Introduction:
This report aims to discuss the personal and professional development of myself as an
individual through this particular coursework by knowing as well as analyzing myself along
with the industry in which I shall be selected and be operative in future.
Know yourself:
I am currently studying management course in a reputed university of the UK that
mainly focusses on the courses regarding the hospitality industry.
Identifying key strengths through Johari window and Gallup test:
In order to understand the key strengths in my personality, I have taken two tests like
Johari window and Gallup test. The first one reveals how much I know myself and how the
people in my group see me. It is the process of giving and receiving the feedback so that the
persons get to know the areas where they need to improve. By revealing the exposed as well
as the hidden qualities. There are four panes present in the window which consists of façade,
blond spot, hidden and unknown ones. In my case, most of the qualities that I possess are
known to me therefore, the questionnaire I completed had matched my peer also. These
qualities include idealistic, spontaneous, powerful, bold, knowledgeable, independent
empathetic and many more (Koca and Erigüç 2019). In the blind spot there are qualities
which I never felt but are visible to the others. These include qualities like sentimental,
sensible, organized, and mature and others. The hidden pane includes the qualities like
complex, nervous, shy, reflective and quiet that others do not know but I feel those properly.
Finally the qualities present in me which I as well as others do not know include searching
and tense qualities.
Similarly in the gall up strength finder I have found that there are some very
important factors that I possess for developing myself to gain success in the future (Oliver

and Duncan 2019). The gall up strength finder has revealed that I possess the qualities like
input, responsibility, relator, and intellection and include. The responsibility factor helps me
to identify my interest for taking responsibilities in the critical situation this quality has
helped me to be honest and loyal to the organizations I am attached. I do what I say and take
psychological ownership for solving the situation. The input quality makes me a
knowledgeable person who inputs al information and use them when the time comes. I prefer
to share my knowledge and concepts with the others so that they can understand my
perception. I am a relator which reflects my preference to develop healthy relations with
others (Gamayanto et al. 2019). I provide any type of effort to my peers so that the goal we
need to achieve, must be done within desired time. I am an includer that reveals my
empathetic quality to include those who feel left out in the group. Being an introspective
person I get the scope for reflection so that I can make an ordinary service quite extraordinary
that fulfills my intellection skill.
Application of elements of these theories:
Despite the fact that I aim to flourish myself in near future and take a prestigious
position in the hospitality sector, I want to start my own business. By serving this sector for
two decades, I will have a clear idea how the organostions in this sector work actually. The
insights I have gained from these theories or test, I will find out the actual situation of my
personal growth. This will guide me in developing the professional qualities and achieving
the future aspirations. Through these skills, mentioned before, I will be able to find out the
ways I need to walk to become a successful person in the organizations and effectively serve
my stakeholders. There are several issues developing in the current business culture that
relates to the human resource, service to the customers and maintaining competitive edge in
the hospitality sector. Therefore, when I can fully differentiate the strengths from my

weaknesses, I can transform the latter to the former. I help the people to demonstrate
empathy, sensitivity and love that differentiate me from the others in the same level.

Compare and contrast two companies in your sector:
As I aim to work in the hospitality sector in the UK, I have found out two companies
working best in this sector of the country. These two major organizations are Bourne
Holidays Ltd and Red Carnation Hotels. Bourne Holidays Ltd, operates 13 hotels across the
United Kingdom under the name of Warner Leisure hotels. It was founded in 1984 operating
from Hempstead. These hotel are exclusively for the adult couples but include restaurants,
rooms, sports place, leisure club, live entertainment, spa and spa pool, resort, swimming pool,
sauna bath, auditorium and the steam rooms (Bourneleisuresales.co.uk 2019).
Similarly, Red Carnation Hotels is a family operated collection and renowned for its
impeccable service. Each of the hotel in red carnation Hotel chain is a landmark of tradition
and history. Every one of them are individually designed and reputed for its exclusive dining
experience (Thetravelcorporation.com 2019). It is award winning boutique hotels in Ireland,
South Africa Switzerland and North America. Starting from the magnificent Ashford castle in
the Ireland historical mention like hotel in London and iconic oyster box hotel in South
Africa. Which one of the hotel of this collection a unique and its features a personal approach
to hospitality. Unlike the previous one this hotel collection also has exceptional reputation for
its dining, spas sumptuous surroundings and exceptional hospitality. Moreover this
organization has taken major environmental initiative and supports the community associated
with it.

The operations of these two organizations namely Bourne Holidays Ltd and Red Carnation
Hotels are perfectly aligned with the expectation of an HR manager like me. Ethical aspect
has been reflected in the strategies, policies and management of these two organizational
workplace. The employees seem to be cooperative as well as coordinating which create a
positive work culture within the organization. These two organizations have positively
supported the environment and the community through their supportive corporate social
activities (Noe et al. 2017). Both these organization follow the theory of deontology to
encourage righteousness of directions. However these two companies will help me to
understand the importance of following sustainability factors in helping the employees as
well as match the situation to support the clients. The role and operations of an HR will be
highlighted and the demand of the sector will be positively mitigated. The operations of these
two well known organizations will give me opportunity to understand the operation of the
hotels in this competitive hospitality industry.

I have chosen the course of Human Resource Management as I have all the capabilities to
become a successful HR in any industry. However I have chosen the hospitality industry as
my chief objective is to deliver perfect service to my customers within selected time. I also
want to maintain the reputation of the organization I shall be working with by providing high
quality service through managing the employees of the organization perfectly (Chelladurai
and Kerwin 2018). This is due to the fact that my company will be highly reputed for its
exceptional hospitality service with much less expense and time. I want to play an effective
role in carrying out the responsibilities and maintain coordination among the team members
so that we can give the company competitive advantage in this concentrated hospitality
industry in the UK. These are the reasons why I have developed myself personally and

higher authority as well as the employees.

more people are taking interest to enter this particular field. Therefore I need to develop some
very important professional skills which can help me to make myself unique in service and
differentiate me from the other candidates (Bailey et al. 2018). To be considered in the job of
human resource manager in a hotel I need to have proper academic training as well as
experience of working in the hospitality sector. As hospitality is a service sector ok, I need to
be proficient in communicating my message to my listeners. I need to increase my capability

of sharing my views to the others more particularly to the clients so that there is no room for
misunderstanding (Brewster, Mayrhofer and Morley 2016). I need to develop adaptability
and flexibility as the hospitality sector is continuously changing. I need to have proper goals
and vision about my job so that I can be adaptable with any changes and instigate others as
well as my subordinates to do the same. As I want to be an efficient manager I need to
develop good relationship with everyone in in the organization. I need to develop
dependability and trust so that it I can survive in the high competition in this present market. I
need to take leadership role so that I can and play important role of leader of the employees.

Networking help to become more commercially aware of the sector:
In the hospitality sector in which I want operate in future highly depends upon the
maintenance of the network. For operating effectively building a relation with the internal as
well as external stakeholders is essential. This effectively help to retain the customers for the
clients in the hospitality sector through high quality of service when I can become impressive
and convincing with my communication. That’s why I can build and maintain the proper
network system around the client base I can acquire more knowledge regarding the demand
of the market or for that matter the entire sector of hospitality industry. Similarly I can make
effective strategies to get the demands of the clients (Guest 2017). The networking system
actually will support the knowledge of the suppliers, Government, employees, customers and
other shareholders. Therefore when I will be placed as the human resource manager of a hotel
I can understand the aspects of networking through communication. Proper communication
system will help me to develop and retain relationship with the suppliers all the stakeholders
and even the existing competitors in this market. Thus proper understanding of the

networking system in the hospitality sector can help me to gain knowledge and make myself
skilled to match the requirement of demand of the industry.
Reflect on the networking events
As mentioned before the networking system in the hospitality sector can help me to develop
my personal and professional skills. Therefore I have attended two very important events
both of which were educational (Nankervis et al. 2018). I wanted to know and understand my
sector more effectively so that I can enhance my professional and personal skill perfectly
aligning the Expectations of my sector. In both this educational events I have understood how
the human resource managers can manage any type of emergency or critical issues and bring
all the negative aspects towards the positive. The main aim of the human resource managers
is to maintain perfect environment in the organization so that the employees can ethically
corporate and move towards the common goal of the organization. As I had experience in
working in the Resorts, restaurants and other small or medium hotels I would easily connect
the barriers appear in maintaining a perfect positive work culture in the organization.
Through these events I have understood how I can increase my fish and see for serving the
customers more effectively and they deliver my projects on the stipulated period of time
(Olson et al. 2018). In addition to this the educational events have pointed out that the
hospitality industry is becoming more cross-cultural therefore we need to overcome the
language for communication barrier while providing support to the customers.
These events in one hand has given me opportunity to understand you can corner of
the sector where I am going to work and share my knowledge with the other senior or junior
persons attending the same event I had a huge number of questions that needed to be
answered regarding the cross-cultural environment of hospitality and how the technology can
help us to select and recruit the skilled candidate (Banfield, Kay and Royles 2018). As I have
faced several barriers in my career in other places regarding the employee retention in the

hospitality sector as this is based on the service providing by the employees which make the
stuffs more stressful than the other sectors. Through these two educational events I felt that
my overall journey as a human resource manager will be we have fear than ever as well as
memorable. As these two events have made me understand the important factors relating to
the hospitality sector I can utilise all these qualities and skills while making decisions in
future.
STAR method of interview:
Question: what according to you is the best way to arrange event for the business
customers?
Situation: S I have experience of arranging events in the college and university
level with my team members.
Task: T My task was to deal with the team members and conduct the
responsibility of project manager.
Action: A I am a relator hence I increased collaboration with the team
members to achieve the goal.
Result: R I managed the entire event quite successfully and coordinated the
entire event so that the team members can perform well.
Learning about self throughout the whole module and skills needed to further
develop:
Through this module I have found out some very important strengths and weaknesses in me
as I have gone through two major tests which have pointed out the scopes for development. I
need to increase adaptability so that I can mix up in any situation.
