Description of the Photograph
The phot on the left depicts the child living in her native home with both parents. The
photo shows the child in a rather natural home setting with home clothing. On the right side,
however, the child is taken to the residential school system whereby the clothing is different and
thereby they appear more vibrant and attentive.
What does the photograph tell us about your learning and inspirations from the reading?
The photograph shows the understanding of the way culture adapts new governments and
cultures and assimilates them with their overall way of life. Indigenous people in Canada were
adapted by the Indians, hence showing the child in different attire from those Indians used to
wear.
Why this is important to your learning?
The photograph is important such that it shows me the transformation the child has gone
through in their life. I see that the child had to live a different life in school as opposed to the one
she was living in while at home. These differences help me to appreciate life even more.
Why do you want to share this particular photograph?
The photograph is important to me and I share it because it shows the various challenges
and issues people face while interacting on different cultural values. I understand that people
have to learn more about life, language, culture and other aspects of the new environment, which
may be difficult and also crucial for proper life outcomes.
How does this relate to your life, the lives of people in your community, or both?

Coming from an indigenous family, the picture represents some of the challenges I have
endured and overcome along with my family. Trying to adapt to a new setup is difficult, and this
is why I relate with it.
