1EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILL
Effective communication skill at personal level
The ability to communicate effectively is essential irrespective of what industry the person is
working in. In this digital era, it is needed to know how to convey and receive other’s messages. The
following study, thus, analyzes my own personal description through several theories and
applications along with an S.M.A.R.T action plan.
Identification of strengths and weaknesses of my communication skills is needed. Further, to
be honest, to learn new techniques and achieve fresh insights is helpful for as I work as manager.
This will develop my constructive and positive relationships and must be included in the process to
decrease conflicts and have new supporters. Johari Window model is a useful and simple tool to
illustrate and improve my self-awareness including mutual understanding among various people in a
group. This model is used to analyze and develop my group’s relationship with other teams (Verma
and Pande 2016). Cattell–Horn–Carroll theory, also known the CHC, it is a specific psychological
theory on a structure of abilities regarding my cognitive skills. It is popularly known as the
influential theory to study human intelligence. The Myers–Briggs Type Indicator is a psychometric
questionnaire, developed to weight different psychological preferences regarding how I have been
seeing the world and making decisions. The model of personality is established on four different
choices. They are kinds of social interaction, preference to gather information, decision making and
style of decision making (Brink and Costigan 2015).
SWOT Analysis is one of the efficient tools in the business to look to strengthen
communication skills. This comprises of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Strengths
include loyalty as I work as an employee with long experience at companies. This also includes,
production methods reducing costs. Further, there is rise in quality and mission connected to every

task. The main weaknesses of mine are that arises from negativity from work culture and procedural
oversights (Bovée, Thill and Raina 2016). Moreover, conventional operations never take benefits of
new technologies. For me, opportunities come from scopes of external and counterpart towards
strengths. Next, my opportunities can be compared with strengths to those of competitors and find
what they have been doing. My threats are represents external problems and challenges faced by
companies. Social changes, made by product, look harmful and dangerous. It is also threatening for
my communication.
My strength of loyalty as an employee with long experience at companies is elaborated
hereafter. As I am successful in communicating verbally for a long time, I can pass my thinking and
ideas to others. As I relate to any person, I get more involved towards listening to what I have been
saying. My rise in quality and mission connected to every task can be analyzed by relating and being
an active verbal communicator (Jackson 2014). Moreover, I must be aware of the purpose I need to
express with the quality of delivery. Thus, as I have been analyzing those factors, it made me more
straightforward to get the message around. Moreover, I as a speaker is interestingly more enticing
towards listening. Now, weaknesses regarding negativity from work culture are demonstrated
hereafter. Few problems are developed as I express anything and the receiver interprets that entirely
differently. This can create issues in professional and social aspects of my life. Procedural oversights
denotes where employee friendship can turn into a distraction. This can happen with me as a staff,
spending work hours communicating apart from being productive. Conflict on relationships and
friendships is more disruptive than other kinds of workplace conflicts (de Jager and Brown 2016).
Using S.M.A.R.T Action Plans is an effective approach to understand personal
communication. It refers to the methods to improve weaknesses. It is a popular mnemonic where the
letter stands for specific, measurable, agreed, realistic and time-limited. The “specific” includes

improving of my self-confidence regarding providing feedbacks such that I no longer get nervous to
do that. In the “measurable”, I must stop blushing while people notice them. Further, I must work
out about what has gone well and not so good at conversation. The “agreed” can be explained by an
example. I as a manager must be consulted about wording. Further suggestions can be gained from
personal life to discuss with family and friends (Hall 2017). The “realistic” can be defined by my
current qualities like skills and knowledge. Thus, setting realistic goals helps in fostering my positive
attitude. Through setting a time frame to achieve goals prompts me to set things in motion. This is
defined in “time limited”.
Professionally, as I would apply for jobs or look for promotion with current employer, I
indeed require adapting useful communication skills. The study shows that communication kills vital
for me and never must be overlooked. It is to be reminded that it is never much late to work on
communication skills and improving quality of life.
