The article that is selected for this assignment is from the “The Daily Express” which
is the national daily Tabloid in the United Kingdome. The title of the article is “Amazon
Rainforest fire: Protests rage as ARMY drafted in - Amazon fire latest news” and is written
by Kaisha Langton. The article mainly contains updates from the wildfire that is raging in
the Amazon rain forest. According to the official report, that wildfire had hit the record high
in this current year of 2019. (Henden, 2019)
In the following article “Amazon Rainforest fire: Protests rage as ARMY drafted in -
Amazon fire latest news”, the writer Kaisha Langton is mainly is arguing that the wildfire
that is raging in the Amazon rain forest is supposed to be the highest this current year of
2019. According to the official reports as stated in the article, around more than 74,000 forest
fires have been located in the current year of 2019 itself. Out of that, 74,000 around 10,000
forest fires have occurred in a span of 48 hour of time period in one week itself. It was stated
in the official reports that around 228 megatonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) has been released
into the atmosphere and in the environment in the current year of 2019 itself. This is being
considered as the highest level of carbon dioxide concentration into the environment since the
year 2010. There was around 83 percent increase in the forest fire in the current year of 2019,
as mentioned by the “National Institute for Space Research (INPE)” through the various
satellite data. Hence, it can be concluded that in the following article, the writer has mainly
using the preposition of official facts and figures in order to make the argument. The
preposition of fact helps in asserting the truth or falsity of some factual matter. In addition,
preposition of facts that are related to climate and environment and the amount of human
influence on the environment, are worthy of consideration and the arguments. Along the
preposition of facts, preposition of value was also used by the author since the environment
and the habitat holds a significant importance in the life of every living being on this earth.
Preposition of value helps in understanding the worth of something.
