Part 1
a) Key academic writing style and its importance
Academic writing consists of factors like clear, concise, structure of information which is
backed up by the evidence in order to provide most authenticated information. This skills is
consider to be most crucial for a student in order to perform well as it supported them in learning
new things and understand ways to represent their ideas to perform well in their area. By
conducting this project I would be able to learn so many things which support me in getting
good grades as well as help in developing my academical skills for successful completion of this
coursework. By performing this project I would be able to develop my researcher skills in term
of gathering, evaluating, interpreting and presenting the information in more efficient manner.
This is so because for performing this project I gathered data from several sources that are
available over internet which supported me in getting understanding regarding several tools and
techniques that can be used in order to gathered and present information in more effective
manner. Despite of this I also came to learn about the things to be consider while information
shorthand while providing the overview of whole content. This supported me in learning the way
of presenting the information in more understandable manner. In addition to this I also came to
learn about the formal tone of writing the content which further support me in future practices.
Despite of all this I came to learn about the importance of referencing within a project
and learn to form references that are consider as the evidence of project in term of authenticity of
information presented within the report. Additionally, I also learnt about the concept of
plagiarism who it get occur and manner in which it affect the quality of particular research
project. This is because in context of university the plagiarism is consider as the disciplinary
offence which may question the efforts of a student. Therefore it can be said that academical
skills are crucial as it support an individual to become more efficient learner which provide them
a confidence to participate fully in the activities of university and be able to get their personal
development which support in better career development.
b) Introduction to topic
Employing people with disability is consider to be most crucial aspect of a workplace that
work toward brining equality among employees as it support in encouraging other people to

perform well. People with disability have been excluded from several rights and being under-
represented in workforce as per the perception of lack of capability to perform the tasks in
effective manner. The reintegration of people with disability in workplace has now gained more
significance throughout the world as a result of pressure from politician and to lighten up the
burden on social insurance. Hence, in order to maintain their positive image in society, business
mainly putting their efforts toward applying the diversity policy in order to recruit disable people
as employing people with disability allows employer to get several growth and development
possibilities in market place.
PART 2
SECTION 1 : Quantitative / Positivistic article
Article 1
As per the Positivist article presented by Lisa Schur, Adrienne Colella & Meera Adya,
2016, people with disability make up a larger as well as growing population throughout the
world i.e. 15-19% are disable out of 1 billion people and high poverty rate is consider to be
major issue among them due to low employment rate. This rate is increasing because the
employers reluctance to hire the people with disability even when they are having better
qualification then that of other normal people. For this investigation survey method by forming
up a questionnaire to gathered data from 51 countries from this it has been found that 53% of
men and 20% women with disability are working over 65% and 30% of men & women without
disability.
Article 2
This positivist article was presented by A Milner, A D LaMontagne, Z Aitken, R Bentley,
A M Kavanagh, 2014 which state that the unemployment and economic inactivity is increasing
within the environment due to lack of equal opportunity among people but it is not much clear
that these relationship are different due to people with mental or physical disability or not. For
identifying this the study is conducted by making use of survey method which involves total
2379 people with disability and 11417 people without disability. From this it has been found that
there is a greater reduction of mental health for people with disability who are economically
inactive or unemployed than those who are employed. This represents the value of employment
for the people with disabilities.

Article 3
As per the information presented within the positivist article presented by Michelle Clare
Wilson and Katrina Scior, 2014. This research investigated about the individual attitude towards
an individual person with disability is largely focused in order to determined the kind of attitude
they have to face at workplace while performing the evaluation over them. This investigation is
performed by making use of secondary information which is being collected from the article
published between January 2000 and September 2012 which includes implicit attitude toward
individual with intellectual disabilities (N=3),physical disabilities (N=13), unspecified
disabilities’ (N=1) and both physical and intellectual disabilities (N=1). From this negative
attitude has been found toward the people with disabilities at workplace which affect their
working practice or even affect their employment rate.
SECTION 2 : Qualitative / Anti-Positivistic article
Article 1
The article presented by Andrew Houtenville, Valentini Kalargyrou, 2014 is anti-
positivist investigation. It state that a recruitment of people with disability is becoming more
common across several kind of industries such as leisure and hospitality, manufacturing,
transportation and warehousing, good producing industries and many more. But the customers
reaction toward disable people is a major concern within industries specially in leisure and
hospitality companies as compare to others. In order to gather this information survey method is
used under qualitative techniques by gathering information while making comparison between
leisure and hospitality sector with other industries. From this the result has been found that as
compare to good producing industry, the service industry recruit more people with disabilities.
Article 2
The article presented by William A. Erickson, MA, Sarah von Schrader, PhD, Susanne
M. Bruyère, PhD, 2013, which is performed using qualitative type of investigation. It explains
that the employers' characteristics as well as policies or practices performed by them within the
workplace consider as the environmental factors that are crucial toward promoting the retention
as well as hiring of employees with disability factor. This is because flexibility in operations and
equality at workplace allows the adjustment of disable people at environment. For performing
this study effectively survey method is used by taking sampling as random basis across large,
small and medium employees. It has been found that there are number of characteristics like

training, collection of metrics, retention and advancement, perception of barriers to the
employment affects the employment of disable employees.
Article 3
According to the information presented within the anti-positivist article provided by
Gewurtz, Rebecca E, Langan, Samantha, Shand, Danielle, 2016, there are number of people with
disability who are continuing to found trouble in order to secure their employment as they do not
get equal opportunity at workplace. These act as a barrier to the employment of disable person
as organisations mainly provide more preferences to the people that are having adequate physical
and mental quality to perform work. For performing investigation over this secondary method of
data collection is used where view point of several people is gathered and critical reviewed using
literature review. It has been identified that there are number of barrier remains within the
organisation which restrict an employer to hire the people with disability. These barriers are
being created due to stakeholders like employer, co workers, perception of consumers etc.
SECTION 3 : DISCUSSION
The present is over the title i.e. “Employing people with disabilities” which is consider
to be most prominent concept throughout the world as now the government is pressurising
several organisation to put their initiative toward providing disable person with an opportunity to
get employment. From the above performed investigation it has been determined that the people
with disability captures around 17-19% of share form the population of 1 billion people which is
a biggest share. As a result of which poverty is also high among them in term of employment
rate not because of lack of interest toward work but due to negative perception that majority of
employers hold toward them which restrict them to get recruited even if they are having higher
qualification then that of people without disability. In addition to this person with disability are
facing several kind of discrimination at workplace in term of perception of employers, co-
workers, customers toward regarding the doubt over their ability to perform operations in
effective manner. This is consider to be the major barrier for the employees with disability to get
job within organisation. This is the main reason behind increasing inequality at workplace as
people with disability either don't get a chance to being recruited or even if they get recruited
then they have to face discrimination at workplace in term of pay gap, opportunities to perform
well, performance appreciation, promotions and many more. Additionally they some times also
may face kind of misbehave from other co-workers which affect their mind set and demotivate

them to work effectively as a result of which they don't be able to perform as per the expectation
which is consider to be main cause behind increasing unemployment among them.
Additionally it has also been identified from the study that because of this discrimination
as well as inequality present throughout the world toward the recruitment and retention of
employees is the main cause behind increasing poverty as well as unemployment rate among the
people with disability throughout the world. By performing survey within 51 countries it has
been determined that there are around 53% of people with disability get job out of the 65 % of
people without any disability who get employment easily due to this discrimination. The
employees with disability when get job then also they have to face discrimination in term of a
gap between their pay, under employment etc. But in order to promote the growth of such people
in term of providing them with employment opportunity there are number of policies that are
being created which support in reducing the employment barriers for the people having
disability.
The employment of people with disability is not only seen as a civil right issues but in
practical world also i.e. government budget, businesses and citizens. Therefore, this is being
promoted by government as well as several social groups as it brings up several benefit to the
organisation which includes reduction in turnover of employees, more motivation among
employees to perform well, support in creating a positive image within the society, increasing
productivity, broaden the pool of skilled workers etc. These all are the benefits which an
organisation get by recruiting the disable people at workplace which in turn contribute toward
the providing welfare practice to the disable people by providing them development and earning
opportunity with the help of promoting equality at workplace.
SECTION 4 : CONCLUSION
From the above performed investigation it has been identified that employment of disable
person is becoming one of the major concern throughout the world as these people are facing
several issues in term of getting employment within an organisation. The major barrier which is
consider to be a reason behind the unemployment of disable people is inequality as well as
negative perceptions that people have toward disability of person to perform a particular
responsibilities and role.
