INTRODUCTION
Emerging technology refers to an innovation of anew technology and also to the
development of the existing one by adding some modifications in it. Innovation is a process of
discovering a new ideas and techniques in order to develop a product, technology and service.
Emerging technology is a relative term to the innovation process as both the terms posses same
objectives. This report will highlight the concept and use of Iris Scanner as well its importance.
The report will also highlight the impact of Iris scanner technology on different industries and
sectors.
TASK 1
About the Technology
Iris Scanner is a device that uses visible and infrared light to take a high-contrast
photograph of a person's iris. It is the best method for biometric identification and s more
accurate than fingerprint identification (Yigitcanlar, 2017. ). The reason behind this accuracy is
that the iris of a person never gets injured and virtually it remains the same as in case of initial
scan as well as no contact lenses and eye glasses could affect the scan. Thus, it makes it easy and
reliable to identify the identity of the person by using iris scanner.
Features and working of the Iris scanner-
 Iris Scanners perform the biometric recognition of a person's identity.
 Iris Scanners are used as a device for security in various industries and sectors.
 Iris Scanner measures the unique pattern of a person's iris and coloured circles in people's
eyes.
 Iris scanner illuminates the iris of a person with an invisible infrared light for noting
down the unique patterns that are not visible to the naked eyes.
 Iris Scanner detects and excludes eyelashes, eyelids and other specular reflections that
blocks the parts of the iris.
 It stores the pattern of eye lines and colours and analyse it to extract a bit pattern that
encodes the information in iris.

 It compares and digitize this bit pattern for comparing it with a database for verification
and identification.
 Iris scanners can be used in the form of Iris scanning cameras mounted on the wall or
through its device that scans the eye of a person.
 Iris scanners can collect about 240 biometric features and create a digital representation
of that data.
Arrival time of the technology in the market and its cost.
Iris scanning technology is already available in the market and the biometric technology
has been initiated by the Australian government at their airports since 2015 and the overall
budget for the technology amounted to AU$93.7 million (Xu, 2018, July). However, the cost
varies according to the device as for instance a small single iris scanner costs about AU$183.
Industries and sectors to be affected by the technology
Most importantly the basic purpose of the iris scanning technology is for the
identification of an individual and his data as well as for the security and privacy purpose. So the
industries will be affected will be-
Mobile manufacturing industry- As due to the increase in the use of cellphones and the rise in
the smart feature's technology in it, there is a tremendous growth in the demand for the security
in it. Iris scanner technology when being used in the cell phones can avoid the threats of
cybercrimes, identification of various criminal suspects through it (Briggs, 2015). The scanner
will also be used as a tool for various password protected applications in the cell phones. This
will benefit the industry to maintain the security of the cell phone devices as well as adding up
more secure components and features that will help them to serve their customers better through
the product.
Service industries- Various service industries will be benefited by this iris scanning technology
such as banking sector, travel and tourism industry, hospital industry etc. In case of banking
industry the banks will use iris scanner to maintain the record of its customers and the account
holders as a result the records will be more secure and there will be no longer process of
identification in case of fraud or criminal activity as well (Nugraha, 2016 ). There would be
systematic management of the customer's data and their personal information through this iris

scanner. Iris scanner will also be used in the ATMs for the security purpose and accordingly
provide the banking industry a high level security for its service. Another impact in case of travel
and tourism industry as mentioned above in the report the main utilisation will be at airports by
the Australian government so that the travellers need not show their passport at various
checkpoints and as their identification will be clearly verified in the iris scanner cameras. Also,
this will posses a security advancement in case of various security components and will save the
time of the authorities at the airport to manually verify the travellers (Rana, 2019). Iris scanner
will act as a check-in device for the travellers and can be used for the security purpose as well.
Further, as in case of the hospital's iris scanner will be used for the identification of the patient's
data through its scanning and also maintain the systematic records of the patients without any
manual work.
Business organizations- Iris scanner be used as biometric device in the business as it will
serve as a tool for noting down the monthly attendance of the employees in it (Welinder, 2016).
This will also give an accurate information regarding the timings and arrivals of the employees at
their jobs.

As due to changes in emerging global world various new technologies are invented to
catch the fraud person. In this case a new technology are innovated named as IRIS Scanners and
recognition. This is mainly useful in field of airport work. As management in airports are very
strict and no person can fraudulent travel if they are already in wanted list of police. The purpose
to bring this new technology in market is related to recognizing or identifying the individual
identity through various pattern and vision on eyes (Aloudat, 2016). To make the judgement
relating to technique it involves various ways to recognise this technology by computer vision,
pattern to recognise the identity and Optics used to analyse the system in the body.
As In today's time everyone is implementing this concept to provides safety and security
to the society. As Science says that every person eye are different and covered with colour rings
which named as IRIS exactly like the thumbprint as every person have different thumb which
cannot be matched with other person. But to recognise the way of IRIS, it examined through size

of pupil. As this method is harmful for eyes which reflect their eyelashes and visibility at the
time of seeing.
At the time of using this method the passengers need not have to present their I'd card or
any other documents which address his proof of living. These techniques easily recognise the
identity and their existence in the world. If the iris recognition used with other biometric
technique than it results in giving 100% accuracy to accomplish the objective (Agidi, 2018). The
special features which it carries is it can scan from 10 cm far away with that person. If lot of
people are travelling through airports and the security in charge can't track through biometric
than Iris recognition is the best way to track the person existence and if they are guilty under any
crime. The reason behind to invent this technology is that they can easily reach to the people who
had transplanted their face. With this strategy they can be easily identifies the person who are
into this activity.
As in comparison to other biometric system it is comparatively cheaper and also is results
are more accurate. Airports are the most engaged and busiest areas and also high security are
needed for the protection of regular travellers (Nugraha, 2016 ). Usually many fraud cases occurs
in airports only. As it is the easy way to travel from one county to another. So airport security
holders apply strict techniques to safe the customers interest towards airport travellings by
adopting this new and innovative technique. This technology affects the working of the business
to innovate new techniques. As if they already using the updated technology which can easily
identify the person identity and their status in the world. Many business deals with such activity
to promote their business and bring new techniques in the market and if they related to iris
technology than it affect their biometric way to recognise the person identity.
In case related to medical factor this technology had a greater impact on business as the
medical facilities are run through patience diseases and if any individual want to transplant their
face they can be easily recognized through their eyes retina. So in this way it affects the business
in medical filed (Briggs, 2015). The individual have the least trust on this method as they can't
take risk to apply this strategy. As per the previous view this technology is beneficial to the
society. As it bring some good ideas and thought to that person who are thinking to cheat the
security guards of the airports. As people are more happy as they didn't have to carry so much
proof at the time of travelling. People are always worried that there are chances of theft and loss

of I'd cards and passport at the time of travelling. By this method they are free from such things
and no result in losing this original proof which they carry.
From this evaluation, the critically analysis is made on the basis of security and safety of
airports in the country. It is based on quick and faster way to identify the individual identity in
the airport at the time of travelling. Currently it is considered to be the most accurate concept and
mostly liked by people. There concept and the technology which is used in airports are still
evolving and maintaining the more accuracy to fulfil the main purpose for which it is
implemented. As per the study it can be analysed that person can hide their face through stalls
and other clothing but their eyes can be easily recognized whether if they search for these seats
or enter into the lounge or walk around airport (Nugraha, 2016 ). The eye recognition can be
done at any time if they enter in the airports. As passengers are frustrated to deal; with such
activity to provide proof of this identity but by this method they can easily travel if they are not
guilty or not committed any crime.
Self Evaluation Report
As per the above study it is critically evaluated that iris recognising is the vest way to
provide safety and security in the airports. To innovate this concept in market it challenges the
previous recognising method which analyse the individual identity and their stability in the
global world. It also identifies that this method restricts the crime in the world. As many people
prefer to travel to airport to reach their destination with less time and that the result of mostly
crime committed in that areas. The major concept to use this technology is they can easily
identify the terrorist with this method (Xu, 2018, July). Many individual change their identity
and then travel and by implementing this method no one can misuse the power of right to travel
in this respect. This innovation slightly affects the eyes but the traveller can travel safely and
stress free with this concept. It is also evaluated that this is the time consuming concept and it
matches exactly the same data which is mentioned in their original I'd cards and passports.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it is studied regarding the concept of emerging technology and
innovation. The report focusses on the nature of the technology and its use as well as its working
pattern through different components. Further the report has explained the features of the
technology being used and its working. The report also shows the availability time and the cost

to use this technology in market mentioning an appropriate example for its use. Lastly the report
concludes by showing the impact of the technology on various industries such as manufacturing,
service industry, business and several other factors that are affected due to it.
