article also explained how they prosper and developed in the educational system. The
article has covered all the points nicely. The article also contains qualitative studies that
