INTRODUCTION
People management is the end-to-end process for acquiring, optimizing, and retaining the
personnel at the workplace. In the business organization number of employees is working who
are recruited and selected by human resource management is also known as people management.
This is the systematic process of managing people at the workplace and getting the work done
effectively (Pambreni, Khatibi, Azam and Tham, 2019). Human resource management of each
organization is playing the important role as it identifies the vacancy and recruit the skilled
employees by analysing their skills and abilities which can help to develop the organizational
performance. In each organization employees are important as it understands the organization
requirement and provide the satisfaction by offering kind of services. To understand about
people management ASOS Plc has been selected that is British online fashion and cosmetic
retailer, was founded in 2000 in London (About ASOS Plc. 2021). The management is having
leading position at the workplace who analysis the environment and managing each function
with the help of employees. The current report covers discussion about motivation and the
factors that influences employee motivation.

Motivation is the continuous process of attracting and retaining the top talent at the
workplace who get ready to work and manage each function. This involves emotional, cognitive,
social and biological forces that can be used by management for running their business and
satisfying the people. Motivation is the process of stimulating people to achieve the goals. For
each organization it is important to have clear understanding about employee issue, and
management is requiring to solve them properly which can help to develop the organizational
productivity. Without motivation it would be difficult for company to influence and retain the
people at the workplace as it increases employee’s turnover and lower productivity. Motivation
is the main aspects for each organization as it helps to create the good working environment and
getting the work done properly. In relation to ASOS Plc, management is playing the important
roles as it creates the link between employer and employees that can help to fill the employees
demand and develop the organizational effectiveness (Steinmayr, Weidinger, Schwinger, and
Spinath, 2019).

Importance of Motivation
Reduction in employee turnover – The reputation of company is affected by the employee
turnover if they are not motivated. So, this is important for organization to understand the needs
of employees and provide them various benefits which can motivate them to work and retain at
the workplace. In relation to ASOS Plc, management fill the employee expectation and needs by
creating effective working environment which can help to reduce the employee turnover and
improve profitability.
Leads to stability of workforce – Motivation is the important factors for employees as it
makes happy to their staff and leads to stability in the organization. The management of ASOS
Plc, uses the motivation schemes such as training and development, compensation and benefits,
increase in salary and others that leads to stability in workforce and develop the organizational
performance effectively (Kuswati, 2019).
Factors to motivation that influence employees
Employees’ motivation and engagement are needed practices which should be
performing by management for the purpose of developing the business activities and attaining
the higher performance. Employees are the assets of organization as they understand the goals
and contributes in organizational activities which can help to develop the business performance.
If employees are motivated, then it will be a good opportunity for organization to grow their
business and become a leading organization in the changing environment. This also helps to
bring the changes and managing the all resources effectively which can help to develop the
business productivity. In relation to ASOS Plc, HR management is playing the major role as it
decides the goals and get involve all staff in organization to work that can help to improve the
business performance and profitability. The factors which influences employee’s motivation that
are as explained:
Reward and Recognition – This factor is related to managing the good work of
employees and completes it properly in certain period of time. The organization has a large
number of people who work in diverse ways and manage all functions by recognizing roles and
duties. The management is requiring to analysing the employee’s performance and provide the
recognition or rewards in front of all that can help to develop the business performance in the
changing environment. If employees are rewarded, then it will be good opportunity for
organization to retain their staff for long period of time. In relation to ASOS Plc, all functions

are organising and managing by HRM, finance, marketing, IT and other department, where
performance is also analysed to make the right decision regarding rewards and recognition. The
employer of selected organization should be involving in all activities and analysis the
performance which can help to make the right business decision regarding rewards that make
feel good to staff. This improves the value of organization and employees at the workplace
which can help to attain the business goals and objectives (Werdhiastutie, Suhariadi, and Partiwi,
2020).
Development – This factor is related to motivating the employees and developing their
career by providing them great opportunity to work and show talent at the workplace. The aim of
organisation is having major role as it conducts the analysis and introduces the products and
services accordingly which can help to develop the organizational productivity. In relation to
ASOS Plc, management use development factors by providing them career opportunity, training
to their staff and others which can help to develop the employees and organizational activities.
The development is the important factor which needs employee development and organizational
development by analysing their skills abilities to work which provides the opportunity to grow
their business. Whenever there is any new product and service are launched by management of
ASOS Plc then employees should be adopting new technology and strategy which can help to
develop the organizational performance and also increase the employee skills to learn new and
use in future employment (Aluja-Banet, Sancho, and Vukic, 2019).
Leadership –. Leadership is the research area and practical skills that encompasses
through individual’s ability and lead to the organizational activities. In relation ASOS Plc,
leadership is having good role as leader understand the goals and allocate the work between
employees which can help to develop the organizational activities by attaining the goals. If there
is good leader and management then it will be effective task for organization to develop the
business activities and performance. Leader is playing the important role who introduce the new
change and getting the work done properly which can help to attain the business goals and
objectives. The leadership is the effective factor which is strongly agreed with organizational
activities and gets completion of task with the help of proper guidance. The leader of selected
organisation is having major role it conducts the research and introduce the products and services
accordingly which can help to develop the business activities and functions. This person
understands the changes and provide proper training to their staff which enhances the

organizational productivity. The leader is one who suggest to their staff and getting the work
done effectively which can help to attain the business goals and objectives (Alioon, and
Delialioğlu, 2019).
Work life balance – In business organization number of employees are working who
needs to focus on work life balance as it can help to attracts the large number of customers. In
organization management provides a good work life to their staff that can help to make feel them
comfortable and delight by organising all resources and capital. It has seen that if employees are
enough motivated are less likely to take sick days, leave the organization and work for long
hours willingly that can help to develop the organizational activities and performance. In relation
to ASOS Plc, management make sure that all staff are working effectively and reasonable hours
that supports to bring the changes and accept them properly which can help to develop the
organizational activities and profitability. This is important for management of selected company
to understand the business requirement and employees issues then create the work life balance
between them which can help to attain the business goals and objectives effectively (Carlsson
and et.al., 2019).
Training and development – This is most important factor for organization as it brings
the changes in employee activities by providing training that can help to develop the business
performance. Training and development is the needed factor which is adopted by management
for the purpose of bringing changes and getting the work done effectively that can help to
develop the business performance. In relation to ASOS Plc, management should be considering
this factor while running the business and provide the training to their staff which can help to
improve the business functions and activities. Without training it might be difficult for
employees of selected organization to accept the changes and increase the business activities.
This can help to accept the challenges and manage the higher productivity.
Creating a suitable working environment – Environment is main factor for employees
as it gets ready all staff to work properly by accepting the change and developing the business
performance. If there is no suitable working environment, then issues can be faced by employees
in relation to arranging and arranging the work at the workplace. For each organization it is
important to create an effective working environment which can help to adopt the changes and
maintain the higher productivity. In ASOS Plc, management is using this factor by analysing

demand. providing flexibility to work and providing training which helps to improve the brand

From the above it can be explained that in business environment there are various
motivation factors which used by organization for the purpose of analysing the business
performance and motivating the employees. This can help to increase the organizational
activities and performance in the changing environment by motivating staff and getting the work
done properly. The management and leader of ASOS Plc is playing the important role as it
conducts the analysis and use the factors to fill the customers’ expectations by providing the
better quality of products and services. This helps to bring the changes in their operations with
the help of staff and getting the work done which increases the business productivity and
profitability.
Motivational theories
Maslow hierarchy theory – This is motivation based theory, focuses on basis and
demand of their employees for the purpose of getting work done smoothly. The management of
ASOS Plc is used the Maslow’s theory that is defined below:
Physiological needs – This means physical survival necessities which involves air,
water, food, shelter, and safety which can help to make feel good to their staff and manage the all
activities. The management of ASOS Plc is providing physiological needs to their employees by
providing job opportunity.
Safety – This involves needs for safety, protection from threats, deprivation and others.
The employers of ASOS Plc provides safety, protection from threats, and deprivation which can
help to improve the employee’s activities and their health (Parashakti, Fahlevi, Ekhsan, and
Hadinata, 2020.
Social needs – This considers friendship, affiliation, and association that are used by
people to feel good. The employees of ASOS Plc are enjoying association, friendship, affiliation
by creating good working environment between employees who works at the organisation.
Self-esteem needs – It basically consider self- esteem, respects and others which can help
to develop the employee’s skills and abilities to work. The employees of ASOS Plc feel respects
and recognition entire their working which can help to develop the business performance.
Self –actualization – This involves analysing the own skills and abilities to work and
developing the higher employees as well as employer productivity. The employees of ASOS Plc

requiring to analysis their needs and abilities to work by using their skills (Farmaki, Khalilzadeh,
and Altinay, 2019).
This theory is used by ASOS Plc for the purpose of filling employee’s basic needs and
providing them higher level of satisfaction which can help to develop the organizational
productivity and profitability. This influence the number of employees and getting the work done
effectively.
McClelland theory of needs
This theory is proposed by Psychologist David McClelland, said that it is motivational
model that used to explain how the needs for achievement, affiliation, power affects the action of
people from a managerial context (Nurlina, 2021). ASOS Plc is the large size organization that
follows the McClelland motivational theory that are as follows:
Need for Achievement – People who have a need for achievement wish to work on tasks
of by facing moderate issues in which results are based on their efforts rather than on anything
else to receive feedback on their work. The employees of ASOS Plc need this for achieving the
business goals as they put efforts in each work or task (Tsai, and Yen, 2020).
Affiliation – This means need for love where management requires to make feel
belongingness, love and social acceptance which can help to solve the conflicts and maintaining
higher productivity at the workplace. In relation to ASOS Plc, employees need for affiliation as
they spend time creating and maintaining social relationships that can help to make feel loved
and accepted.
Power – This means need for control and getting the work done from other employees by
accepting the change which can help to maintain the higher performance. The employees of
ASOS Plc needs power to make feel good all staff and getting the work done in certain period of
time that supports to attain the business goals.
REFLECTIVE ESSAY
When I was studing in London University I came to know various skills and abilities that
helped me in personal development. The subject of study was Human resources management
where I learnt how to manage the people and allocate the work between them which could help
to complete the project. I participated in the motivation classes where I learnt that in business
environment there are many motivational factors which can be used to motivate the people and
getting the work done from them. In the subject I have learned that what types of problems

facing by employees and how could be satisfied. While preparing the report and discussing about
motivational factors I focused on learning which increased my learning in different areas. When
I was studying in college I selected the motivation topic where I came to know about different
factors that could influence the employee’s motivation and develop the organizational
productivity. My tutor has assigned me a project that needed to be complete in fixed period
where I used my skills and built the effective team that helped me to complete the project. While
doing study I have gained the sharing skills, decision making skills, leadership, team work and
strategic thinking skills. Herein, I analysed that I am good in communication, writing, problem
solving, and collaboration skills which can help to managing and arranging the task on certain
time. This can help to increase the individual as well as team skills for the purpose of managing
project and report. I also analysed that before having such skills I was unable to manage the
team, leading all member, getting the problem each project that made me feel so nervous. The
motivation subject and learning classes was very helpful and valuable for me where I learnt
different types of skills and abilities that surely would help me to complete any project in
upcoming period. I learnt about different motivation drivers which made progress in
understanding the important subject ideas. My team member faced the problem in sharing their
opinion and views where I helped them to follow the openness personality trait which supported
to share their opinion and views for the purpose of completing task and attaining the higher
performance. After taking classes I can assure myself and my senior that no struggle would face
in the future as all skills which I have learned would help me to solve any issues that might be
arises while working. During the working I also analysed my weakness such as lack of
mathematical skills, lack of training, decision making skills and leadership which I improved by
understanding the problem and observing the people that provided me good opportunity to
improve skills and get the future employment chances. I am feel very good and comfortable as I
enhanced my knowledge in particular subject that made me feel that I became a more
independent learner. With the help of learning skills and abilities I could get the good future
opportunity and maintain higher performance.
CONCLUSION
From the report it can be concluded that motivation is the important practices which is
used by organization to influences the employees and getting the work done effectively. The
ASOS Plc is requiring to have proper knowledge and skills which can be used to influence the

employees and motivate them properly. The motivational factors are creating working
environment, training and development, work life balance, leadership, development, reward and
recognition that are used by selected organization to motivate the employees and managing the
higher performance. Without motivation it can be difficult for organization to run their business
and get the work done.
