Introduction
The building is a commercial building covering an area of 1478ft2. This building
comprises of 6 levels, where there are two basements, (mainly used for parking), a ground floor, and

spaces are lettable spaces with specific locations for kitchenette, storage areas, toilets (for gents and
ladies) and one for the persons living with disability, and a community centre. With the mantra of
saving power (Khatri, 2016), the design, and installation shall adopt the LED system. On power
installation, there shall be outlets for air conditioning system and the same shall be considered in the
load calculation, the same as the basement where the water pump shall be installed to pump water
from the underground tank, as well as the mechanical ventilation, to condition the air in the basement
at the same time drive away the fumes. Table 1 shows the specific light fixtures and equipment used
at different areas of the building. After the determination of what goes in where, what is installed
where, the load requirement is then taken into consideration with an aim of determining the apparent
power or (kVA), different from Kilowatt (kW) (Power Electronics, 2015). The kVA is determined
after considering the demand factor, see Table 2, which is what is utilized in the building (Jignesh,
2011), in our case, the demand factor is 70%. This is the power that can be used in cable sizing and
back-up power consideration.

When calculating the loadings of the office spaces, we have to consider what each load
has in terms of power, while doing this we must know that we are using a 3-phase system, so there are
some load that will be connected to a single phase, like the sockets, the hand dryer, the lights etc, but
the HVAC or air conditioning, shall use all the three phases, so we shall consider a HVAC system that
is rated 3-phase, see table 3. After this, we are able to determine the loadings, which has been
displayed on the schematic, such that we know that each phase carries what amount of load, shown in
the figure 1.

so the load requirements have to be predictive. The distribution boards have to be installed at the
spaces so that whenever a tenant comes, they are able to tap from them and get their power for
whatever business they will have. The blue markings on the screen shot drawings are the distribution
boards and the red one is the MSB since it must be located at a duct. But each floor shall have a sub-
board where the distribution boards will feed from. It is important to note that the fixture like light,
