with the Snapchat that helps them in staying connected in the world. Around 95 % of the
teenagers have access to the smartphone and 45 % admit to the fact that they stay online
constantly (Moreno et al. 2015). Adolescents in the present age make use of the social media
platforms so that they can develop career skills. The adolescents can nurture the career skills
with the help of the variety of social media platforms like the Youtube and the Instagram.
The social media platforms facilitates the adolescent in the development of the career skills
that helps them in developing the professional career. The adolescents can nurture the
presentation skills along with the time management skills that helps them in the development
of their professional career. The communication with the friends along with the family causes
the adolescents in Australia to make use of technology. Social media has emerged to become
an important aspect in lives of adolescents in Australia as it helps them in sharing the
interests and exploring the identities. The usage of the social media among the adolescents in
Australia helps them in staying connected to the global communities on the basis of their
interests. This literature review throws light on the role that is played by social media for the
development of the career skills among the adolescents.
Social Media Platforms in the Present Age
There are various kinds of social media platforms in the modern age like Facebook,
Twitter, Linked In, Google +, You tube, Pinterest along with the Instagram. Face Book has
more than that of 1.59 billion monthly active user that helps in connecting people across that
of the world (Huda et al. 2017). Business in the present age make use of Twitter so that they
can carry out interaction with the prospective clients. Linked in is another social media

platform that is used for the purpose of the professional networking. It helps in connecting the
people who are from the similar industries and it helps in displaying the business related

popular in the present age that caters to the need of the small business in the present age. You
tube is the name of the social media website that is video-based that is hugely popular among
the young people in the present age. According to Gandini (2016), the social media platform
of Pinterest makes use of the digital bulletin boards that helps the business in pinning the
content. Instagram is the name of the visual social media platform. This platform has got
various kinds of filters along with the photo editing features.
Social Media use that can enhance career skills among Adolescents
The social media tools have become accessible on Internet in the present age and they
can easily be accessed in the present age with the help of various kinds of applications on the
smartphones. It has been argued by Yonker et al. (2015), that the social media helps the
adolescents in the present age in the arena of social comparison along with the self-disclosure
that has made them popular in the recent age. The adolescents can share the information with
the other people by making usage of the platform of the social media. According to Weinstein
(2018), the adolescents take recourse to the platform of the social media for the purpose of
impression management. It helps the adolescents in highlighting the positive aspects in
relation to their self and it minimizes the characteristics that are thought of to be unattractive

Instagram along with the Tumblr that helps in the development of the youth in the present
age. The social media is used by the youth for various kinds of adolescent development task
that is inclusive of the identity development along with the aspirational development
(Vermeulen, Vandebosch and Heirman 2018). The adolescents strive for the aspect of the
autonomy in the present age that makes them take recourse to the social media platforms. It

employers look for the experience along with the qualifications in the present age and the
social media platforms helps in connecting the employer with that of the employee.

opportunities of volunteering work that can help in building the skill set of the adolescents. It

along with the charities that can help in the professional development of the adolescents

the public speaking that can prove to be of great help for adolescents in the recent age. It can
help in the development of the online presence of an individual that can help a person in the
arena of the job search (Radovic et al. 2017). It can help the people in posting the job
opportunities that can help the adolescents in the present age in finding the suitable
opportunities. The social media helps the employers in reviewing the profile of the candidates
that can aid in the professional development of the individuals in the society.
The social media makes the people vulnerable to acts of the cyber bullying. The
adolescents in the present age become prone to the cyber bullying that takes their mind away
from their career. The personal data along with the privacy of the individuals can be hacked
in the recent age that can lead to loss of the personal life (Vannucci, Flannery and
Ohannessian 2017). The Facebook accounts along with the personal Twitter accounts of the
individuals can be hacked that can prove to be detrimental for the adolescents in the modern
era of technology (Cookingham and Ryan 2015).

The using of the social media is an important part in lives of adolescents. There are
various social media platforms that are used in recent age like the Youtube along with the

recent age that are used by the young people of the recent times. Social media helps the
adolescents in comparing themselves with the other people that helps them in building their
image in the society. Social media is used by the adolescents that helps them in the area of
sharing of information within the broader society. It helps in building the relationship that
