Assigning homework to the students helps in self-learning of the student at his or her own
pace. In a classroom, a student is guided by the teacher to learn new things and gain the
subject knowledge. Once the concept has been learned completely or partially – assigning
homework to the student is critical to test the learned knowledge of the student. In the
classroom – there are various factors that comes to play such as peer pressure,
communication gap with teacher and the other students, lack of initiation by the student,
inability to conform to a peer group, negative coping mechanisms, disruptive classroom
behaviour and related effects on student learning performances. When a task or a homework
is assigned to a student – it stimulates self – learning in the student at self-pace. While doing
the homework, the student will reinforce his own skills, learns how to do his work in a timely
manner and learns time management as well. Kalenkoski & Pabilonia, (2017) aims to
understand if homework at high school level increases academic productivity and increases
academic performance in the high school students1. Transition to Adulthood Survey, Child
development Supplement and Income Dynamics study are the tools used by the study to
scrutinize and analyse the importance of grade points achieved at High School and factors
such as college attendance. The study found out that assigning homework at the high school
level, to the high school students have a positive effect on their performances. Assigning
homework helps in increasing the self-belief, confidence and the responsibility taking attitude
of the student. When a student faces a certain problem in an assigned homework, he is
cognizant of his effort and his shortcomings and this increases reflection abilities such as
introspection and insight in the student which is very important for academic skill
development. After facing a problem while doing the homework – the student can actually
rise his actual concerns to the teacher or on the other hand, the teacher can learn about the
