EFFECT OF INTERIOR LIGHTING ON THE CONSUMER BEHAVIOR IN
RETAIL SPAYS.
ABSTRACT
Many changes prompted an increase in research initiatives in the field of retail design.
The differentiation trend, changes in our economy, and customer buying behavior
toward a more hedonic experience resulted in a different, more complex design
approach. To produce such a design, numerous research fields must be combined. To
Until date, research in retail design with an emphasis on the atmosphere has been
primarily marketing-based, but the difficulty lies in a more holistic approach focused
on a 3D experience. Our goal is to assess the relevance of the retail environment via
the analysis of various retail atmospherics. As a result, responders will be monitored,
and emotions will be assessed using questionnaires. Lighting is highlighted as a first
environment variable; it plays a crucial influence in the overall perception of a place
and, unexpectedly, has not yet gotten the attention it deserves. This article describes
the technique in relation to the notion of design research, as well as the outcomes of
the initial trials. Also, some of the problems and limitations found in researching
moods and atmospherics, mostly due to their holistic character, are explored.
