INTRODUCTION
Employability skills can be defined as those skills that an employee is expected to
possess to get a job. It helps them in dealing with their personal and potential easily. These skills
determine the capabilities of particular person working in the company. These skills include time
management, teamwork, self-motivation and leadership quality, etc. They are considered as an
essential element for getting a job in company. It is always considered compulsory for the
individuals to gain some skills so that their efficiency increases. Companies also organise various
types of programs for employees so that their learning is never stopped. This report is based on
health and social care sector. The organisation chosen here is Wellington Hospital. It is the
largest independent hospital in UK and also a part of HCA international hospital group. This
hospital is very famous for its cardiac services, neurosurgery, liver and HPB medicine. It is
located in London. The main aim of making this report is to access the skills, responsibilities,
performance of managers of hospital, solutions to work based problems and role of individuals in
a team for achieving objectives of company.
TASK 1
1.1 Own responsibilities and performance objectives
Taking responsibility for completing a task is considered as a one of the major thing that
an employee learns in the company. If the employee is taking initiative for competing a
particular task then he makes a good image in company. Wellington hospital is the leading
hospital in London and they are serving so many patients at one time. As a manager of
Wellington Hospital, I know that it is very difficult to manage such a big organisation in an
efficient manner. The responsibilities that in have to perform here so as to manage everything
nicely are :-

Since Wellington Hospital is a well known hospital so it does not require
much advertisements but I have to make sure that if any new service is
introduced by the Doctors of Hospital then it should be known to the
people outside. So, I have to manage all the marketing activities for making
patients understand the services provided by them.
Maintaining It is the main responsibility that I have to fulfil. Whenever there is some

problem in or emergency in Wellington Hospital, I am only asked about
the patients reports, so it is my responsibility to maintain all the records of
the patients of the Hospital so that they can be referred further.
Maintaining

relations
As a manager of Wellington Hospital, it is my responsibility to maintain
sound relationship between management and he staff members of the
hospital. If they will work with coordination and Harmony then the whole
hospital will be able to maintain good environment and which is very
essential for the patients admitted there.
Initiate learning
and Development:
As a manager of Wellington Hospital, I am responsible to increase of the
people who are working in he organisation. So, to increase the efficiency of
doctors, I will conduct various seminars and programs where they will get
the opportunity to learn new developments that are happening in the
medical world outside and those skills also that will help them performing
their job easily.
The performance objectives are given as :

Time management According to the work allotted to me and my
team in have decided to manage my team by
dividing the whole work to be performed on
different days. I have decided to allot 2 week
time complete my project.
Reducing Conflicts Since conflicts can make the work environment
worse, so I have decided that in have to solve
all the issues going on between the employees
within 1 week.
Improving Communication Communication improvement take more time
than any other skill so in have decided to give
some time to the employees so that they are

able to connect with each other in a better
manner and communication is improved.
1.2 Own effectiveness against defined objectives
Since I am appointed as the manager of Wellington Hospital, there are so many
responsibilities that I have to perform there. I will be requiring so many skills so as to conduct
my work effectively and efficiently.

Personality Development I have to enhance my knowledge and the overall personality so that
everyone in the hospital follows what I say
Self Development skill I have to check whether I will be able to complete all that alone or
in will need some help. I should try to communicate with the
doctors, sisters, ward boys more often so that I can know what is
going on in the hospital
Employee Relationship Since I am responsible for maintaining good relationship inside the
hospital so I should start this initiative from my side only. If I will
have a positive relation with every one then I will be in the position
to convince the other employees to do the same
Keeping Records I am also told to maintain records and reports of patients and the
management as well so to do this I will have to develop my
memory so that I am able to remember important files and data. If
will not be able to provide any file to the doctors on time then its
implications can be faced by the patients as well
1.3 Recommendations for improvement
Whenever there is scope of improvement in a particular thing then it can be achieved by
the recommendations given for them. They act like suggestions for the individuals. Since no one
is perfect similarly I also need to improve few skills in myself so as to perform my work
properly. As a manager I have to see that what skills I require to complete the responsibilities in
Hospital. So that there is no problem in completing the objectives of the organisation. The three
major areas of improvement that I see in myself are:-

 I want to improve my problem solving skills so that I become capable of solving all the
issues that are arise in hospital. There some nay cases where emergencies come in
Hospital and I have to learn to deal with that type of situations also.
 I have so many responsibilities in organisation so I have to learn to manage my time
effectively so that all the work is completed on time . This will help in performing the
functions very well.
 It is very necessary for me to have a good patience level because it is very much required
in dealing with various cases that come in Wellington Hospital on daily basis. If I will
have patience then I will be able to handle all the activities very well.
1.4 Use of motivational technique in relation to improve quality of performance
There is no doubt that if good motivation is given to a person then they become confident
and perform well. So, motivations are always on priority in the companies. It improves the
quality of performance as well. In case of Wellington Hospital, if the staff is given good
motivation time to time then they will be able to deliver good results to the company. It is the
responsibility of the manager to adopt various types of motivating techniques to implement in
their respective organisation and ensure growth and development. This organisation is very
famous for its advances technology treatment and is considered the best but it is well known that
there is always scope for improvement. So, it is the responsibility of managers to bring in some
motivational techniques . Some of the ways that I use to motivate the employees of Wellington
Hospital are:- Development programs :- Since development is very essential to improve the quality of
performance of employees so I have organised various type of events and seminars for
the doctors of the hospital. This helps in increasing the skills of the employees and the
knowledge as well. Incentives:- This kind of motivation is liked by every employee. So, if the e4mployees
will be given extra bonus and incentives time to time as per their performance ion the
organisation then they will be very much happy and satisfied and it will be shown in their
quality of performance as well. Goal setting:- If the employees of the organisation will be told in starting only about the
goals that they have tom achieve while working in the company then They will be
persuaded to achieve it as early as possible. So, I have decided to tell my employees

about the aim that is set by the higher management of the company so that they have a
cleat vision of what they have to achieve in the company.
 Awards and felicitations :- This is a kind of non-monetary reward which is liked by the
employees of every organisation. In this technique , the employee is motivation and given
credit of the good work they have done in the company. This acts as a strong motivation
for the employees as they think that they are getting recognised for what they are doing
so they will continue doing such good work so that they get this reward again and again.

2.1 Alternative solutions for work-based problems
In an organisation there are various types of people who are working in the company. S
chances clash is very much. It is the responsibility of the manager only to make sure that there is
no problems between the staff members of the organisation. These types of problems which arise
in the the organisation are called as the work based problems. In Wellington Hospital also there
are various types of problems that are to be solved by the manager of the company. Manager
should try to bring coordination between the employees so that there are less chances of these
types of conflicts (Andrews and Russell, 2012). Thus will reduce the work load of managers as
well as a good environment is maintained in the company.
There are various tools and techniques that are to e used by the managers of Wellington
Hospital like appointing subordinates who will look after the small activities going on in the
company. This will reduce the work load of the manager and he will be able to handle big
issues. Various work based problems and solutions that arise in Wellington Hospital are :-
 Since it is an hospital and it requires various skilled people so manager must recruit
people very carefully. If wrong employee is appointed then it will be very bad for te
whole organisation all the clients and patients will suffer from this.
 Problems also arise because of the communication that is happening inside the hospital. If
the employees will not communicate with each other properly then the flow of
information in the organisation will not be proper (de Guzman and Choi, 2013). This will
impact the work very much. So to solve this problem, managers will have to try to initiate
good communication between the employees. They should do various employee
engagement programs that will help the employees to kn ow each other better ad relations
will be improved.

2.2 Variety of styles and appropriate manner at various levels
Communication can be defined as a process in which there is transfer of information from
one person to another. This is one of the important element in all the organisation. Through this
only company is able to share information from one person to another. It helps the senior
management to give commands to their subordinates easily. Communication is very essential inn
the workplace because through this only company is able to maintain effective relationships
between the employees of the company.
Types of Communication :
There are mainly two kinds of communication which happens in the organisation. They are :-
 VERBAL COMMUNICATION – in this type of communication , there is oral
communication between the employees of the company (Deeley, 2014). They make use
of word and sound in order to tell something to each other. In this style also there are two
sub styles like-
◦ Interpersonal Communication – in this two person are involved and information is
discussed between them only.
◦ Public Speaking – In thus style, one person is speaking an rest all are listening. Here,
information is given tom public.
 WRITTEN COMMUNICATION – In this style, communication is done in written form .
This is considered as the most effective method of communication because in this there is
no chance of message getting changed.
 NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION – In this type of communication there is no use of
effective words to communicate with each other (Dhiman, 2012). There is usage of
symbols , figures etc.
In an organisation there is communication at various levels like -
 Communication with employees
 Communication with managers / Supervisors
 Communication with the Top level management
2.3 Time management strategies
Time management is very essential in the company. If work is not finished on time then
all the activities are delayed. Time management brings efficiency in the organisation. In
Wellington Hospital , there ae so many responsibilities on the manager , if he will nlot do hat on

time then they will have to face various kinds of difficulties because in an hospital even 1 minute
is precious for the patients (Durrani and Tariq, 2012). The manage should try to bring ion self
discipline and focu in the staff members so that they perform as per the environment of the
hospital. Few time management strategies that can be implemented by the managers of
Wellington Hospital are -
 Scheduling :- There should be a time table which needs to be maintained by the
company. In that all the activities that will be conducted by the company in the next few
days should be scheduled in a proper manner.
 Systematize – doing work in an organised way is always effective. In Wellington
Hospital, managers should try that they should make use papers, documents and etc. so
that the task is attempted properly. There should be self discipline in individual so as to
perform work in an organised way.
 Breaks – It is always necessary to have time gaps between the work. This helps in easing
out a little bit and then a fresh energy is filled up in the person as well.

4.1 Tools and methods for developing solutions to problems
There are various tools and methods that can be used by Wellington Hospital to bring in
solution to the problems that are going on in the company. It is the duty of the managers to make
use of effective tools and techniques that will hep in bringing efficient in the company. The
managers can use Storming and Norming method in this to develop solutions. As per these , the
employees will work together and will be able to solve their problems on their own.
By using this , work is divided between the employees in an effective manner. Further the
team members are also given the task to perform in which the they have to make an activity
which will be performed by the manager of the team (Fatima Warraich and Ameen, 2011). This
will help the employees in knowing each other better and communicate also effectively.

4.2 Appropriate strategy for resolving a particular problem
Strategies act as a base on which the companies perform their task. They are prepared by
the higher level management of the company. This helps in increasing the productivity of
employees and company as well. If in Wellington Hospital employees does not want to work
together then it is a serious problem for the company. So, to solve this problem, management of
Wellington Hospital has organised an event in which they have invited all of its employees
(Griffin and Annulis, 2013). In that event they decided the following points :-
 Each work will be divided between the employees so that burden is not on one person.
 Make presentations which will be shown tom the manager. This is because it will compel
the employees to work together in the presentations.
 Employees should feel safe and equal inside company which will remove the feeling of
senior and junior between the employees.
4.3 Potential impact on the business of implementing the strategy
When Wellington Hospital will implement this strategy inside the company then they
will see that it has impacted the productivity of the company very much. If the above mentioned
strategies will be used then the relation between the employees will improve very much. This
will happen because they will be given so much much time to spend with each other. This will
help the employees in understanding the behaviour of each other, their habits, their nature in a
better way (Hinchliffe and Jolly, 2011).
After improving these relations. Company can easily teams . So, in Wellington Hospital,
if a team of good doctors are prepared then it will increase the efficiency of hotel 100 times than
it was earlier. So, the strategies implemented by the management had a positive impact on the
business.
CONCLUSION
` From the above report it can be concluded that employability skills is very much
important for the success of organization by uplifting their talent with the use of effective
methods. If the employee will not have enough skills then they will not be able to perform better
so, employability skills are a must requirement in the employees. In this report , Wellington
Hospital has been used to discuss the report in detail. In this skills and responsibilities that are
required by the manger of the hospital is covered. Along with this, solutions to work based
problems, role of individual in a team for achieving objectives of the company are also covered.
