Introduction
Bullying may happen when the child is picked on by the other child or the
group of children. It is the kind of behaviour which frightens or hurts the
less powerful person and often forces the person to do something which they
do not want to do it. Bullying may affect the physical, mental or emotional
condition of the people and lead to problems and even death. The children
who are bullied are more likely to experience the depression, damage to self
esteem and even anxiety. This PPT shall cover the concept of bullying and
emotional cost of bullying in the schools.

Concept of Bullying
Bullying in schools refers to one or the more perpetrators who has great
social and physical power than the victim and act so aggressively towards the
victim by the physical and verbal means. Bullying has to be a repetitive and
habitual and not one off episode. It can be defined as the aggressive behaviour
which directed towards a single goal to harm or injure the other person who is
also motivated to prevent such treatment.

Characteristics of bullying
Bullying is the sub category of the aggressive behaviour which is
characterised by the hostile intent, imbalance of power and repetition over
the period of time. It causes distress to the victim and motivation is also
added in it. Some characteristics of bullying includes the following-

Why newspaper article is chosen
The newspaper articles reveals the harsh reality of the society where bully can
cause serious mental issues and trauma to the students. The children faces mental
health problems at their very early age which lowers their morale and confidence
in learning at early age. The first newspaper article reveals the survey conducted
in 2019 that mostly the 12-18 aged people are bullied in schools which causes
emotional distress to them and as a result they leaves the schools and learning
very early.

Consequences of Bullying
Bullying can have detrimental effects on the health and behaviour of the
children. The consequences of bullying is discussed below-
 If a child is constantly bullied, they may feel insecure and on the guard.
Even if they are not bullied actively, they believe that it can start anytime.
This is one of the majort emotional and mental impact where the child
becomes isolated, unaccepted, withdrawn and angry.
 The child may face physical consequences like physical injury or any long
term effects such as sleep disturbance, headaches or the somatization.
These are difficult to recognise as it is linked to past behaviour of bullying
verses the result of other causes like anxiety.

Control of bullying
There are mainly two methods to control the bullying which
includes prevention and reaction. Preventive solutions are
discussed below-
 Education
 Security technologies
 Guards in school
The reaction solutions are illustrated below-
 Parental response
 Psychological support
 Reports of witness

Institutional prevention
The studies have shown that the bullying programs which are set up in the schools
with the involvement and engagement of the faculty and staff have reduced the
bullying and peer victimisation. The incidents of the bullying can be reduced when
the students themselves disapprove for bullying. Moreover, the activities in
classroom increases the communication between staff and students which reflect
the decrease in case of bullying.
Section 89 of the Education and Inspections Act of 2006 provides that the
schools must made available to the parents the Anti bullying policy.

Conclusion
It is conclude from the above PPT that bullying is that behaviour which threatens
or forces the less powerful person to do something which it does not want to do.
The students faces the bullying in schools which frightens them and places adverse
effects on them. There are different types of bullying which includes direct, cyber
and rational bullying. The newspaper articles are discussed in the PPT which
provides how bullying is creating adverse consequences on the students which
may even gets worst when the students dies due to bullying.
