Effectiveness of Obesity’s Management Strategies
Introduction
In the current time, obesity is becoming a serious problem globally. There are
many people who are undergoing such condition. The primary aim of the project is to describe
the causes behind obesity and required efforts to give a healthy remedy over the issue in order to
bring good health to both person and society (Rogers, Rines, Motyka, Vine, & Deborah, 2013,
pp. 705-706). The paper includes literature review of the topic that provides a critical evaluation.
The1paper highlights the background explaining the prevalence of obesity and statement of
problem following PICOT questions and template. The paper has critiqued articles based on
obesity in order to evaluate the issue.
Project Purpose Statement
The main purpose of the project is to provide a way for good health to the people and
outline the issues of the obesity among the people (Foo, K. Vijaya R. A, & Ling, 2013).
Overview of the Problem
The prevalence of obesity has affected many peoples world-wide. Obesity is the issue
that is related to weight, height and age of peoples (Wang, Wu, & Wilson, 2013). Increasing high
rate of obesity is the major problem which is arising due to physical inactivity, poor diet, poor
lifestyle and non-adherence to medication. There are 76.8% of people who are ignorant and
indulge themselves in serious health issues like diabetes and cardiovascular complication. Hence,
it is worth exploring the issue in order to find the way to manage it.

Background, Significance and Potential Impacts
In the world significant health issue is concerned with obesity. It is the major reason for
high rate mortality rate. It is estimated that 112,000 people died because of obesity. Obesity is
related with various health issues which includes diabetes, high cholesterol and cardiovascular
complication and many others. The project states a pioneering summary of ways to control the
prevalence of issue globally. Additionally, it provides critical assessment of obesity issue and
provides explanation regarding ways to manage it — also efforts to lessen the death rate that
happen due to obesity (Kahan, 2018). In the potential impact of the project is linked with
improved health condition of the people as they can be able to manage their obesity outline in the
paper.
Goals of the Project
The main goal of the project are:
a) To encourage Individual to bring changes in their lifestyle and include, physical activity.
b) To modify the behavior of people towards healthy living.
c) To plan a proper and balanced diet to improve eating habits of people and
d) To give effective counselling to people regarding the difficulties situation that they may
face in obesity condition.
PICOT Format
P: Patient1or1Population – Working1adults including both male and female.
I: Indicator1or1Intervention – Engage them in physical activity.
C: Control1or1Comparison - Physical1exercise, medical assistance, modifying food habits.

O: Outcome – Low rate of prevalence of obesity and interlinked health issue like heart disease,
incidence of stroke and kidney problems.
T: Time – Four to five month will occur to observe the improvement in health.
Literature Review
As per the view of U.S. Surgeon Generals who noted that the obesity as become epidemic
and raised to high level.
He stated that 31% men and 35 % of women effected by the issue of obesity.
15% of children of 6-15 years of age are affected obesity.
According to Polly Hitchcock Noël (2002), has noted that in the year of 1980s & 1990s
has observed increases in obesity incidence world-wide. The prevalence has not improved in
spite of new approaches of treatment that has caused health experts to doubt whether they can
support their patients. For control of obesity there is the need of population-based strategies in
which doctors can provide effective support. They evaluate evidence-based orientations for
management of overweight peoples and obese peoples (Noël & Pugh, 2002).
Conferring to the Volkan Yumuk (2015), Obesity is such an issue where body fats gets
stored in tissues. It is related to ill health of people and is the major causes for death and
incapacity for adults and children to do ADL. In medical terminology, obesity can be measured
by basal metabolic index and by assessing fats deposits. The author concluded by saying that
health care professional are responsible to diagnose obesity and way to treat and prevent the
issue (Yumuk, et al., 2015, p. 423).

As per Gilles Plourde (2012), there are many article and paper which has demonstrated
ways to manage obesity by encountering various treatment and preventive measures. However,
still the measure are lagging behind to tackle the issue. It is evident from the study that people
are likely to lose weight and advised to do so care and plan provided by physicians. It is noted
that many patients who are obese unable to get psychotherapy to lose weight as primary care.
Author has done systematic review by searching online database like Embase, Medline,
Cochrane and Scopus, using terms like obesity, exercise, loss of wieght, primary care, diet and
psychotherapy (Plourde & Denis Prud’homme, 2012, p. 1042).
With reference to Kushner RF (2018), in 21st century obesity is one of the most
predominant non-communicable issue. Such condition needs patient centered care however
many people prefer medical assistance like medication and surgery. He has stated that obesity is
the long term issue which need weight management by effective medication, physical exercise
and controlled eating. By following the three step management process physicians can provide
effective and active treatments and supports the patients in losing weight (Kushner, 2018).
According to Thomas A. Wadden (2013), Health practitioners encouraged to observe the
change in obesity ratio and gives behavioral therapy in order to lose weight for obesity persons.
In the paper, there is inadequate study on how to bring such contribution in settings and situation
of primary care. In the year 2005, NHLBI issues an application to review the management of
obesity in clinical care. The assessment of interventions related to weight loss is based on
measuring costs and follow treatment model of Centers for Medicaid Services & Medicare.
(Wadden, et al., 2013, pp. 8-11).

Critical Appraisal:
From the evidence, it can be said that there is a likelihood of improving the health
condition of preschool children by giving nutritious foods and physical activity. Through critical
evaluation it is stated that there is obligatory relationship between physical activity and dietary
which is estimated by BMI. People follow the recommendation given by the health care
professional which focus on good outcome of health. Obesity is the health problem in United
States and worldwide which is prevailing in children. The major strength of the evidence
presented in the article gives operative approaches to accomplish the issue of obesity. However,
the major limitation is lack of practical measure to interpret the result. The evidence provided for
the school based intervention and incidence of obesity in them is of moderate level. Intervention
such as physical exercise practice in schools, giving balanced diet plan to children and encourage
to continue such practice in home as well in order to get improved health outcome are also
lacking in communicating with the school authority. However, such evidence have gap in
research as there is no explanation of behavioral therapy. Such therapy have adequate
information about the increase weight and counteractive action of diabetes, but its execution is
not effective. Action taken by the doctors to manage obesity issue must be effective. And the
articles has not given detailed statistical information related to obesity in people. Practical
application of the statistical data are also not stated. It is important for the multi-disciplinary
group to give advice to people, address the psychological issues linked with obesity and deal
patients through online mode.
Summary of the Project
The project has been outline the major issue in health care sector, obesity which has
become epidemic in current situation. Obesity is such an issue which is related to lifestyle of

people. It has caused high death ratio and increase the burden in health care sector. It can be said
the, obesity is an issue which can be measured by BMI and weight of person. Obesity is also
associated with severe health issue such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and high cholesterol.
The project has critiqued some article and used PICOT to analyses the severity of obesity. The
article has given some of the preventative measure which is related to physical activity, diet and
effective medication. However, the article has not stated the psychological issue linked with
obese persons. Therefore, main of the project was to give some measure for better health
outcome to the people. The paper has also stated that obesity in children are one of the major
issue which is becoming the concern area in health care sector. School have to take effective
measures to solve the issue which is still lacking and have no practical implication.
Conclusion
Lastly, from the above discussion it can be said that obesity is becoming a serious issue
worldwide which is effecting the health of the peoples. This project has stated the issue and its
potential impact. Obesity is the harmful impact on the cancer patients which includes ovarian
and breast cancer. There is the need to lose weight but physician are not giving effective measure
to execute it. Therefore, obese person must approach to physiotherapy for physical activity. The
factor such as biological, environmental and social are related to high prevalence of obesity.
Therefore, it is the sole responsibility of every person to find way to manage their increasing
weight. Health practice should also be improvised to lessen the issue related with obesity. Health
care professional must give effective counselling to the patients and educate them regarding self-
management of disease.
