Education, core eradicator of racism, ageism and sexism
Are they not supposed to have been buried ages ago? More than often, we come across headlines
on newspapers and televisions concerning racism, ageism and sexism. Why would humanity
need to continue dwelling with such vices that only generate suffering and backwardness? The
very presence of these vices in the education system and the world in general can hinder the
development of ethical and moral systems within students and the society. A time should come
when people from all gender, sexual orientations, ages, races and social background can co-exist
in the absence of being discriminated based on their diversity.
According to (Black & Stone 2005), the human society has long been shaped by inferior
ideologies wherein age gender and race are used to predetermine the state or position in the
society. More so, the use of determinants such as age, gender and race that tend to lead to
sexism, ageism, which broadly entails the prejudicial treatment of individuals in the world based
on their diversity. It is apparently clear from the segment of the society; old men have been given
highest positions while the young women have been burdened with the lowest positions
(Filinson, R. 2008).
This kind of negative interpretation of humanity is what causes foreigners and mixed racial
individuals not to be considered part of the normal sphere of the society. Not until these kind of
vices are solved globally that we can regard ourselves a transformed world. Transformation of
the society can only be achieved when we practically weed out racism, ageism and sexism from
the community. If these vices are not eliminated from the society, then it becomes a tall order to
nature future leaders in such an environment (O’NEILL, B. 2009).

It is worth noting that the human dignity can only be upheld the moment we start viewing others
as equals. Having a globalized mind and being in possession of universal attitude can only be
facilitated through education. Thanks to the introduction of education in our society, which plays
a strategic role in overcoming these adversities. A variety of levels in education plays a role in
the development of strategies to curb racism, sexism and ageism.
According to (Filinson, R. 2008) the focuses that education has taken in teaching of diverse
cultural perspectives do greatly assist in the understanding of the ethnicity of the minority
communities. The initiation of joint educational departments and human rights in addition to the
development of equal opportunity commission projects which entails the analysis of agreements
on the international platforms of agreement of human rights that majorly entail eradication of
race, age and sex discrimination. Introduction of education can largely lead to the development
and establishment of Peace Education Research Centers whose main function is to promote the
relationship between community members thus facilitating co-existence and relations in the
community and the world in general (Black & Stone 2005).
A time has come when education is to be embraced by each person due to its transforming
power. It has proven over centauries that it can turn a society based on unethical ideologies such
as survival of the fittest to a nation ruled with logic and pure understanding of the importance of
upholding human dignity. It is the most convenient and cost effective method of imparting both
the young and old generation on the importance of human dignity which separates and
distinguishes us from animals (Kujawa et al. 2002).
Who does not know that effective communication can only be achieved through understanding
of the message sent to the recipient of the message? Only education can ensure such is achieved.

do also facilitate the eradication of racism. No language is superior to another. Both can be used
for communication purposes. Thanks to education that has also ensured that sexism is becoming
a theme of the past. Females have proven to be equal to or better than men when it comes to
academic performance. Be it known that what a man a woman can do it much better. Even if
some individuals do not acknowledge the fact that education is the essence of transformation, it
is worth noting that education has and will continue opening the minds of society members to see
that we are all equals irrespective of our race, age and sex (Underhill 2017).
