1ENGLISH ASSIGNMENTS
1. Lysistrata
Lysistrata consists of two main choruses, one is he chorus of old men and the other is the
chorus of old woman. Lysistrata is the central character who plans to save and unite Greece. She
is furious and plans to meet the women of Athens and Sparta to discuss the matters of war.
According to her, women should not see each other with male desires but also should exploit
their stereotypical female identity as a source of power. She believed that women should look to
see how difficult it is for a man to resist a woman. She is a character who rejects her own
sexuality while establishing peace.
2. Thinking as a Hobby
According to Golding, almost ninety percent of the population represents the biggest
category known as grade-three thinks. He believes that these people are calm and docile and they
always follow orders and listen to other’s wishes. These people never learn to think for their own
good and they do not possess the mental capacity to differentiate between truths from lies. They
behave as if they are under the control of a dictator and they are doing as they are told. Grade-
two thinkers are less likely to be influenced by the dictator and they see the corruption in the
world. They see what is wrong but fail to find the ideals to believe in. Finally, the last category
where Golding places himself, who believes that intelligence, prevents people from following the
dictators and they live life according to their own law (Puksand).
3. Persepolis

been to Iran but with an idea of her own identity and culture, she is free from the obtrusive
perceptions of the world. It does not only act to clear misconceptions surrounding the identity but
also the mistaken belief condemning the concept of religion because of minority’s extremism.
Satrapi does not only explore her own identity but also gives a view of the Iranian people who
are untainted by the media or the politics. It is a story, which educates the Western audiences to
the culture and the real lifestyle of the Iranian people.
4. Between the World and Me
Coates was interviewed for a popular news show and was asked what it would be like if he
loses his body. He writes about America’s defecation about democracy and how well the country
never betrayed its promise to its people. Coates explores his different stages of life and he, the
time when he had to learn about school and resents than his time of the streets because according
to him the rules were vague and purposeless. To him schools were actually not a place not
learning and discovery but as a source of escape from death and prison.
5. Allegory of the Cave
Plato introduces a philosophy that transcends the exclusivity of the active lives. According to
him, the ultimate truth is called alethia, which means that it cannot be noticed. By the means of
allegory, he makes the strong point of view that all philosophers must seek absolute truth for
themselves instead of depending on rather tradional methods of contemplation and the persuasive
tone of using rhetoric. He contrasts the sun to the fact of ultimate truth. To him, the cave
represents darkness and the loss of knowledge, whereas the sun provides the light which
illuminates the fact.

6. Fences
In the drama, Rose is Troy’s devoted and loving wife and the mother of Cory and the
stepmother of Lyons. She is a kind and patient woman who loves her family. According to her,
the fence is a symbol of keeping those she loves safe and close to her. When she finds out that
Troy has fathered the child Raynell with another woman, she end her wifely commitments to
Troy but still raises Raynell as her own because she does not believe in punishing the child for
the sins of her father. She also defends Troy to Cory when he refuses to go to his father’s funeral
even though Troy has not been a faithful husband.
7. This is America
The video shows the modern visualization of America with some controversial aspects
attached to it. The video represents how the world views the black American society. When
Glover contorts his body into a goofy squiggle and shoots at the back of the head of a man. This
is a resemblance to the canonical caricature of Jim Crow. The video suggests black popular
entertainment can simultaneously work as minstrelsy and an appearing racist system. Though it
is a parody but the video represents the facts of the black American society in a hauntingly
truthful manner when Glover is being chased by a white mob. Thought eh video is termed
controversial, this is not the first video that depicts the black culture in America in a
controversial manner, and it certainly will not be the last (Kornhaber).
