Product Specifications Comparison

This assignment presents a series of product specifications for different models. The task involves comparing these specifications across multiple categories such as dimensions (length x width x height), voltage requirements, quantity, and weight. Students need to analyze the provided data and draw conclusions about the differences between the products.

ENGINEERING DESIGN REQUIREMENT
Task 1: Questionnaire.
Que.1 – Which color would you like your fridge be?
Response: - Gray shaded color (Analyze the set of colors chosen).
Que.2 – How much would you go far?
Response: - The product must be cost effective and efficient to the electricity and power
consumption (Give price ranges and ask respondent to select).
Que.3 – How many shelves would you like?
Response: - Generally 2 shelves are required but Adjustable additional shelves for refrigerants and
freezers are designed to fit individual cabinets (Provide options for the respondent either 2 or 3 or
4; should be selected).
Que.4 – Which color door would you choose?
Response: - Grey color door with shades (Analyze the choice of color and link it with question 1).
Que.5 – How old are you?
Response: - I am 25 years old (Analyze the ages given and provide the average age)

Que.6 – What is your gender?
Response: I am male/female/others, specified. (45% of respondent were female, 55% male and
others none)
Que.7 – Which warranty would you take?
Ans: - Compressor and fan warranty.
Question 8 – Would you prefer third party servicing of your fridge?
Response: - Yes/No. (65% say yes; however among the 65 %; 55% would prefer company servicing
if quality of maintenance is guaranteed by the manufacturing company)

Response: same size as me vertically (retrieve the heights of customers)
Que.10 – Here are 4 design concepts, a mock up per se. Kindly pick the most preferred design.

Technical description –
(1) Weight; just sufficient to be carried by 2 adults comfortably for a distance of 50m with no
rest

(3) Low cost of production by implementing material recycling policy at least 30% of the
components
(4)Life expectancy: should be up to 15 years at minimum
Task:-3
 Under Counter models are available in many sizes varying 24 inch wide to 119 wide.
In this case, size is among the critical design factors as the bigger the fridge the
greater is the cost of production (Appliances & Refrigerators, 2018).
 This kind is made of two major refrigerating components, that is, freeze and the fresh
cold portion also known as fridge. The two compartments ensure that refrigerating
performance is optimized by availing them at a single unit.
 UCR units would be designed in a standard height 33 inches supported on either
castor or legs.
 However, to cater for the customer requirement on adjustable cabinet, the layout to
place it will determined in advance such that we accommodate both compressor
intake and exhaust. Notably, exhaust fumes will have to be minimized as there is
currently a standard on energy labeling requiring manufacturer’s to comply with the
latest sustainable policy regulation on renewable energy.

 Undercounted refrigerators come with either door or drawer design feature. Drawers
section has less overall storage space compared to section with door.
 Glass doors give us benefit of able to see what’s inside without opening the door.
 R600A hydrocarbon refrigerant is used which has low GWP and Zero ozone depletion.
 Door integrated heating Elements are installed which eliminates any condensation.
 Electronic thermostat which is digitally controlled temp system that maintains
optimum temp. With easily viewed LED display is installed.
 Four casters Front locking makes UCR easy to maneuver and clean underneath.
 Durable stainless steel Exterior
 CFC & HCFC Free polar ethane insulation is used.

Task 4: Comparison of product design specification and house of quality with customer
requirements
 UCR Drawers are most appropriate for both indoor and outdoor refrigerating conditions
hence being functionally versatile.
 They do not simply provide extra storage they also help organize the way you use your
kitchen in other words they neatly integrate the interior of your kitchen with a harmonious
and salient feature as they are also less conspicuous given the choice of color; however a
range of colors can always be provided depending on individual needs.
 They perfectly complement the existing kitchen turning them into local points for new
kitchen. They give you all the cold storage& style.
 Adjustable shelves.
 Home grade plug & cord.
 Leveling feet as per the house quality.
 Corrosion resistance power coated interior and exterior.

Lastly, from the PDS and the house of quality, we can authoritatively state that most of the
customer requirements were adequately accommodated. However, during translation from
customer to technical requirements language, a few elements could have been left or merged into
one feature. Notably, this is the best product to be availed given the needs of the customers as
captured in the survey. For example, customer needed a more efficient, affordable and versatile
product; the product design engineers responded with a product that provides a balanced
performance in almost all facets as shown in table 1.
Secondly, the said product can be made flexible in the requirements like color by having a range of
colors so that we meet different tastes of customers. Main colors to consider include: Black, grey,
blue and white. The shelves are to be made three but an extra adjustable one can be integrated.
Lastly, the manufacturer will have to underscore the importance of abiding by the various quality
standards (Manufacturers, 2018). For instance, currently, fridge manufacturers in UAE are required
to comply with the standards such as UAE 5010-2:2012 which stipulates that the appliances must
bear energy efficiency labels (UAE Energy, 2018).
