Effect of Music Therapy on Depression - Research Proposal

This research proposal aims to explore the effects of music therapy on depression. The study will be conducted using a qualitative case control design with a sample size of 10 registered nurses having experience of more than five years in mental health nursing. The research will help in analyzing the perspective of nurses over the effectiveness of the music therapy on depression control.

to complete withdrawal from social life
and suicidal attempts

 Previous research failed to highlight the
nursing perspective of the music
therapy on depression
 The previous research was conducted
over a specific focus group and under
specific experimental set-up
 The global perspective of the effect of
music therapy over the depression is
not conducted so far

 What are the effects of music therapy in

 Independent variable: Treatment or
application of the music therapy over
the service users suffering from
depression
 Dependent variable: Overall outcome of
the service users in response to the
music therapy

 The framework will mainly explore the
psychological and the physiological
parameters effect by music

METHODOLOGY
 Study type: Qualitative study
 Study design: Case Control Study
 Rationale of study design: Help the
researcher in analyzing the perspective
of nurses over the effectiveness of the
music therapy on depression control at
that very point of time

SAMPLING
 Sample size: 10
Inclusion criteria of the sample:
 Registered nurse
 Having experience of more than five
years in mental health nursing
 The willing candidates will be selected
randomly this will help in the elimination
of the selection bias

INTERVIEW SETTINGS
 The date, time of the interview will be
done as per the convenience of the
participants
 The interview location will be within the
hospital premises
 The instrument for the collection of the
interview data: Audio Recorder

ETHICAL GUIDELINES FOR

 Signing of the consent form before the
conduction of the interview
 Securing privacy and confidentiality of
the participants before and after the
interview process
 Securing the autonomy of the
participnats

DATA ANALYSIS
 Data analysis: Data analysis by the use
of the deductive research approach
 Method of display of the findings: In the
format of chart

IMPLICATION IN NURSING
PRACTICE
 Detailed perspective of how the
application of the music therapy is
helpful in reducing the severity of the
depression
 Information will help to increase the
overall knowledge of the nursing
professionals in procurement of the
music therapy
 Results of the research will also help to
design the nursing training for music
therapy in depression control and
thereby helping to improve the overall
