BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONCommunication is of two types, verbal and non-verbal. Verbal communication refers to
the act of information sharing using speech. In other words, verbal communication involves any
interaction that occurs using spoken words. The verbal communications used within a business
company includes staff meetings, personal discussions, formal and informal presentations and
conversations and telephonic discourse (Quintanilla & Wahl, 2018). It takes place outside the
company also in the form of face-to-face meetings, teleconferences, videoconferences, or phone
calls. Strong verbal communication skills of the employees and managers are highly valued in
any organization for efficient functioning, improving the image of the organization, job
satisfaction, security and interpersonal relationships and handling cultural and language
diversities (Lauring & Klitmøller, 2015).
The fundamental factors of effective verbal communication are the selection of words,
active listening, understanding and the way of expressing. As stated by Adler et al. (2015), for
effective communication, one should think and choose the words carefully to have maximum
impact while displaying mutual respect for the other(s). The words should also express the
thoughts, intensions and the objectives clearly and concisely. Thus, transparency in information
sharing is important (Nickolayev et al. 2015). Furthermore, the way of speaking also plays an
important role in setting the tone of the communication and conveying the messages in the right
manner. Pfeiffer (2015) explained that way of speaking must display assertiveness but not
aggression as that would create a negative impact on the listener. The speaker must also be
confident in his words, thoughts and body language for establishing an effective verbal
communication. For example, in a business meeting to propose an innovation for increasing sales
of a product and to get approval for it from the higher authority, the speaker must appear
confident with body language, eye contact and tone. Words should be chosen carefully to
