transport and is preferred by many as it is cheap as long as you have your phone, you can place
an order on where to be picked and taken to.
The rural areas of Australia do not, however, have several transport options as urban centers. It
is therefore important for one to make sure that they have relevant information on local bus
services being offered. The railway transport networks, especially in Melbourne and Sydney,
perform thousands of trips per day in the movement of people and goods. Even though some of
the transport systems in Australia are costly, they are usually secure and well maintained. It is
usually rare to overload and it is punishable by law making it even better in avoiding accidents
(Rasch et al, 2013).
6.2 Government planning and setting according to Transportation problem in
Queensland.
Queensland has one of the greatest and diverse transport systems in Australia. This is of great
importance in the growing economy of the country. In order to achieve a safe, reliable and
efficient transport system in Queensland, the government of Australia thus encourages economic
expansion and prioritizes the views of the people in carrying out changes related to transport
management and planning (Male et al, 2011). This strategy ensures that arising issues are dealt
with adequately to deliver quality transport services to the people of Queensland. There are plans
put in place by the Queensland Transport Policy that will deal with challenges and offer
opportunities in the transport network in the near future. This will be made easier by
technological advancements which will aid in achieving waste emission reduction to the
atmosphere, reducing congestion and improving the services delivered through the transport
system (McCalla, 1999).

The government of Australia has, therefore, put the following plans in place with the aim of
dealing with transport problems affecting people of Queensland;
Provision of a more affordable transport means. This will be achieved by the provision
of various ways of purchasing monthly affordable transport subscriptions which will be
important in achieving integrated travel plans for one’s own personal needs. This will
also provide an alternative way of escaping the high cost of private car ownership
programs.
The use of technological advancements will also be important in accessing transport
systems to improve efficiency and accessibility. This is achieved through the provision of
alternative transport options to older people and individuals with a disability. The new
technology is also used to keep people informed to avoid congestion and make more use
of more viable transport networks. Technology is also used in improving security through
CCTV surveillance cameras which are placed on busy roads and parking places.
Allocation of funds aimed at improving the infrastructure and management of the
environment. This, therefore, provides conducive environment to achieve and affordable
transport solution to the people of Queensland.
The government also forms partnerships with other infrastructure improvement related
organizations in order to deliver quality services to the people.
The government also gets closer to carries questionnaires through social media asking
people difficulties they come across while using public transport. Through this, better
approaches to handling that fulfill customer needs are made.

also provide an alternative way of escaping the high cost of private car ownership

The government has put together all these aspects to deliver quality services to the people of
Queensland. This will be very vital in improving the economic growth of Queensland and
Australia as a whole (McDoughall et al, 2003).
6.3 Effects of increasing population and human activities on the Queensland
transportation system.
With the population rapidly growing in Queensland, there are significant impacts on the
transports systems in the region. Massive developments in the transport system have occurred
due to the ever-growing population density to satisfy the increasing demands. The following are
some of the effects of population growth and human activities on the Queensland transport
system;
The need for employment means that individuals have to travel to works place. There is,
therefore, this has led to increase in the number of transport vessels to facilitate
movements.
The increasing population means individuals tend to move to urban regions in search of
jobs. This means that roads in urban regions tend to be more developed and equipped
compared to those in rural areas meaning transport systems in urban centers tend to grow
faster.
The high population also means a high private car ownership programs. The vehicle
manufacturing companies, therefore, make lots of profit for expansion thus a positive
impact on the transport system. There is also a significant growth in cycle companies as
other people may prefer cycling to workplaces (Medhi, 1992).

Human activities such as tourism in Queensland also lead to the expansion of transport
systems to facilitate movements.
Industrial growth also means transport systems leading to those factories should be of
high standards for easy accessibility. This leads to the expansion of roads and transport
systems to these industries.
While industrial growth might be of positive impact on transport systems, wastes and
gasses released from these factories are released to the environment which can lead to
climatic changes that are likely to damage transport systems through severe floods, high
temperatures, and severe storms.
It is therefore important to note that human activities such as industrialization, urbanization, and
increasing populations can have both negative and positive impacts on Queensland transport
system.
The population growth forecast has therefore been formulated with the objective of increasing
the quality of services to the people of Queensland (Mills & Treagust, 2003).

Improvement of the transport network is very important for the success of the country’s
economy and environment conservation. It is important to monitor transport research programs
in determining whether the plans allocated have been used effectively in maintaining transport

Queensland Transport strategy has been formed with the aim of improving the transport system
for the future. This organization has the responsibility of ensuring;
Secure transport system for the people of Queensland
The dependable transport system of goods and the people of Queensland, and
Reasonable transportation cost on transportation
The following are the key transportation issues and the measures taken to solve them
Climate and weather-related effects: this can be solved by implementing adaptation
alternatives on our roads through proper transport planning strategies. The government in
collaboration with car manufacturers has put plans to manufacture vehicles with less
emission of contaminants to the atmosphere. The use of unleaded petrol has also been
advised.
Security to customers: this will be enhanced by the use of the modern technology and
installation of CCTV cameras on our traffics to monitor our roads.
Accidents: strict rules against overloading, over speeding and other actions that can lead
to accidents have been closely monitored. This has reduced the number of accident cases
in the transportation system.
Cost of transportation: the government has adopted alternative ways of controlling the
prices of transportation by the provision of other alternative ways of transportation such a
building more railways networks. This is an advantage to those who cannot manage taxi
rates and, therefore, can travel to places by means of a train in Queensland (Patil et al,
20008).

ENG5001Professional skills in Engineering18
A dependable and efficient transport system is of great importance to the economy of
Queensland. The transport of goods and services mostly relies on this reliable transport system to
reach customers (Ravelli et al, 2017). This can be illustrated as in the figure below
Figure 1.1 Transport Network survey (source: CCIQ)
The most important transport system contributing to rapid economic growth in Queensland is by
road. It is followed by other transport systems such as trains, airplanes, and water vessels.
Statistically, almost half of the businesses carried out in Queensland is supported by roads.
In cases of bad transport system management such as high cost and unreliable transport, may
lead to delay in delivery of goods and low ratings from customers (Reidsema et al, 2010). This
has negative impacts negatively on the growth of the business. Some business companies have
therefore devised plans to counter the problems associated with poor transport systems in order
to achieve timely delivery and customer satisfaction. These plans include
Adequate planning on time to deliver goods and services
Alternating working hours to escape traffic effects. This ensures timely delivery
especially those ones that are perishable.

7.3 Overcoming capacity constraints
7.1.1 Overview
The capacity constraint has been one of the issues that have led to low ratings on businesses
linked to transport systems and, therefore, business firms have raised a number of questions on
their ability to support them. It is necessary to increase the capacity of these transport networks
in order to satisfy the needs of the ever-increasing population. A strategy focusing on minimizing
these constraints should be implemented to counter negative impacts on business and enhance
movement to various places (Suby et al, 1996).

businesses;
Overcrowding in the transport station
Poor planning
Poor telecommunication systems

7.1.3 Solutions to overcome capacity constraints
The following are some of the solutions which can be taken into consideration
Reduction of the cost of transportation and making them uncompetitive to other forms of
transport.
Reducing overcrowding and provision of alternative forms of transport to the people
Designing roads and the provision of alternative routes through flyovers can be made to
overcome traffics.
Re-innovation of old or damaged transport networks.
Formation of partnerships for a uniform rate of cost in using transport systems to
customers.
Proper planning should be done while constructing roads to facilitate transportation to the
competitively growing businesses (Taylor et al, 1996).

road safety measures are not observed, such as disobedience to road safety rules, over speeding
or drinking while driving. Most common fatalities occur via road transport networks. It is
