Introduction
Advances in healthcare practices have led to an exponential increase in data processing
capabilities. Management of vital patient information has proven to be a challenge for nurses
and other healthcare practitioners. Electronic health record keeping has transformed itself in
healthcare organizations to improve and enhance on the quality of care and safety among the
patients. Electronic healthcare systems are geared towards enhancing and facilitating optimal
patient management, it has improved to revolutionize patent access information data. In parts
of Europe, usage of electronic health records has been effective in improving access and
enhances communication between high volumes of clinical data and aid easier retrieval
process, (Persell et al., 2011).
Among nurses, usage of electronic health records plays a crucial role in improving care
services. It allows easier access to patient data and information. Further, it has led to improving
time management in delivering care. The nursing practice committee has often made a
consistent recommendation on the evidence-based practice which entails accurate and timely
access to patient information to inform care decisions, (Lavin, Harper & Barr., 2015). This
systematic review assesses the effect of electronic health documentation on nursing practice.

Methodology
The study employed a PICO search strategy to gather the literature review. PICO is an
evidence-based framework which crucial in healthcare practice. The key components include;
Population; Nursing work practice
Intervention; Electronic health records
Comparative; No electronic health records
Outcome; Positive nursing practice
The literature search was undertaken using the Pubmed database with keywords of
‘Electronic Health Records' and ‘Positive Nurse Practice ‘ being used as search key terms.
