This section is not to exceed 2pagesCurriculum AreaMathematicsYear level: 1Content DescriptorAs per the Australian curriculum, description of level 1In all the three content standards:measurement and geometry, statics andprobability and number and algebra, some proficiency strands like fluency, understanding, problem solving andreasoning plays a crucial part in terms ofmathematical contents (Peacock HillWorking Group. (2017). Theseproficiencies strengthen the workingmethods of mathematics into thecontents and described various ways todevelop and exploration of the content. The language will be provided by themregarding the development aspect oflearning mathematics. This will indicatethe content and embrace theproficiencies.Students and their LDs or challengesAutism spectrum disorder, the studentwas diagnosed with this. He is facingdifficulties in mathematics, because hewas not able to paying attention for alonger duration.Achievement standard ACARA or SACEobjective(only put in the relevant part of thestandard for your Learning objective)As a result of engaging with the unit, thestudents will be able to understand thetopics of mathematics more easily. Thegiven set of study materials was dividinginto two parts, so that the student willnot face any problem in understandingthe topics. The content divided in onehalf was Numbers and algebra. To bemore specific it was Fractions anddecimals (Norwich, B. (2015). The timeslot given for this half will be around 1month. That means 1 hour each day. 10minutes can be given extra because kienwas taking more time in understandingthe topic. The attention span of kien isvery short.1
Learning objectivesBy the end of this unit, students willunderstandthat how to find the number'shalf value. By equal sharing method he will beable to understand the shape and quantity. As a primary student he will understand thebasic difference between half and full withthe help of real life experiences of square andcircle like pizza, cake, paper plates etc. Allthese contents can be used while teachingfraction.By the end of this unit, students willknowthemeasurement and fraction vocabulary. The namingof half to a whole shape or quantity, he will do.Like he will be able to tell the half hour time on theclock.By the end of this unit, students will beabletouse the vocabulary very appropriately. Hewill do the representation of one half withthe help of folding the paper, using one onone correspondence and splitting the objectsinto two pieces. He will easily solve thepractical division problems, and without anymistake he will find out the half hour time onanalogue and digital clock.Essential Questionsopen ended - the Big IdeaConnected to what students should understand- At the first stage we will only use the first halffrom fraction and divisions. i.e. fractions. Forsolving the problem, the real contexts can be usedlike: Watching clock, sharing the objects.Summary of lesson sequence forselected Performance ObjectiveIdentified performance objective(s)lesson 1The aim of this lesson is to improve theability of student to pay attention in theclass.lesson 2In this lesson, the focus is to create thequite environment, which will help thespecial need students to understand theproblem.lesson 3Make proper time arrangements.
