INTRODUCTION
Effective communication is basically the process in which the message send by one
individual is successfully delivered as well as comprehended by the recipient successfully. Main
aim of this report is to understand importance of communication in academic context. This report
provides an overview of communication skills and personal reflection.
TASK 1
Communication skills
I have developed as a learner during the entire module which has helped me to improve
my overall communication skills. The communication skills play a great role within the
academic life and thus help to flourish professional career. The communication skills mainly
encompass the ability of people to effectively interact with each other where the message sent
has been interpreted as well as comprehended. Communication is a wider field which has a great
scope and consists of various skills like active listening, non-verbal communication, oral
communication, confidence, clarity, respect etc (Drossman, 2019). There are various skills which
form the pyramid of an effective communication and thus form an important element of the
academic life of the student. The major reason behind developing the as a learner is that it helps
me to increase my learning ability as well as have helped me to increase my knowledge base. I
have developed as a learner during this module through understanding and improving various
communication skills. One of the major communication skill which is active listening is highly
essential within the academic career. Active listening is primarily the ability of an individual to
actively pay attention to what the another individual is saying and understand what is being said.
Active listening helps the students to comprehend the meaning of what is being said by other
people and thus helps them to understand their point of view. In addition to this, it also increases
the overall learning ability of people and thus helps them in the academic life to a great extent. I
have developed as a learner during the entire module by gaining a deep-insight of the importance
of effective communication skills (Beebe, 2018).
Learner has opportunity to learn new things and implement these things in their personal
and professional life. Hence I have been developed as learner in this module so that I can learn

the effective way to interact with others and I can get more career development opportunities in
near future. I always behave enthusiastic that encourage me to learn things and get improvement
within me. I always ask questions on immediate bases to resolve my quarries. This made me a
good learners. Apart from this, I set my goal and schedule my work properly so that I can get
more time to learn new things. I avoid distractions otherwise I would not be able to become a
good learner. All these things made me a good learner.
Another most important effective communication skill which plays a great role in the
academic life and enables the students to excel in their professional career is non-verbal
communication. Although oral communication is main strength of the communication but non-
verbal communication have an equal importance in delivering the message. Non- verbal
communication is basically transmitting the information to the another individual through the use
of facial expression, tone or the body language. The non-verbal communication also plays a great
role in communicating with other students within the academic life. It is highly essential for the
students to have non-verbal communication skills within them in order to better communicate
their message to the other students. This majorly helps the students to engage effectively with
other and thus improve their overall knowledge base. Another major and most important
communication skill which has an imperative role to play within academic life is the clarity.
Clarity for the integral part of communication and mainly relates with clearly delivering the
message having specific goals. This is highly essential for students to incorporate the skill of
clarity within students as this helps them to improve their overall speech as well as helps them to
understand the importance of simplicity and priority. This skill basically helps the importance to
clearly state their message which they intend to say through short and sweet message. This skill
is highly important within the academic life as this helps the students to gain a greater experience
about how to successfully communicate with the people. Thus, in this way communication skill
plays a great role within the life of students and thus helps them to improve their learning skills.
Along with this, these skills also assist the individual within their professional career as by
gaining the skills of effective communication they are able to communicate what they intend to
say which is highly important within the professional life (Fry, Burrell and Samyue, 2019).

TASK 2
Personal reflection
I faced a large number of challenges through the entire academic life as well as event
which eventually helped me to improve my overall performance, behaviour as well as
experience. This entire event has helped me to improve my personal performance as this has
improved my overall communication skills (Skinner, Hyde and McPherson, 2016). This has
helped me to understand the importance of communication as well as enabled me to improve my
interaction with other. This has eventually increased my overall performance. Besides this, not
only performance but this has also allowed me to improve my behaviour towards other people.
This has incorporated a positive behaviour within me towards the other people. Through
improving my effective communication, I realized that each and every individual have their own
perspective and respecting them is highly essential. This has ultimately incorporated a peaceful
and positive behaviour within me towards other people. Along with this, this has also increased
my overall experience of communication. The entire event of the communication has eventually
provided my well-through experience of essential for communication. Along with this, it has also
provided me the proper experience of how to communicate with others and what needs to
consider while communicating (Al-Alawneh and et.al.,2019).
University is expecting to develop skills of each student and I can face issue in near
future that my critical thinking skill is not good. Sometime I failed to evaluate the task properly
hence I failed many times. Hence this could be challenges but I need to work on it so that I can
meet expectation of Universities and can complete each given activity ion time with efficiency.
CONCLUSION
It has been summarized that communication plays a great role within the academic life
and thus helps the students to interact with each other. Reflecting upon one own communication
skills helps the students to know that effective communication skills they lack and in what skills
they need improvement. Improving the communication skills not only help in enhancing the
behaviour of students towards other but it also increases their overall performance as well as
experience. The main advantage of improving the communication skills is that it enables the

students to excel not only in their academic life but also in their professional life. Thus, it is
highly essential for them to incorporate within them.
