In the study, Riddle explained about the importance of the education in society. He
stated that education is necessary for the betterment of society. Riddle defined the education
importance in Australia. Australian government’s agenda for higher level of education clearly

article, riddle explained education as a public good, the benefits of good knowledge spread
across the society. A good education system helps the society by increasing the employment,
health, social cohesion and economic growth. Whereas, education can also be private
commodity that fits into a system of user-pays. In this study, Riddle has also included the
OECD report ‘Education at a Glance’. This report emphasized on the importance for equity
in the education. Equity in education means having the same opportunity for all the students
so that they can achieve educational success. This was also mentioned on the Gonski funding
review. The article also discussed the mantra of choice and the differences between the
private and the public schooling. The argument is about the parent’s choices over private and
public schools. Parents and children’s are positioned as consumers and the education
institutions are considered as commodities. PISA in focus report highlighted that the mantra
of choice bringing inequality in educational institution. This article also explains how the
effect of encroachment of enterprises in to the education. Inclusion of privatization
movement worldwide has some negative impacts on education for public good, for example
Swedish schools are in the market since early 1990s , yet the students does not have much

the factors that affect the young people’s well being from the refugee backgrounds. The
author have employed the segmented assimilation thesis to understand the resettlement
journey of refugees and how the strategy of resettlement shaped the experiences. The
structural analysis analyses how the current policy ignores the nuances of needs for
resettlement and the engagement of young people in to education. The government of New
Zealand is highly focusing on the education level for the refugee background students.
The article has a detailed insight on the refugees of Aotearoa New Zealand. The

This article defines the education level of Maori. In last few years New
Zealand government and its health, welfare and educational sector have increased their focus
on the gap between the Maori and the non-Maori. They have also focused on the failures of
the Maori within the society and the educational sector. The review is based on a wide range
of records, teachings, child-rearing practices and from different learning’s. The contact
between Maori and Western European educational system has created tension. Maori
suspected that European education is a tool for the colonial enterprises and the education that
is offered is highly irrelevant and was delivered poorly. The procedure, which the Maori has
adopted for teaching themselves and their children, can be applicable today. Many of the
hallmarks of the education of Maori has proved that operating standard and the traditional
values can be changed into cotemporary contexts.
The article is highly informative and helped to understand about the Maori and the
Pakeha (non-Maori). The article explained the thinking of Maoris about the Western
European educational system. The article explained everything is detailed manner but the
author can also explain about the non-Maoris. The article contains less information about the
non-Maori’s.

I have chosen the above readings as they are very informative and they explained
many new things about the Aotearea. The first bibliography helped to understand the
importance of education and how education can helps the society. It described all the aspects
of the education starting from importance of equity in education to the encroachment of
enterprises into the education. The article also gave me a knowledge about the public
schooling and the private schooling and how the preferences of the people changes. It has
also helped to understand about the inequality that is forming in the educational institution.
The second bibliography helped to understand the journey of the Aotearea towards the
success by analyzing the experiences of the young people from the refugee background, how
they have shifted towards achieving a better education. The third bibliography defines about
the education system and thinking of the Maori and the Pakeha (non-Maori). The above
readings were higly informative and ws covering all my requirements so I decided to chose
this three bibliography for my assignment.
These readings helped me to understand that the education in Aotearoa is improving
and they are highly focusing on the education. It helped me to understand how the current
policy ignores the nuances of resettlement and highly focuses on the education.
They have changed their education level in a huge way and they are developing day b
day. In last few years New Zealand government and its health, welfare and educational sector
have increased their focus on the gap between the Maori and the non-Maori. The areas where
the Maoris are failing are given highest priority. They are providing free missionary schools
to the Maori and non-Maoris. They have also increased the education level.
