1) What conflicting values are evident in this case?
In this case, it is seen that Benjy’s is struggling against online business that
are already selling electronics at lower price. The conflicting values here are
whether to continue with the same brick and mortar traditional business or
to make changes to sustain in the market.
2) What advice would you give the Board of Benjy’s about a way
forward that resolves the values conflict?
To resolve this conflict; Benjy’s can start its own website and cut down cost
on showrooms. In this way, it will be able to provide products at competitive
price. It can take advantage of its showrooms by asking customer to see the
actual product and buy them through their website.
3) What management competencies do you believe this case
highlights that are important for the 21st century leader-
manager in VUCA world?
The management competencies required in 21st century in VUCA world for
the manager are that leader should be people first leader, but tough on
outside and firm in decisions but with a tender heart. The leader – manager
also needs to be comfortable in making decisions in this VUCA world. In
addition, another competency is that the leader needs to be a fast learner,
flexible and can connect with people and nurture them.
