Executive summary
Emotional intelligence is the capacity to control, cope and understanding of individual emotions.
The purpose of this report is to know the issues of emotional intelligence and in what way these aspects
are linked to an effectiveness of leadership. Emotional intelligence is a key to success of individual as
well as professional life.
The report contains the introduction of the emotional intelligence and various components of
the emotional intelligence which perform a main character in people’s life if they have great score of
emotional intelligence. If people do have emotional intelligence, they can learn it as it can be taught by a
person.
The influences of emotional intelligence in the report can be related to leadership effectiveness
and many ways are provided to persuade that an individual had emotional intelligence. This report is
based on the journals, books and internet sources.

Introduction
The report reneges about the emotional intelligence. An emotional intelligence is the key
to both professional and personal success. In this report, the concept of an emotional intelligence
will be discussed. Emotional intelligent report enhances teamwork by recognizing and
understanding the emotions of team members. There are various factors of an emotional
intelligence that assist to an executives of a business or company to know the facts, influence and
circumstance of the emotional intelligence within the person or group of person. The factor
which will be discussed have link to the leadership effectiveness. Furthermore it investigated that
emotional intelligence can be educated by arranging various seminars or sessions for the people
or group of people. Along with this a boss in the organization adopts various techniques or ways
to convince the people which they have emotional intelligence within them.
Emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence refers to skill or capability of a person to control and cope their
emotions and have the ability or capabilities to resist the emotions of another individual as well.
In other words it can be said that they can influence the emotions of other individuals also (Peter,
Et al, 2010).
Emotional intelligence is an essential leadership skill. It is expressed that to have major
element like self-regulations, self-awareness, empathy, motivation, social skills. It is what that
helps individuals to communicate clearly, lead other individuals and create strong relationship at
workplace and in their personal life. There are following characteristics of emotional
intelligence:
1. Identify what an individual is feeling.
2. Individual can know how to interpret their emotions.
3. Understand how individual’s emotions can impact others emotions.
4. Individuals can regulate their emotions.
5. Manage other people’s emotions (Pool, Et al, 2018).

Some individuals generally inherit high EQ but it is a skill which they can practice and
develop. By practicing the behavior of emotionally intelligence their brain will adapt to create
these behaviors automatic and replace behavior less helpful. There are various qualities of people
with high emotional intelligence:
1. They are not sticklers.
2. They know in what manner to balance their work life.
3. They hold change.
4. They do not get simply distracted.
5. They are compassionate.
6. They recognize their strengths and weaknesses.
7. They are driven.
8. They do not reside in the past (Petrides, Et al, 2018).
Factors of emotional intelligence
The various emotional intelligence factors are:
1. Self-awareness: first important emotional intelligence factor is self-awareness. It means
knowing the individual’s emotions, strength, needs, weaknesses and drivers. Individuals
with self-awareness are keen to see themselves more effectively and also they are
welcoming to receiving the feedbacks. This can better understand by taking an example
of a great leader, Bill gates. He focuses on creating a culture of honesty and integrity
within his company. He is frank and honest with his opinion. He voice out the
management if he finds difficulty to understand the reason behind the decisions taken on
behalf of him. He has ability to pinpoint the individual’s personal values.
2. Self-regulation: this is the ability to rationally control the behavior of individuals in spite
of the emotions individuals may be feeling. Bill gates, great leader conduct the elaborate
plans to their illicit actions as he is the honest leader towards the working. He is able to
self-regulate his actions and not make rush decisions so in today’s volatility, complexity,
uncertainty, ambiguity environment, it is essential that a person is able to self-regulate
their actions and make favorable decisions. It also helps the individual to able to roll

along with the variations, append decision and eventually derive the meaning and reason
behind each variation (Minbashian, Et al, 2018).
3. Motivation: it is the intrinsic value which builds a cycle of humility and continuous self-
reflection which will lead to self-growth and development. The Bill gate is seen as the
passionate leader who works beyond the compensation of money or status (Santos, Et al,
2018).
4. Empathy: empathy is the ability to read and understand non-verbal cues which emanate
as of their social relations. Bill gates as a leader shares the worries of his staff and
deliberately act on comforting everyone. This in turn will create an environment of
comradery and trust over a period. In a global economy, it is empathy that will allow
them to communicate away from culture and language. The organic reactions to the
emotions are spontaneous and organic across limits. With a high grade of empathy, they
are in a well position to cooperate with global partners notwithstanding barriers of culture
(Ros, Et al, 2018).
5. Social skill: social skill is an accumulation and a mechanism for act of the previous four
factors of an emotional intelligence. A Bill gate who is highly skilled socially has a huge
network available to them as he is the owner of the software company. This not to say
that he is constantly socializing. He realizes the important limitations of a single person
and in spite of make connections such that he has an available connection or network to
hit into for all the situations. Thus social skill is seen as the essential cog in the
application of the above four factors to elevate emotional intelligence.
Ways of factors linked to leadership effectiveness
Emotional intelligence is broadly identified as a key component of effective leadership. The
Emotional intelligence for leadership and management can include five qualities: self-awareness,
empathy, self-management, effective communication and relationship management. The linkage
of above factors to leadership effectiveness:
1. Self-assessment: it is defined as having capability to recognize the self-emotions,
standards, strengths, and drivers, weaknesses and considerate its effect on others.
Deprived of reflection leaders cannot rightly know who they are, why they make definite

decisions and what they are good at. The self-assessment leads to effective leadership as
it helps to boost their credibility in the employee’s eyes. They observe that they are
willing to recognize and address their self-weaknesses and insufficiencies and not just
blame peoples. This improves the opportunities of the organization reaching its desired
target (Miao, Et al, 2018).
2. Self-regulation: it is known self-control. It involves the redirecting and controlling their
3. troublesome emotions and gets used to change situations in respect to hold team moving
towards the favorable direction. Due to this, leader cannot lose their cool or calmness.
When they take on a leadership role they cannot go dread when things are hectic. When
they stay cool or calm and optimistic they can think and connect to their teams more
effectively (Keefer, 2018).
4. Empathy: to increase the efficiency and performance, leaders develop the ability to
demonstrate the empathy. Empathy enables the leaders to connect with their people so
that they can inspire, motivate, lead and envision others to the greater effectiveness of
leadership. By having empathy, a leader can support team with sensitivity or compassion.
The suggestions to have and display of the empathy is a vital part of leadership.
5. Relationship management: it helps in effective leadership as leaders cannot make deep
relations with the other people if they are unfocused. Several have families, other
responsibilities but making and upholding healthy and effective relationship is important
to individual’s capability to gain greater emotional intelligence. It helps to connect
effectively and correctly manage the relations with the aim of move the team in preferred
direction (Dev, Et al, 2018).
6. Effective communication: effective communication among the leader and the team
members improve the dangerous work affairs and making the productive workplace,
healthy and the culture of organization. This leads to effective leadership and results in
association and a common sense of purpose.
Emotional intelligence can be taught?
The statement is correct; an emotional intelligence can be learn and taught. By arranging
the emotional intelligence sessions, the emotional intelligence can be taught to upsurge the skills
of people in knowing, expressing, investigating and adapting its emotions. Every session

involves of short time lectures, exercises of part playing, readings and debates. For instance in an
exercise of part playing, three or two people pretend to be partners or colleagues in the thick of a
disparity, after interaction of them, the group of people discussed in what way better they tackle
the difference, then the people can ran over and done with an exercise again to discover more
effective or favorable ways of expressing those emotions (Peter, Et al, 2018).
All people are also provided a diary in that those people inscribe about the regular
emotional knowledges. Then people have to examine these skills in workplace under they have
been learning in the session of training (Kotsou, 2019).
An individual in groups are tests before, directly after and six months after the session of
training to get if their emotional intelligence has enhanced. After months, people who have
attend the session and received the training show that essential development in their capability to
recognize their spirits and the outlooks of other people and to control and manage their feelings
or emotions. Moreover these developments are obvious not only correct after training session but
also after months.
The aim of the teaching the emotional intelligence is to increase or promote the self-
awareness, self-arrangement, awareness of others people, and regulation of others, empathy and
social skills within the people. The trainers develop the programs which focused on each of the
people emotional intelligence competency (Pekaar, Et al, 2018).
The findings suggest that it is likely to raise emotional intelligence in long and short
period.
Ways used by a boss to convince a person regarding emotional intelligence
A boss would convince a person that they had emotional intelligence by telling different
positive points of him/he that is:
1. They maintain their emotions better than most: a boss convince his person by making him
believe that he has self-control and self-competence as they can manage the emotions and
behavior to a positive negative result. He said the once people control or manage their
emotions they can sustain safe, fair environments. They have capacity to be calm during
the high stress period (Darvishmotevali, Et al, 2018).

2. They know themselves at their core: he also said that the person knows themselves at the
core which is a best barometer for gaging their own happiness and can create
unbelievable growth. It is most often that a person ignore his feelings, personal care what
makes them tick what pushes them buttons and what triggers will set them off
(Bekerman, Et al, 2018).
3. They respond instead of react: he makes their people believe that they started responding
to the situations occurs instead of reacting on such situation and take no action (Lea, Et
al, 2018).
4. They are the first to reach out after an argument: they are the person who reach out to
make amends even they apologies first. They wonder the courageous and humble act.
They do not try to cut off the people from their lives as they main relationship and great
work connection which shows that they had emotional intelligence (Teal, Et al, 2019).
Recommendations
There are some recommendations for the emotional intelligence report:
1. Emotional intelligence as intelligence must provide important aptitude which can be
equivalent viewed as an IQ.
2. Emotional intelligence must be main criterion specifically to the extent which a position
requires leadership.
3. Emotional intelligence as combination of learned abilities must allow or permit for
examining in what way a people has adapted to their environment that can be seen as a
result measure.
4. Emotional intelligence as the traits must provide vision into in what way individual filters
and directs their emotional aptitude.
5. Emotional intelligence competencies must entail emotional abilities in adding to the
purely cognitive capabilities, ways of learning which work better for technical skills or
academic skills.

From the above study it is concluded that emotional intelligence is the single best analyst
of performance in the organization and the strongest driver of leadership and the self-
development. By using the emotional intelligence the abilities to develop more trusting, strong
relationships in an organization is increased. In the above report, the study of emotional
intelligence improved the internal relations and deepens the sense of self-fulfillment and
professional accomplishment. Thus the emotional intelligence is the important skill for
professional success, performance of job, facing of job challenge, satisfaction of job, motivation,
organizational commitment, career growth and complete effectiveness of the working of
employee in an organization.
