Question 1
Questions Answers
1 How did you decide
to become an
engineer?
Engineering is a profession that many people would like to pursue. It is
a career that makes people gets associated with brilliant minds. When I
was growing up, there were only two engineers in my local area. My
mum kept narrating how she wanted to be a mechanical engineer but
she couldn't. She got pregnant at the age of 18. My mother introduced
me to one of the engineers who has been my mentor. The engineer
helped me develop a great passion for engineering.
2 Did you find the
engineering classes
friendly?
No. The engineering classes were not friendly to me neither were they
so much challenging. Some of the units in engineering gave me a hard
time, but I was able to succeed.
3 What can you say
about the engineering
curriculum used in
school?
The curriculum currently used in school to train engineers is not
sufficient to produce engineers required by the current market. The
curriculum emphases on the theoretical part of the engineering and
allocated very few hours to the practical part. The theoretical part of
the curriculum has produced graduates who cramp to pass in their
exams. The students end up scoring high marks in their exams while
they cannot perform adequately in their practice.

4 How do you manage
both the social and
technical aspects of
engineering?
It is not simple to balance both the social and technical aspects of
engineering. Sometimes I have a lot of work to do at such a time when
my family needs me most. I usually go home to my family very tired,
and my kids are waiting for me to guide them in their assignments.
5 Have you attained
your goals yet?
I have not attained my goals yet but, I can surely confirm that I am on
the right track toward achieving my goals.
6 What is the most
critical engineering
skills required while
hiring a new
engineer?
The most critical skills needed while hiring a new engineer is technical
skills.
7 Would you encourage
your kids to join
engineering?
I can encourage my children to join engineering, but I cannot force
them to study engineering. An excellent career gets built on passion. I
will support my children according to their passion.
8 Does the government
support engineers?
Yes. The government supports the engineers by employing them
according to their field of specialization, but I would urge the
government to provide more opportunities to help the growth of the
engineers.
9 How has engineering
changed and what do
you predicting the
future?
There have been a lot of changes in the field of engineering. Many
processes are automated as opposed to the past years. Technology has
enabled a lot to be achieved through engineering. In the future, I would
predict that in collaboration with technology, the engineering
implementation will continue to ease the way people operate their daily

activities.
10 What guidance would
you give to a young
person with dreams
of becoming an
engineer?
I would tell the young people that engineering is not a monster. They
can also study engineering and become successful in life. I would,
however, encourage girls to emulate the few female engineers and
dream of becoming engineers. Engineering is a field that has a lower
population of females as opposed to the male gender. I would like to
advise the young people who want to join engineering to attend the
annual engineering workshops in the country to have a better
understanding of the field of engineering.

Question 2
Part I
There are many challenges associated with studying technology. One of the difficulties is that
technology keeps on changing. There are very few training institutions that can keep up with the
speed of the changing technology. Most of the schools develop a curriculum before admitting the
students for approval which means that in case of the technology changes while the students are
learning they will be behind the technology (Imieliński & Korth, 2016).
According to Stüber (2012), a nother challenge is that technology is vast. An individual
has to decide what part of technology they want to learn and specialize in the field. One requires
a lot of time to understand technology better. However, somebody can learn about a specific
technology and specialize in that area.
Technology becomes obsolete very fast. One can study a specific technology which won't last
for ten years and end up having wasted time. Some years ago, people used to control computers
through instructions coded in 0s and 1s. However, today, we command the computers using
natural language (Krahmer & Theune, 2010).
The mobile technology has changed very fast. The first mobile phone was designed in a
way that typing was enabled using an external keyboard attached to the mobile phone. The
mobile phone did not have the connection to the internet. Today, nobody gets associated with
that kind of a mobile phone due to the introduction of a smartphone which has an internal
keyboard operated through the screen, connectivity to the internet, waterproof capabilities among
others. The mobile security has also changed. In the past, one could not trace a stolen mobile
phone which is possible today.

Part II
Yes. I think technology functions as a means of empowerment. Technology has
empowered education, social life, families, business, and security and healthcare services among
others (Hoffman, 2014). Not long ago, people used to communicate by sending emails through
the poster. This method took a lot of time for the message to get delivered to the right person.
However, the message was not secure because sometimes, the letter fell into the wrong hands.
Today, people communicate with each other as if they are seated together despite the fact that
they are very many miles away from each other. The message is secure in the sense that you
communicate with the intended person directly.
There are a lot of ways the technology has impacted the way I socialize. For instance, I have met
a lot of friends through the internet through the mobile phone. Through the mobile technology, I
can comfortably communicate with my parents on the critical events taking place in school.
However, there are challenges associated with technology (Fujimoto, 2017).
Cybersecurity is one of the problems related to technology where steals from you through the use
of technology. The person can take either your data or resources such as money from your
mobile phone banking applications (Rhee, 2009). Hacking also has compromised technology
where a stranger gains access and control of your device and end up either incriminating you or
stealing your data, (Rowles, 2014).
According to Mennecke & Strader (2017), in future, technology will enhance the usage
of one currency in the whole world. In this case, every person will have been forced to trade
through that currency which will save the world from money lost through the exchange of
currency from one region to another. Technology in future will make life better by enabling
research of the diseases that have no cure.
