graduating from University and outline some of the things that you can do to overcome these
challenges”.
Start 500 word report here.
The new graduates who have recently passed from the university face a number of challenges in
the field of employment. The most important thing is that the students have no idea about their
real life experiences. They get all the theoretical knowledge from the universities but what they
lack is the practical knowledge to deal with the life and the challenges of life. Another challenge
that they face is regarding the lack of maturity (Stewart, Wall & Marciniec, 2016). Since they have
no proper idea about the working world and the professional world, they know not how to deal
with the same. This makes them judge every situation with the help of emotions. The students
often have unrealistic expectations from the professional world and from their upcoming jobs
where on the other hand, the scenarios are entirely different. Moreover, as per the discussion of
Abel, Deitz & Su (2014), the newly graduates have no idea how to negotiate with the salaries or
the benefits. The students also have poor interview skills as they do not have proper experience
regarding the same. Apart from all these, the most vital challenge that the students face is that they
have no proper direction and they remain confused about their life’s decisions. Apart from their
personal challenges, the new graduates do not get the proper job opportunities. Lack of the job
opportunities make them feel a misfit among the other employees and they often get rejected in
the way. Since there are low rates of employment, the job offers are often not available for the
fresh candidates.
In order to overcome the challenges, the universities or the colleges can conduct coaching
regarding the interviews and teach the students how to face the real world, and how to deal with
the interviews. Moreover Holmes (2015) discusses that the graduates can be offered the
opportunity of summer internships. This can give them a small experience of the professional
working world where they could learn how to be presentable. Summer internships could also help
the graduates choose their path and decide what they want to do in the future. Since they remain
confused regarding their life’s decision, the colleges can offer career counseling seminars and
conferences, where different eminent people of the professional world can provide sessions and
help the students by answering their queries and problems. Apart from this, the students should be
practicing more on their strategies and their skills so that they can easily overcome any of the
challenges. Believing in themselves is another most important way that can help them to overcome
their challenges and get accustomed to the new world. Being afraid is not a solution. The new
graduates should improve their communication skills so that they can easily communicate with the
outside world and put forward their side of the argument. The graduates should be taking advices
from the parents, their elders and most importantly their seniors because they also have been a part
of the same journey and they can be the best ones to guide the students . This would help them to
overcome their challenges (Jackson, 2014).
