INTRODUCTION
With the change in the technology there is a multiple change that has been taken place in
various different sector including automobile sector. From petrol / diesel vehicle to electric there
are lots of modification that are being taken place in automobile sector. Car segment has always
in front with the change in technology as with customer taste and demands the automobile
manufacturers modify their vehicle so that they could remain in the market and retain their
market share accordingly. In this research the main emphasis has been given on the electric car
segment which has been accepted worldwide with the rapid change in technology. Nowadays,
various manufacturers are focussing on electric vehicle and slowly shifting towards it by
discontinuing their existing fuels vehicles. In this research the main emphasis on electric vehicles
segment impact in the London automobile market during the period of 2019 -2020 (Abotalebi,
Scott, and Ferguson, 2019).
TASK
Research Aim:
To identify the growth of electric cars in London market between 2019-2020 and its impact on
their sales performance
Research Objective:
To identify the market segment of electric cars in changing technology in London market
between 2019-2020.
To examine the market, share of electric cars in London automobile market between
2019-2020.
Literature Review:
As per the point of view of Paoli and Timur Gul (2022), with the world which is shifting towards
clean energy, there are few areas which are as energetic like the electric car segment. The
segment of such vehicle could be analysed in such a way that during the period of 2012, there are
130000 electric cars which are being sold during the whole financial year worldwide but
nowadays such figure will only be achieved within a week. There is an immense growth over the
period of last three years, even due to Covid 19 pandemic the market of different sector is slow

nowadays such figure will only be achieved within a week. There is an immense growth over the
period of last three years, even due to Covid 19 pandemic the market of different sector is slow
down including market of conventional cars but the market of electric vehicles is continuously
increasing with the regular pace. The figures are the proof that shows that consumer taste are
changing with time. The main reason behind such change could be the acceptance of fuel free
cars that are eco-friendly and the resources which are being limited in the form of fuels could be
saved for other purposes. There is an estimation that there are around 16 million electric cars on
the road at the global map which nearly consumes 30 terawatt hours of the electricity per year
which is equivalent to the electricity that has been generated alone in Ireland. Increase in the use
of electric cars, the oil consumption gets reduced and also CO2 emissions has reduced to during
2021. There are various others factors also affect the segment such as the government support in
the form of subsidy’s to automobile manufacturer, various policies in the form of export and
import of goods by the government etc. However, with the tremendous growth in the segment,
the sales volume is not advancing with the same pace globally. The market of China, Europe and
united states of America has 90% of the sales in the form of electric vehicle but when other
market are being compared such as brazil, India, Indonesia, that figures not crossed in total 2%
of the sales. The reasons for such major fluctuation could be the lack of infrastructure facility in
the form of charging stations and the premium that are being charged by such manufactures
could be the reason.
From the point of view of Carlier (2020), the market of UK is amongst the largest market of
Europe with respect to electric vehicle during 2020. The growth rate in the segment has been
plug in in by 140% over a year. In 2020 the demand of electric vehicle amongst the new car
intenders comes around to 40%. The demand such vehicles whether hybrid, hydrogen fuel cell
vehicles are being eligible for the government grants. The result of which is that the United
Kingdom market came close to 270000 units of sales in the fourth quarter of 2020 with respect to
electric vehicles. Not only the cars the sales figures of Ultra low emission buses and coaches and
ultra-low emission motorcycles are being raised up in the united states. Such shift is considered
to be necessary from conventional vehicle in order to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions in the
transportation sector. Due to such change the policy maker of the United states decides that they
will ban the production of fuel vehicles in the form of diesel and petrol cars by 2030. The best
thing is that Tesla model 3 has been emerged as the bestselling car in December 2020. The
government of United Kingdom are ensuring that 33500 electric vehicle charging stations are
being set out in the whole country in 2020. However, there are only 6000 stations that are being
classified as fast chargers which shows that there is a need for the improvement with the
upcoming demand of electric vehicle so that the demand must have readily infrastructure to
cars that are eco-friendly and the resources which are being limited in the form of fuels could be
saved for other purposes. There is an estimation that there are around 16 million electric cars on

Methodology:
Research methodology is an approach to analyse the data in an appropriate manner. This section
of the report would support the investigator with respect to the data type that has been gathered
and how such data is being analysed in order to draw the conclusion thereof. This helps in
analyses of data or information purely depend upon electric vehicles. It supports the investigator
to conduct the investigation in planned way. The readers of the report evaluate the information so
that its rationality and consistency could be maintained. In the current scenario, the researcher
has used secondary data collection method to carry out the research. Using this method
quantitative data has been gathered from the online sources from various articles that has been
published thereon (Austmann and Vigne, 2021). The source of data which is used for collecting
of data were online sites, articles, etc. The purpose of using this method is to ensure that
authenticity of the data could be maintained and deeper knowledge could be gathered regarding
electric vehicle market sales in UK. The data that has been taken into consideration for study is
number of registration taken place per year in UK for electric vehicles, Number of registrations
taken place monthly in UK and registration on the basis of European union. The data so collected
is between 2019 to 2021 for performing statistical techniques upon them so that interpretation
could be made accordingly.

Figure 1: Graphical Presentation of Cars registered in UK during 2018 – 2021.
Interpretation:
From the above figures it can be concluded that there is a rapid increase in the sales volume of
electric car vehicles from 2018 to 2021 in the UK. This indicates that there is a new headroom
for the car manufactures to make margin in multiple times by rapidly accepting such change in
consumer taste (Li, Castellanos and Maassen, 2018). The shift can be seen from 15510
registrations in 2018 to 190727 in 2021 which shows that consumers are shifting with the rapid
pace from fuel vehicles to electric car vehicles. The another conclusion is also seen that during
2020 when pandemic affects various sectors and industry, the market share is again increasing
with 108205 registrations as compared to previous year there are only 37805 registrations.
Further, it could also be seen that on an average there are 88073 cars that are being registered
during the period of four years.

Interpretation:
The above statistics shows the comparative study between 2021 and 2022 month wise for the
sales figures of electric vehicles of United Kingdom. The conclusion could be made that the sales
volume has increased in 2022 by nearly 30% as compared to 2021 month wise which indicates
development of electric vehicles segment in the future. The highest sales recorded in the month
of May in 2022 with 15448 units are being registered while in 2021, the highest sales recorded in
the month of March that is 22003 units are being registered. This shows that people are taking
interest on regular course of internal and there is no specific month in which they are purchasing
the vehicle. That will create advantage for the manufacturers in UK to maintain their regular
production capacity throughout the year for earning more profit.
Discussions:
On the basis of literature review and data that has been gathered above, the conclusion could be
drawn that there is positive impact on UK market with respect to Electric vehicle. The results
arrived by implementation of descriptive statistics shows a major headroom in automobile sector
for such new product and it will overcome others fuel products globally with the passage of time
(Costa, Barbosa and Lanceros-Méndez, 2021).
